if they are keeping the chief then its time to get players who play his style. By By Mitch, (10.5) that could get chicryn on the D for 7 -7.5 then Bradon tanve for the 3-4 line at 4 (there used up Mitch's money and got better) Move on from "Mo" mo useless than ever now. that 7.5 could land a solid Dman not the flake they ahve now.
Sign JT, and start bringing in 3-4 liners that can play the game hard we don't have that right now.

They removed Babcock because he was a cockbab for a guy that would let them play their play in Keefe. They removed Keefe because he couldn't get it done and was frustrated. They bring in Berube and now he sucks and they need to replace him. Strange. |

What coach do you think can make this group real Cup contender? |

This team really needs to be blown up. Bye JT unless you're taking less than $5M, bye Marner no matter what. Next year sucks, but then we bring in McDavid. Only hope. |

Today they suck bumholes but I remember 2 weeks ago when they were coming off a 7-1 record in February, were battling Vegas for 3rd best record in the NHL and only needed a big RHD and 3C to be ready for the playoff fight.
Yawn ... |

Joel Quenneville.
Berube is a very average coach who won his only Cup with a specific set of tools that he does not have here.
Quenneville won 3 Cups with teams that, while not identical, were still offensive minded teams, much more similar to this current set of players.
It's easier to give this team a different coach than it is to swap out all the players. |

That's an insane hope.
You can let go of JT, fine. He's about to be on the wrong side of 35. But you can't just let your leading point producer go and pray McDavid signs in Toronto two years from now. Then hope they can win a Cup in a 2 year window before Matthews and Nylander are both UFAs with dinosaurs on the blueline and no legit goaltending. |

Kind of saw this coming early in the season.
It's become less of a worry and more of a certainty that without the #1 SV%, this team won't win jack poop. |

Quenneville could get more out this group probably, but make them legit contender?
He won 3 Cups, but we all remember what a great group he had in Chicago. |

This team is not quite where Chicago was in terms of depth but at the high end, this team has just as much if not more fire power.
2009/2010, Kane led the team with 30 goals and 88 points. Toews was basically a 20-30 goal, 60 point player. We got 3-4 guys who can hit 40-60 goals and 90-100 points each and two of them are Selke candidates every year.
If a coach could just get the PP to be a top 5 PP (which should be automatic), that alone might be enough to get them deeper in the playoffs.
Chicago once won a Cup with Huet and Niemi in net. I mean, come on... |

Leave skills alone, can't win on skills only in playoffs. There is more intangibles required to play successfully the second half of the season and in playoffs, when teams starting to warm up before the playoffs. The math in regular season does not translating into playoffs.
Good playoff teams are mix of multiple things, skills included. |

Strategy and coaching systems matter. If you give the correct coach the correct weapons, you get better outcomes.
There is no doubt that intangibles matter but if the correct pieces are in the wrong location, you lose the war even with all the intangibles. |

Agreed. Although their 5v5 was pretty elite (top 5/6) through to xmas. They had a great stretch when 34 was out and JT and MM took over.
My biggest concerns are 34 and 44 finding their "A" games ...or something close to it. If Rielly's going to be their 5 best dman most nights and Matthews is going to play like a good second line centre then we're (frank)ed no matter what. |
