Great one... in fact soooo good that it's the first one to be submitted twice; I offered it after my Billy Joel marathon was
- ForeverFlyer16[at least temporarily] put to a halt -- I may, at a later date, submit some more Joel classics -- That Stewart song is a fun song... that always brings a wide grin to my face when I hear it.

Can't resist!

I've Loved These Days
Billy Joel

Now we take our time, so nonchalant,
And spend our nights so bon vivant.
We dress our days in silken robes,
The money comes, the money goes,
We know it's all a passing phase.

We light our lamps for atmosphere,
And hang our hopes on chandeliers.
We're going wrong, we're gaining weight,
We're sleeping long and far too late.
And so it's time to change our ways...
But I've loved these days.

Now as we indulge in things refined,
We hide our hearts from harder times.
A string of pearls, a foreign car,
Oh, we can only go so far
On caviar and Cabernet.

We drown our doubts in dry champagne,
And soothe our souls with fine cocaine.
I don't know why I even care,
We get so high and get nowhere.
We'll have to change our jaded ways...
But I've loved these days.

So before we end, and then begin,
We'll drink a toast to how it's been-
A few more hours to be complete,
A few more nights on satin sheets,
A few more times that I can say...
I've loved these days.

Ahhhh... a sweet one that was shelved for so many years on his tours, and dusted off for the millenium... Speaks well for this thread, does it not?

Taylor James – Fire And Rain

Just yesterday morning they let me know you were gone
Susanne the plans they made put an end to you
I walked out this morning and I wrote down this song
I just can't remember who to send it to
I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you again
Won't you look down upon me, Jesus
You've got to help me make a stand
You've just got to see me through another day
My body's aching and my time is at hand
And I won't make it any other way
Oh, I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you again

Been walking my mind to an easy time my back turned towards the sun
Lord knows when the cold wind blows it'll turn your head around
Well, there's hours of time on the telephone line to talk about things
To come
Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground
Oh, I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you, baby, one more time again, now
Thought I'd see you one more time again
There's just a few things coming my way this time around, now
Thought I'd see you, thought I'd see you fire and rain, now

I will forever think of 9/11/01 when I hear that song because of the lines that I hilited above... As I will when I hear Billy's *Miami 2017 [I've seen the lights go out on Broadway]*, with the "I saw the mighty skyline fall" line.

Good song.

David Wilcox - "That Hypnotizin' Boogie"

Back in the year nineteen and five
We had to have a rhythm very much alive
We didn't have thing
Still we'd sing
We had to walk for the king til' the bell would ring
Hypnotizin' boogie
It's that hypnotizin' boogie
It's that hypnotizin' boogie
Sure feels good
I can't dance but I wish I could

Now Queen Victoria gave a costume ball
Bow to your lady turn your back to the wall
One guy jumped up in a ratty zoot suit
Ripped off his mask he wanted to see if the sucker flew
Hypnotizin' boogie
It's that hypnotizin' boogie
It's that hypnotizin' boogie
Sure feels good
I can't dance but I wish I could

Back in the Coliseum man oh Rome
Caesar and Cleopatra make themselves at home
Julie said to Cleo, let's take a little walk
Cleo said to Julius shut up and don't talk

Hypnotizin' boogie
It's that hypnotizin' boogie
It's that hypnotizin' boogie
It's that hypnotizin' boogie
Gimme such a thrill
I wanna dance I wish I could

Hey inside outside every all around
We got to hava hava the hypnotizin' boogie type of sound
If you ain't heard it
You wish to know
I'll give you a little taste just before I go

Hypnotizin' boogie
Hoo hypnotizin' boogie
It's that hypnotizin' boogie
Gimme such a thrill
I wanna dance I think I will
I wanna dance I think I will
I wanna dance I think I will

Gimme a ticket for an aeroplane,
Ain't got time to take a fast train.
Lonely days are gone, I'm a-goin' home,
'Cause my baby just a-wrote me a letter.

I don't care how much money I gotta spend,
Got to get back to my baby again
Lonely days are gone, I'm a-goin' home,
'Cause my baby just a-wrote me a letter.

Well, she wrote me a letter
Said she couldn't live without me no mo'.
Listen mister can't you see I got to get back
To my baby once a-mo'--anyway...

Gimme a ticket for an aeroplane,
Ain't got time to take a fast train.
Lonely days are gone, I'm a-goin' home,
'Cause my baby just a-wrote me a letter.

Well, she wrote me a letter
Said she couldn't live without me no mo'.
Listen mister can't you see I got to get back
To my baby once a-mo'--anyway...

Gimme a ticket for an aeroplane,
Ain't got time to take a fast train.
Lonely days are gone, I'm a-goin' home,
'Cause my baby just a-wrote me a letter.
Because my baby just a-wrote me a letter.

One of my favorite Canadian performers:

People's Parties
Joni Mitchell

All the people at this party
They've got a lot of style
They've got stamps of many countries
They've got passport smiles
Some are friendly
Some are cutting
Some are watching it from the wings
Some are standing in the center
Giving to get something

Photo beauty gets attention
Then her eye paint's running down
She's got a rose in her teeth
And a lampshade crown
One minute she's so happy
Then she's crying on someone's knee
Saying laughing and crying
You know it's the same release

I told you when I met you
I was crazy
Cry for us all, beauty
Cry for Eddie in the corner
Thinking he's nobody
And Jack behind his joker
And stonecold Grace behind her fan
And me in my frightened silence
Thinking I don't understand

I feel like I'm sleeping
Can you wake me
You seem to have a broader sense of unity
I'm just living on nerves and feelings
With a weak and a lazy mind
And coming to peoples parties
Fumbling deaf dumb & blind

I wish I had more sense of humour
Keeping the sadness at bay
Throwing the lightness on these things

Laughing it all away x 4

You walked into the party
Like you were walking onto a yacht
Your hat strategically dipped below one eye
Your scarf it was apricot
You had one eye in the mirror
As you watched yourself gavotte
And all the girls dreamed
That they'd be your partner
They'd be your partner, and....

You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you?

You had me several years ago
When I was still quite naive
Well you said that we made such a pretty pair
And that you would never leave

But you gave away the things you loved
And one of them was me
I had some dreams
They were clouds in my coffee
Clouds in my coffee and....

You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you?

Well I hear you went up to Saratoga
And your horse naturally won
Then you flew your Lear jet up to Nova Scotia
To see the total eclipse of the sun

Well, you're where you should be all of the time
And when you're not you're with
Some underworld spy
Or the wife of a close friend
Wife of a close friend, and....

You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you?

Rumor has it the song was written about James Taylor
- jtswinehart

She states on her website that its not James - although she had married him a month before the song came out and he did fly to Nova Scotia just after it was written - not in a lear jet.
"Was it Mick Jagger? Cat Stevens? Warren Beatty? Kris Kristofferson? It was common knowledge that she had been involved with each of them in the past."
she says it was a little about Beatty - but beyond that .. she's still not saying.

Yea, she's always denied it was about JT, but I'm inclined to say it was about a "composite" man, including JT.

I think you are probably right.

here's some hockey/music trivia with a personal twist

My sister sang backup for Canadian Alanis Morissette in a Canada Day performance in Ottawa. She has a picture of herself with Alanis and her boyfriend - one of Detroit Red Wings most avid fans, Dave Coulier. Alanis is supposed to have written You Oughta Know about Dave, who starred in Full House. He introduced his co-star Candace Cameron to Valeri Bure who was playing AHL in my home town and was a regular customer of my mom's.

YOU OUGHTA KNOW (Alanis Morissette)

I want you to know that I'm happy for you
I wish nothing but the best for you both
An older version of me
Is she perverted like me
Would she go down on you in a theater
Does she speak eloquently?
And would she have your baby
I'm sure she'd make a really excellent mother

'Cause the love
that you gave that we made
wasn't able to make it enough for you to be
open wide, no
And every time you speak her name
Does she know how you
told me you'd hold me
Until you died, 'til you died
But you're still alive

And I'm here to remind you
Of the mess you left when you went away
It's not fair to deny me
Of the cross I bear that you gave to me
You, you, you oughta know

You seem very well, things look peaceful
I'm not quite
as well, I thought you should know
Did you forget about me Mr. Duplicity

I hate to but you in the middle of dinner
It was a slap in the face how
quickly I was replaced
Are you thinking of me when you (frank) her

'Cause the love that you gave that we made
wasn't able to make it enough for you
to be open wide, no
And every time you speak her name
Does she know how you told me you'd hold me
Until you died, 'til you died
But you're still alive

And I'm here to remind you
Of the mess you left when you went away
It's not fair to deny me
Of the cross I bear that you gave to me
You, you, you oughta know

'Cause the joke that you laid in the bed that was me
And I'm not gonna fade
As soon as you close your eyes and you know it
And every time I scratch my nails down someone's back
I hope you feel it...well can you feel it

Oh, Very Young
Cat Stevens
Oh very young
What will you leave us this time
Youre only dancing on this earth for a short while
And though your dreams may toss and turn you now
They will vanish away like your daddys best jeans
Denim Blue fading up to the sky
And though you want him to last forever
You know he never will
(You know he never will )
And the patches make the goodbye harder still

Oh very young
What will you leave us this time
Therell never be a better chance to change your mind
And if you want this world to see a better day
Will you carry the words of love with you
Will you ride the great white bird into heaven
And though you want to last forever
You know you never will
(You know you never will )
And the goodbye makes the journey harder still

Oh very young
What will you leave us this time

Good Old Hockey Game

Hello out there, were on the air
it's hockey night tonight!
The tension grows,
the whistle blows,
and the puck goes down the ice.
The golie jumps,
and and the players bump,
and the fans all go insane.
Someone roars:
"Bobby Scores!"
At the good old hockey game!

(chours)
Oh!
The good old hockey game!
Its the best game you can name!
And the best game you can name,
is the good old hockey game!

Second Period.
Where players dash,
with skates a-flash,
the home team trails behind.
But they grab the puck,
and go bursting up,
and their down across the line.
They storm the crease,
like bumblebees,
and they travel like a burning flame.
We see them slide the puck inside,
its a one one hockey game!

(chours)
Oh!
The good old hockey game!
Its the best game you can name!
And the best game you can name,
is the good old hockey game!

Third Period.
Last game in the play-offs too.
Oh take me where, the hockey players,
face off down the rink,
And the Stanley Cup,
is all filled up,
for the champs who win the drink!
Now the final flick,
of a hockey stick,
and a one gigantic scream:
"THE PUCK IS IN! THE HOME TEAM WINS!"
At the good ol hockey game

(chorus repeat 3 times)
OH!
The good old hockey game!
Its the best game you can name!
And the best game you can name,
is the good old hockey game!

Owner Of A Lonely Heart - Yes

Move yourself
You always live your life
Never thinking of the future
Prove yourself
You are the move you make
Take your chances win or loser

See yourself
You are the steps you take
You and you - and thats the only way

Shake - shake yourself
Youre every move you make
So the story goes

Owner of a lonely heart
Owner of a lonely heart
Much better than - a
Owner of a broken heart
Owner of a lonely heart

Say - you dont want to chance it
Youve been hurt so before

Watch it now
The eagle in the sky
How he dancin one and only
You - lose yourself
No not for pitys sake
Theres no real reason to be lonely
Be yourself
Give your free will a chance
Youve got to want to succeed

Owner of a lonely heart
Owner of a lonely heart
Much better than - a
Owner of a broken heart
Owner of a lonely heart

Owner of a lonely heart

After my own decision
They confused me so - owner of a lonely heart
My love said never question your will at all
In the end youve got to go
Look before you leap - owner of a lonely heart
And dont you hesitate at all - no no

Owner of a lonely heart
Owner of a lonely heart
Much better than - a
Owner of a broken heart
Owner of a lonely heart
(repeat)

Owner of a lonely heart

Sooner or later each conclusion
Will decide the lonely heart - owner of a lonely heart
It will excite it will delight
It will give a better start - owner of a lonely heart

Dont deceive your free will at all
Dont deceive your free will at all - owner of a lonely heart
Dont deceive your free will at all
Just receive it

Tessie

by Dropkick Murphys

Tessie is the Royal Rooters' rally cry
Tessie is the tune they always sung
Tessie echoed April through October nights
After serenading Stahl, Dinneen, and Young

Tessie is a maiden with a sparkling eye
Tessie is a maiden with a love
She doesn't know the meaning of her sight
She's got a comment full of love

And sometimes when the game is on the line
Tessie always carried them away
Up the road from third base to Huntington
The boys would always sing and sway

(chorus)
2... 3... 4..
Tessie, Nuff said McGreevey shouted
We're not here to mess around
Boston you know we love you madly
Hear the crowd roar to your sound
Don't blame us if we ever doubt you
You know we couldn't live without you
Tessie, you are the only only only

The Rooters showed up at the grounds one day
They found their seats had all been sold
McGreevey led the charge into the park
Stormed the gates and put the game on hold

The Rooters gave the other team a dreadful fright
Boston's tenth man could not be wrong
Up from third base to Huntington
They'd sing another victory song

(chorus)

The Matches - Shoot Me In the Smile

Come, come skinny
Come, come
Come bring a trend
And come nearly naked
Come hungry
Come shaking
Come faking
A perfect grin
Now that's a face
A face fit for breeding
Keep waste fit
No feeding
The Lens won't
Always be watching

So shoot me, shoot me
Shoot me in the smile
I'm going out of style
ohhh shoot me, shoot me
Shoot me in the smile
I'm going out of style

Come, come,
fit in
come, come,
Now I fit in
Yeah, I fit in the right size
Standard like white guys
And French fries
I bat these eyes
I bat them black
nose bleeds like a hangnail
desperate like a bake sale
going stale, I am going stale

So shoot me, shoot me
Shoot me in the smile
I'm going out of style
ohhh shoot me, shoot me
Shoot me in the smile
While I'm still in style

What can you compromise besides everything?
for fleeting form worth remembering
So skinny
So pretty
So hard to be
Just shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot me

So shoot me, shoot me
Shoot me in the smile
Oh shoot me, shoot me
Shoot me in the smile
Oh shoot me, shoot me
Shoot me in the smile
I'm going out of style
(come come skinny come)
I'm going out of style
(come come skinny come come come skinny)

shoot me, shoot me
Shoot me in the smile
(shoot shoot me while im still)
I'm going out of style

Work with me baby
just gimme a smile smile

Come, come skinny
Come, come
Come skinny
Come, come
Skinny
Come

A real classic

John Barleycorn
Traffic

(lyrics by traditional author unknown)
There were three men came out of the West,
Their fortunes for to try,
And these three men made a solemn vow:
John Barleycorn must die.

They’ve ploughed, they’ve sewn, they’ve harrowed him in,
Threw clods upon his head,
And these three men made a solemn vow:
John Barleycorn was dead.

They’ve let him lie for a very long time,
‘Till the rains from heaven did fall,
And little Sir John sprung up his head,
And so amazed them all.

They’ve let him stand ‘till midsummer’s day,
‘Till he looked both pale and wan,
And little Sir John’s grown a long, long beard,
And so become a man.

They’ve hired men with the scythes so sharp,
To cut him off at the knee,
They’ve rolled him and tied him by the way,
Serving him most barbarously.

They’ve hired men with the sharp pitchforks,
Who wienered him to the heart,
And the loader he has served him worse than that,
For he’s bound him to the cart

They’ve wheeled him around and around the field,
‘Till they came unto a barn,
And there they made a solemn oath,
On poor John Barleycorn.

They’ve hired men with the crab-tree sticks,
To cut him skin from bone,
And the miller he has served him worse than that,
For he’s ground him between two stones.

And little Sir John and the nut-brown bowl,
And he’s brandy in the glass;
And little Sir John and the nut-brown bowl,
Proved the strongest man at last.

The huntsman, he can’t hunt the fox,
Nor so loudly to blow his horn,
And the tinker he can’t mend kettle nor pot,
Without a little Barleycorn

The Bravery - "Honest Mistake"

People
They don't mean a thing to you
They move right through you
Just like your breath
But sometimes
I still think of you
And I just wanted to
Just wanted you to know
My old friend...
I swear I never meant for this
I never meant...

Don't look at me that way
It was an honest mistake
Don't look at me that way
It was an honest mistake
An honest mistake

Sometimes
I forget I'm still awake
I f**k up and say these things out loud
My old friend...
I swear I never meant for this
I never meant...

Don't look at me that way
It was an honest mistake
Don't look at me that way
It was an honest mistake
An honest....

Don't look at me that way
It was an honest mistake
Don't look at me that way
It was an honest mistake
An honest mistake
