That was in the movie Smoke with Harvey Keitel. Maybe it was Blue in the Face but it was one of them.

I don't know. It's originally from the movie Big Time by Tom himself. I think I've seen it a good 40 times.

IMO, that is one of like 3 songs that are decent by Morphine. I like the 2 string bass with a slide.

I'm not really a Satch fan. Vai neither (although I like him with Zappa and I like flex-able). They're just missing something I find. It's like they lack a pulse in their playing. I find Eric Johnson is that way too. It's all a matter of opinion but I don't understand what people hear in their tunes.

I liked the old Vai b/c he was strange which came out in his playing. Now he's d-bag. He's lucky Zappa found him otherwise he'd be nowhere near what he is now. You're right though, most of them are fairly boring. They're not exploring anything new anymore.

I am still amazed by how good some of these guys are technically. It's amazing but it'll only take you so far. No wonder guys like Malmsteen are what they are. My problem is that I've pretty much played classical since I was 12 so that's always been my exposure. Makes me feel like I'm missing out on some secret players somewhere that aren't 8-finger tapping, sweep picking carbon copies. As has been said before, thank god for players PG. He's the best hands down as far as I've seen. And screw youtube. Whenever I search for guitar stuff I get players like Cooley !

Yeah Vai was cool at the start with Flex-Able, I definitely agree. Malmsteen has some stuff that I find catchy but he is definitely a one trick pony. Becker was awesome though and I think he would've kept growing. I've got a rock soloing background and I started learning classical stuff later but I'm better at playing lead violin parts than I am finger picking.

The thing about PG is he is constantly growing. His phrasing just keeps getting better and better and even though he is definitely more a rock guy than anything, he is probably more competent with the guitar than anyone. He has taste. Randy Rhoads is up there too in my books and of course there's this guy:

I like lots of guitarists though...
