First and foremost, thanks, Tessie for the update and your time and effort in compiling the list... a major task, to say the least.

That said -- and being the ungrateful fool that I am -- where are all the Billy Joel songs that I was trashed and abused for posting?... I see only one Joel song, one that was posted well after my initial Joel assault on the thread.

The Tragically Hip - 38 Years Old

Twelve men broke loose in '73
From Millhaven maximum security
Twelve pictures lined up across the front page
Seems the Mounties had a summertime war to wage
The chief told the people they had nothing to fear
Said, the last thing they wanna do is hang around here
They mostly came from towns with long French names
But one of the dozen was a hometown shame

Same pattern on the table, same clock on the wall
Been one seat empty eighteen years in all
Freezing slow time, away from the world
He's 38 year's old, never kissed a girl
He's 38 year's old, never kissed a girl

We were sitting round the table, heard the telephone ring
Father said he'd tell 'em if he saw anything
Heard the tap on my window in the middle of the night
Held back the curtains for my older brother Mike

See my sister got raped, so a man got killed
Local boy went to prison, man's buried on the hill
Folks went back to normal when they closed the case
But they still stare at their shoes when they pass our place

My mother cried, the horror has finally ceased
He whispered, yeah for the time being at least
Over her shoulder, on the squad car megaphone
Said, let's go, Michael, son, we're taking you home

Same pattern on the table, same clock on the wall
Been one seat empty eighteen years in all
Freezing slow time, away from the world
He's 38 year's old, never kissed a girl
He's 38 year's old, never kissed a girl
He's 38 year's old, never kissed a girl

They are probably one of the best live bands of all time. It's just a shame that they have to play their newer stuff. I personally don't like much if any of their stuff after Day for Night. Their first four albums are some of the best albums ever released in my opinion though.

The song is from '89 so that could explain the sound. These days they sound like just about any other band out there which actually sucks.

Crosstown Traffic

You jump in front of my car when you,
You know all the time that
Ninety miles an hour, girl, is the speed I drive
You tell me its alright, you don't mind a little pain
You say you just want me to take you for a ride

You're just like crosstown traffic
So hard to get through to you
Crosstown traffic
I don't need to run over you
Crosstown traffic
All you do is slow me down
And I'm tryin' to get on the other side of town

I'm not the only soul who's accused of hit and run
Tire tracks all across your back
I can see you had your fun
But darlin' cant you see my signals turn from green to red
And with you I can see a traffic jam straight up ahead

You're just like crosstown traffic
So hard to get through to you
Crosstown traffic
I don't need to run over you
Crosstown traffic
All you do is slow me down
And I got better things on the other side of town

i dont really agree with that.... suer the hip sounds a little different, but bands change and produce new sounds.... i thought world container was pretty good actually.... a lot better than the formula, nickelback style rock thats out there today, terrible bands like hinder, daughtry and nickelback is an embarrassment to canada i just like how the hip didnt change to suit that sound.. then i would have been pissed haha

Tears For Fears: Mad World

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places
Worn out faces

Bright and early for the daily races
Going nowhere
Going nowhere

Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression
No expression

Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tomorrow
No tomorrow

And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I’m dying
Are the best I’ve ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It’s a very very
Mad world
Mad world

Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy birthday
Happy birthday

and to feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen
Sit and listen

Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me
No one knew me

Hello teacher tell me what’s my lesson
Look right through me
Look right through me

And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I’m dying
Are the best I’ve ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It’s a very very
Mad world
Mad world
enlarging your world
Mad world

No way!!!!!!!!! It's not bad, but the original is MUCH better. You don't feel like slitting your wrists after listening to the Tears for Fears version. Donnie Darko was a great movie though!

The Decemberists - "The Perfect Crime #2"

Sing news with passion of the pistol
Sing bews of the warning by the whistle
A night so dark in the waning
A dawn obscured by slate sky raining, oh oh

Five and twenty burglars by the reservoir
A teenage lookout on the signal tower
The mogul's daughter in hog ties
The mogul fingers the wrong guy, all right

It was a perfect, the perfect, the perfect, the perfect crime
It was a perfect, the perfect, the perfect, the perfect crime

The bagman's quaking in the fingers
The hand-off glance a little lingers
A well-dressed man in the crosshairs
A shot rings out from somewhere upstairs

It was a perfect, the perfect, the perfect, the perfect, the perfect, the perfect crime
It was a perfect, the perfect, the perfect, the perfect, the perfect, the perfect crime

It was the perfect crime

It was like a ticker-tape parade
When the last of the safe was blown away
And we all gaze from eye to eye
As we mouth our silent goodbyes

The valley's sleeping like a bastard
It stinks of slumber and disaster
Two words are spoke on the tap wire
The agent's pull finds a surefire backfire

It was a perfect, the perfect, the perfect, the perfect, the perfect, the perfect crime
It was a perfect, the perfect, the perfect, the perfect, the perfect, the perfect crime

Title : The Way It Is

Standing in line marking time
Waiting for the welfare dime
'Cause they can't buy a job
A man in a silk suit hurries by
As he catches the poor old lady's eyes
Just for fun he says, "Get a job"

That's just the way it is
Some things will never change
That's just the way it is
Ah, but don't you believe them

They say, "Hey little boy you can't go
Where the others go
'Cause you don't look like they do"
Said, "Hey old man
How can you stand to think that way
Did you really think about it
Before you made the rules"
He said, son

That's just the way it is
Some things will never change
That's just the way it is
Ah, but don't you believe them

Well they passed a law in '64
To give those who ain't got a little more
But it only goes so far
Because the law don't change in another's mind
When all it sees AT the hiring time
Is the line on the color bar

That's just the way it is
Some things will never change
That's just the way it is
That's just the way it is, it is, it is, it is

That was a few moths before he released 'Are You Experienced?'

He was booed off the stage during that tour.

- Bud

That's exactly right. I think it was in Toronto that he was booed off the stage. In Buffalo, we were just stunned.
