Lyrics to What's On My Mind : KANSAS
(Kerry Livgren)

Well you told me that I was just not the one,
And you left me standing out in the cold
It's been a long time and I'm so much better now
That I'm looking back and seeing it all
And for the first time there's no pain in my life
Though it's a long hard road that I've gone
We had a good thing and it made me a man cause I know

(Chorus)
You got me goin', pardon me my feelings are showing
I'm only saying what's on my mind

Well I found you or maybe I found myself
And I think we knew it all of the time
We fit together just like a lock and a key
And we opened up each other's minds
Yeah, I was laughing 'caus there was no room to cry
There was too much growing to do
We had a good time and it ain't over yet 'cause I know

(Chorus)

You came from nowhere and you just jumped in my life,
And I know it never will be the same
You made me love you and now I'm home once again
No, I never want to leave you no more
'Caus I'm attached to the better half of myself
And there's nowhere else that I'd rather be
You filled an empty, you fixed a bad broken heart, and I know

(Chorus)

Hockey Sweater - Dala

Don't make me smile
I know that your leaving
And life isn't here
Underneath the Christmas lights

But I'll be wearing
Your hockey sweater
And you'll be waiting
Somewhere, where it never snows

Don't say a word
My heart is breaking
And I lonely stare
Watching you drive away

And I'll be wearing
Your hockey sweater
And you'll be waiting
Somewhere, where it never snows

Four corners to my bed
Four angels 'round my head
Four corners to my bed
Four angels 'round my head

One to watch and two to play
One to keep my cares away

And I'll be wearing
Your hockey sweater
And you'll be waiting
Somewhere, somewhere

And I'll be wearing
Your hockey sweater
And you'll be waiting
Somewhere, where it never snows

Four corners to my bed
Four angels 'round my head

Atreyu - We Stand Up

I've watched the sun go dancing fall
i've watched the night reign
please note that casual observers are always
the first to go, so this is for me and the boys
we'll always play our part, to kick and scream
to be the ones you hate to love
I can never turn my back because this is all I know
you know all that is the truth, we are all that we have
in a world that corrupts the strongest soul
you know all that is the truth

Chorus:
if you blink don't do it twice, i've still got something to say here
I will bear my heart to expose my soul
if honesty has a price, then I won't (frank)ing pay, dear
we will take our dreams straight to the grave

so choke on this and on my words,
and on us, and on my honesty
it's of no consequence, because i've seen the opulence
the beauty i've held in my eyes,
if only for seconds
words will never take her away
what we have built together,
with our hands, with our hearts, with our minds

Chorus

(solo)

if this is just in our heads then
we'll keep on living the perfect lie
one day at a time god bless our
cheating hearts and damn your lies

if this is just in our heads then
we'll keep on living the perfect lie
one day at a time god bless us

Chorus

Beck - "Gamma Ray"

Trying to hold
Hold out for now
With these ice caps
Melting down
With the transistor sound
And my Chevrolet terraplane
Going round, round, round

Come a little gamma ray
Standing in a hurricane
Your brains are bored
Like a refugee
From the houses burning
And the heat wave's
Calling your name

She's got
On a cactus crown
With a dot, dot, dot
On her brow
And she speaks
Inside crowd
With the cavalry
Turning around

Hit me
Like a gamma ray
Standing in a hurricane
And I'm pulling
Out thorns
Smokestack lightning
Out my window
I want to know
What I've lost today

Come a little gamma ray
Standing in a hurricane
When your body's bored
Like a refugee
From the houses burning
And the backbiters
Calling your name

Hey Rosetta - Psalm
But often it happens you know
That the things you don't trust are the ones you need most
So it's cautiously into the dark
But you see before long that your eyes will adjust
And under the night you can hear
The full moon rise like a psalm in the air
And the air goes into your lungs
And around in your heart and on through your blood
It goes cautiously into the dark
And you see before long that we all have a part
And under your skin you can feel
That the fear that you feel is what will set you free

And under the night you can hear
The full moon rise like a psalm in the air
And the air goes into your lungs

I can't find "we made a pact" from the same album - but its beautiful as well

Snot - Snooze Button

Now yes you want the steals protein
I throw you up and fell asleep again
You did not even fight

Well, it's just another song
Talkin' 'bout how you let them take your rights
Another redundant verse ... 'bout how you refused to fight and lost
What cost? Your cost has got no champion
How could you hope to win? By just complaining
Now it's raining on your parade decisions made could cost you dearly
Not just your money but your freedom
Are you wealthy? Improper choises could be deadly
They took your so-called rights
You did not even fight

Well, here's your motherf*ckin' wake up call and there's just no way around it
Caught you asleep once again, and we ain't havin' it
Got freedumb for you to do just what they tell ya'
You missed the train of thought
You did refuse to-be taught a lesson
Now this is what I'm guessing
You'll be held accountable
Things you didn't want to know
You're stressin'
Now with your mind while they keep messin'
They took your so-called rights
You did not even fight

... bla bla bla bla bla (you just can't understand it)... and fell asleep again

While you were busy f*ckin' sleepin'
You know your gouvernment was creepin'
Someone left the door unlocked
you-were asleep your life was bought and sold
Yes, to the highest bidder
Left you in sitcom hell
So conviced you're doing well
You sit back ... synapses are attacked
American Gladiators are the only thing, they're givin' back
Your dying and in your mind while they keep lying
They took your so-called rights you better f*ckin'

(Wake Up) Now yes, you want the steals protein
I throw you up and fell asleep again (Fight)
They took your so-called rights and again, and again you fell asleep again
(Wake Up) Now yes, you want the steals protein
I throw you up and fell asleep again (Fight)
They took your so-called rights you did not even fight

No that's no true way
I said: "yeah, your doing what they say!"
Don't you fell asleep today no way

Watch out
(Awake, awake) No that's no true way
(Awake, awake) I said: "yeah, your doing what they say!"
(Awake, awake) Don't you fall asleep today
No way (awake), no way, they've got to pray
(Awake, awake) No that's no true way
(Awake, awake) I said: "yeah, your doing what they say!"
(Awake, awake) Don't you fall asleep today
(Awake) No way (awake)

Now that I've given you a message
you've got a mess but you can salvage
Continue to grow and you'll know that little things in life can make a difference
You-don't got to be some politician
Take back those given rights you better f*ckin'

(Wake Up) Now yes, you want the steals protein
I throw you up and fell asleep again (Fight)
They took your so-called rights and again, and again you fell asleep again
(Wake Up) Now yes, you want the steals protein
I throw you up and fell asleep again (Fight)
They took your so-called rights you did not even...
... no, no, no ... no, no you did not even ...
Fight
Fight
Fight
They took your so-called rights
You did not even fight

Rush - Bravado

If we burn our wings
Flying too close to the sun
If the moment of glory
Is over before it's begun
If the dream is won
Though everything is lost
We will pay the price
But we will not count the cost

When the dust has cleared
And victory denied
A summit too lofty
River a little too wide
If we keep our pride
Though paradise is lost
We will pay the price
But we will not count the cost

And if the music stops
There's only the sound of the rain
All the hope and glory
All the sacrifice in vain
(And) If love remains
Though everything is lost
We will pay the price
But we will not count the cost

Que Sera Sera - Damien Rice & David Gray
When I was just a little girl/boy,
I asked my mother, "What will I be ?
Will I be pretty/handsome ?
Will I be rich ?"
Here's what she said to me :
"Que Sera, Sera
Whatever will be, will be,
The future's not ours to see,
What will be, will be."

Then I grew up and fell in love,
I asked my sweetheart, 'what lies ahead?
Will we have rainbows, day after day?
Here's what my sweetheart said:
Que sera, sera,
Whatever will be, will be
The future's not ours to see.
Que sera, sera,
What will be, will be

Now I have children of my own
They ask their mother what will I be
Will I be handsome, will I be rich?
I tell them tenderly
"Que Sera, Sera
Whatever will be, will be,
The future's not ours to see,
What will be, will be.
Que Sera, Sera"

Primordial-The Coffin Ships

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsnRDcHdf_A

Young hearts born with grief
Shall pay the penalty of truth
A season of stolen youth
Shall teach old hearts to break

It feels like I've been here before
Here to where the animals lay down to die
So we stood alone on a distant store
Our broken spirits in rags and tatters

Nerve and muscle, heart and brains
Lost to Ireland, lost in vain
Pause and you can almost hear
The sounds echo down through the ages
The creak of the burial cart
Here in humiliation and sorrow
Not mixed with indignation
One is driven to exclaim
Oh god, that bread should be so dear
And human flesh so cheap[*]

Young hearts are born with such grief
We have paid the penalty of truth
A season of our stolen youth
Shall teach our hearts to break

Lyrics: A.A. Nemtheanga
Music: MacUilliam and Primordial

[*Taken from a memorial to the dead at a mass grave in Skibereen, Co. Cork]

["Between the years 1845 and 1849 a famine ravaged Ireland and over 3 million people were lost to a combination of starvation and emigration I said once before the history of my land is a litany of tragedy and blood, these four years represent possibly the greatest tragedy the country has endured. It still hangs over Ireland and set the tone for Irish people to leave Ireland shores to the present day. The coffin ships themselves were what the ships that set sail for America in search of a new and better life were called. It's with this song we honour the memory of this great tragedy and those poor souls who lost their lives."]

Suzanne Vega - Freeze Tag

We go to the playground
In the wintertime
The sun is fading fast
Upon the slides into the past
Upon the swings of indecision
In the wintertime

In the dimming diamonds
Scattering in the park
In the tickling
And the trembling
Of freeze tag
In the dark

We play that we're actors
On a movie screen
I will be Dietrich
And you can be Dean

You stand
With your hand
In your pocket
And lean against the wall
You will be Bogart
And I will be
Bacall

And we can only say yes now
To the sky, to the street, to the night

Slow fade now to black
Play me one more game
Of chivalry
You and me
Do you see
where I've been hiding
In this hide-and-seek?

We go to the playground
In the wintertime
The sun is fading fast
Upon the slides into the past
Upon the swings of indecision
In the wintertime
Wintertime
Wintertime

We can only say yes now
To the sky, to the street, to the night
We can only say yes now
To the sky, to the street, to the night

This thread needs an injection of some 70s prog rock

Hawkwind-Master of the Universe (features a bassist named Lemmy Kilmister)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvEtqGDFPA0

King Crimson-In the Court of the Crimson King (released in '69)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHkisNZH77Y

King Crimson-21st Century Schizoid Man (also on the debut)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndaaGsaaYbI

King Crimson-Starless (from the Red album. KC disbanded again afters its release only to be reformed again by Robert Fripp a few years later.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qc53zXoGHzE

Yes-Roundabout. Too happy sounding at times, but they were really good for a period of about 4-5 albums.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFJlMRnF7jg

Genesis-Firth of Fifth. Before Genesis degenerated into some awful 80s synthpop band.
http://www.youtube.com/wa...tfLIxV7uo&feature=related

Magma-De Futura
French prog\jazz fusion act. You know how some bands release concept albums, well, the entire band is a concept with each album furthering a really cool sci-fi storyline that leads into the next. This might be too atonal for some.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ml7nmYp5AF0

Goblin-Suspiria (Main Theme)
Goblin were an Italian prog act (originally called Cherry Five) who were discovered by horror director Dario Argento. Argento's best films featured scores recorded by this band. Suspiria is my fav horror film, and the atmosphere created, with much help from the music is a big reason why (all those awesome death scenes don't hurt either!)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkOFOWc6PHQ

Banco Del Mutuo Soccoroso-750,000 Anni Fa L'amore
Italian prog act, notable for the really passionate vocals.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RR_iRdCtuk

I'll conclude with a nice little vid from my av.

Brett Dennen - Ain't No Reason
There ain’t no reason things are this way.
Its how they always been and they intend to stay.
I can't explain why we live this way, we do it everyday.
Preachers on the podium speakin’ of saints in seance,
Prophets on the sidewalk beggin’ for change,
Old ladies laughing from the fire escape, cursing my name.
I got a basket full of lemons and they all taste the same,
A window and a pigeon with a broken wing,
You can spend your whole life workin’ for something
Just to have it taken away.
People walk around pushing back their debts,
Wearing pay checks like necklaces and bracelets,
Talking ‘bout nothing, not thinking ‘bout death,
Every little heartbeat, every little breath.
People walk a tight rope on a razors edge
Carrying their hurt and hatred and weapons.
It could be a bomb or a bullet or a pen
Or a thought or a word or a sentence.

There Ain't no reason things are this way.
It's how they always been and they intend to stay
I don’t know why I say the things I say, but I say them anyway.
But love will come set me free
Love will come set me free,I do believe
Love will come set me free, I know it will
Love will come set me free, yes.

Prison walls still standing tall,
Some things never change at all.
Keep on buildin’ prisons, gonna fill them all,
Keep on buildin’ bombs, gonna drop them all.
Working your fingers bear to the bone,
Breaking your back, make you sell your soul.
Like a lung that’s filled with coal, suffocatin’ slow.
The wind blows wild and I may move,
The politicians lie and I am not fooled.
You don't need no reason or a three piece suit to argue the truth.
The air on my skin and the world under my toes,
Slavery stitched into the fabric of my clothes,
Chaos and commotion wherever I go, love I try to follow.

Love will come set me free
Love will come set me free, I do believe
Love will come set me free, I know it will
Love will come set me free, yes.

There ain't no reason things are this way
It’s how they always been and they intend to stay
I can't explain why we live this way, we do it everyday.

City and Colour (Dallas Green from Alexis on Fire) - Comin' Home

Well I've been down to Georgia
I've seen the streets in the West
I've driven down the 90, hell I've seen America's best
I've been through the Rockies, I've seen Saskatoon
I've driven down the highway 1 just hopin' that I'd see you soon

Cause I'm comin' home, I'm comin' home

I've never been to Alaska, but I can tell you this,
I've been to Lincoln, Nebraska and hell you know it ain't worth poop
I've been through Nova Scotia, Sydney to Halifax
I'll never take any pictures cause I know I'll just be right back

Cause I'm comin' home, I'm comin' home

I've seen a palace in London, I've seen a castle in Wales
but I'd rather wake up beside you and breathe that ol' familiar smell
I never thought you could leave me, I figured I was the one
but I understand your sadness so I guess I should just hold my tongue

But I'm comin' home, I'm comin' home

I know that we're takin' chances, you told me life was a risk
but I just have one last question...
will it be my heart or will it be his?

I'm comin' home

The Swell Season - If you want me
The Swell Season is GLEN HANSARD and MARKETA IRGLOVA

Are you really here or am I dreaming
I can't tell dreams from truth
for it's been so long since I have seen you
I can hardly remember your face anymore
When I get really lonely
and the distance causes our silence
I think of you smiling
with pride in your eyes a lover that sighs
If you want me satisfy me, if you want me satisfy me
If you want me satisfy me, if you want me satisfy me
Are you really sure that you'd believe me
when others say I lie
I wonder if you could ever despise me
when you know I really try
to be a better one to satisfy you
For your everything to me
and I'll do what you ask me
if you'll let me be, free
If you want me satisfy me, if you want me satisfy me
If you want me satisfy me, if you want me satisfy me
If you want me satisfy me, if you want me satisfy me

ODDS - WENDY UNDER THE STARS
I was sitting there watching TV
Wendy came and sat on my knee
She put her finger in my ear
But I pulled it out so I could hear
What the newsman on the television said
He said the king of rock' n roll was dead
And in the spooky television light
She said, "Don't ever forget this night"

I made love to Wendy under the stars, the night that Elvis died

As we walked across the dew wet field
I never ever thought she would yield
To my young body's aching desire
For an older woman's well banked fire
By the left hand I was led
To the place that we would make our bed
And embracing in the blue moonlight
She said, "Don't ever forget this night"

I made love to Wendy under the stars, the night that Elvis died

She was 31 I was 17
I found out then what passion could mean
I thought I loved her but I didn't know how
I don't love her when I see her now
With the tape deck turned up loud
She made a young man feel strong and proud
And in the coolness of the morning light
She said, "Don't ever forget this night"

I made love to Wendy under the stars, the night that Elvis died

Sunset Rubdown - "The Taming of the hands That Came Back to Life"

Discover Sunset Rubdown!

Da-da-da…

I am embracing the cold rushing in like ice to a diamond;
it's a new kind of rough you can find me in.
Ha-da-da ha-da-da…

When the sail starts flying in the wind I say, ‘cool that looks cool now do you think the second movement has too many violins’?

Ha-da-da ha-da-da…

Don’t get too close; you reflect the west coast air in my chest and the way I hold it in there.
It’s the taming of the hands that came back to life when she synchronized swam on the ice in ’03.

Oh, but enough about me

Will you live in the physical world?
Will you live in the physical world?

And explosions make debris and catching it kind of suits you well it doesn’t suit me
She said, “My sails are flapping in the wind.” I said, “Can I use that in a song?” She said, “I mean the end begins.” I said, “I know. Can I use that too?”

Will you live will you live in the physical world?
Will you live will you live in the physical world?
With the sun setting low and the shadows unfurl
Can you live with the way they make you look unreal?
Will you live will you live in the physical world?
Will you live will you live in the physical world?
With the sun setting low and the shadows unfurl
Can you live with the way they make you look unreal?
