pretty sure after they touch gloves, the fight is back on.
still bobo as hell, but within the rules i believe.
we'll need the pikemastergeneral to weigh in..
what a fukin d1ck - Crimsoninja
from what i remember, i think it is legal. i believe it's up to the fighters to touch gloves after some unsportsmanlike bs out of respect and not an official stoppage of the fight like, say, a standing 8 count or when the ref is calling time to take a point away from a fighter. that's why sometimes you'll see one fighter reach out to touch gloves and the other refuse. but it seems pretty cheap to start throwing during that time. don't think i've ever seen anyone do that before.
that's how the touching gloves thing was explained to me anyway. it might be more a formal pause in the fight when they do it going into the last round than it is after a headbutt or low blow or whatever (although i think i've seen fighters refuse to touch gloves going into the last round too).
Probably too surprised to think that fast. Like a howler with a banana nearby... - sanfordnson
no offense to ortiz, but if he isn't ready to think fast he shouldn't be in a boxing ring.
also, it does look like he's just surprised and disappointed that mayweather hit him with the first punch. he seems aware of what just happened like his mind is processing the disrespect. but get your (frank)ing gloves up while you process that disrespect.
besides, he had just headbutted mayweather (which by the stories i've read so far was done intentionally). you have to be wary of a cheap shot after you deliver a cheap shot.

I get all that and agree.
Still just seems cheap, within the rules or not. and wtf was with the ref? Just standing there all "derp?".

i know. the ref comes off looking pretty bad. but to be honest, i think it's legal so he actually can't do anything anyway.
in my mind i can't picture a ref calling time out to get the touching gloves thing done like they do when there's loose tape on a glove or whatever. i don't think it's a real time out.
crims is right, we need pikey.
regardless, it's a cheap shot and classless. i'm sure there's some sort of code. you just aren't supposed to do that.

That's a disturbing statement.
Mayweather has never had respect. He won't until Pacquio knocks the chocolate out of him.
