Good for you. What field of study are you taking, if you don't mind sharing with us. - Doppleganger
Business Technologies Management. Its a Business/Comp sci hybrid degree.... but I'm probably going to go back into marketing when I'm done, agency side this time rather than the snoozefest that is client side. |

Good luck, sounds like a good career move.
I have a very good connection who works at Stats Canada, and they tell me that Business Technologies Management graduates are in high demand right across Canada, and there is a good outlook in this field for a LOT of growth in the future.
Maybe you'll find yourself a job opportunity right here in the Nation's Capital!

Thanks. I'm sticking to TO, though. I live downtown and love it. So much to do, and everything is within walking distance- which is important to me. Spent far too much time in the car working at the last place, and now I've got a better idea of what jobs are out there for when I do my job search. |

After 17 games it would appear that the Senator's rebuild is proceeding rather well. If anything Senator fans should be concerned that short term success will lead to a loss of a potential lottery pick.
The Leafs on the other hand are now 7 years into their rebuild and you have to wonder if they really have an overall strategy that will see them actually emerge as a serious competitor at some point.
The Oil are now in the third year of their rebuild and it is clear that they will be a serious team in the very near future.
Overall, I think that it would be wise for the Senators to move Spezza and some other pieces in order to better accelerate their rebuild. If the Leafs do not find a better means of being competitive they should seek a more traditional form of rebuild. The Oilers do not need to do anything other than continue in the direction they are headed. I am at a loss to try and figure out what the game plan is in Calgary. - spatso
Did that rebuild fizzle out? Are the sens going to reboot another 3 year rebuild? |

You could say so now.
First Alfredsson, and then Spezza left the team (since the post you quoted), so pretty much setting back the re-build a few years.
Hopefully Nick Paul, Alex Guptill and others develop into NHLers in a couple of years. |

This is what I said a couple posts later
Now IF they Trade Spezza and Alfy or at least one of them before seasons end I will applaud the rebuild, because they will get a great return and finish lower in the standing this season and next. If they dont, I dont see it as a much better rebuild than Toronto based on the picks.
It seems they took the wrong approach.. and let both assets decline...getting nothing for Alfy and losing him anyways. Spezza return was so-so and 2+ years too late
Seems I was on track in saying the Sens rebuild was not much of a rebuild.

They were never going to trade Alfredsson at the trade deadline, and planned to keep him with the organization. Don't know what he would have brought back at the trade deadline, but not to much for a player of his age who was becoming a UFA............maybe a late second rounder at best???
He was allowed to other teams prior to becoming a UFA and found something he liked and decided to move on his own. There was nothing Ottawa could have done other than to over pay him to keep him and decided to let him go.
They then brought in Ryan, for Jakob Silfverberg, Stefan Noesen and a first-round pick (2014).
Spezza (& Ludwig Ludwig Karlsson) left when he asked for a trade, and the return was Alex Chiasson, Alex Guptill, Nicholas Paul and a 2nd-round pick (2015).
So Ottawa loses Alfredsson, Spezza Jakob Silfverberg, Stefan Noesen, a first-round pick (2014) and Ludwig Karlsson ...............six "assets", and brings in Ryan, Alex Chiasson, Alex Guptill, Nicholas Paul and a 2nd-round pick (2015)...........five "assets".
So at the end of the day, if Alfredsson was traded for (at best) a second rounder, the players in, and the the players out will have been even in numbers, but Ottawa loses a genuine NHL number one center which they miss, and will have a hard time replacing, and the Re-build gets set back a couple of years.

More like no prospects, no budget, and likely a repeat off the Cowen pick.(after the Leafs take the guy you want).... Followed by years of hearing how the Sens tucked the Leafs into taking the better player. - Feeling Glucky? He is playing in our top four and has barely 200 games nhl experinece, youngest team in the league check ,stone and hoff number 3 and 4 in rookie scoring hoffman was tied in rookie goalscoring .I would stiil take the the 6.5 projected top 4 defender over a pipsqueak center with limited offensive upside, everyday of the week

says more about the Sens than Cowen.
Hell, they've got a 1 dimensional winger as their #1 d!
and you know who wouldnt take a 3rd pairing dman like Cowen over a top-6 center?
this guy:
he just didn't have a choice.
side note, since Ottawa is in the business of trading top-10 picks for 2nd line wingers, somebody should tell Murray that Lupul is available |

No, it doesn't get much worse than being the fan of a team that proudly displays their lack of cups on their jersey |

You mean like how the Senators invited Clarkson to Ottawa to wine and dine him, when he was a free agent, knowing they weren't ever going to sign him, but just wanted to jack up the price for the leafs, and made them overpay for a dud???
BTW, Cowan has played only 202 games in the NHL, and heard the colour guy on a Senators game broadcast (last season) that you need to wait for 300 games played to see how a D Man turns out at the NHL level.
So in Cowens case we'll see at the end of next season if he's going to be as projected when he was drafted. His stock has been rising this season, and having a 6 foot plus, 240 lb defence man on your team is not a bad thing. |

Yes it looks bad for the Senators this season. It looks like they will miss the playoffs, in consecutive years, for the first time in 19 years.
How could it get worst than that?
I remember way way back almost 8 years ago when we here in Ottawa were watching the Senators run through the playoffs, beating the Sabres in the Conference Finals and going on to play in the Stanley Cup Finals. That marked the first time a team from Ontario had been to the Stanley Cup Finals for 40 years, and we her in Ottawa had a great time, even though the Senators did not win.
torontotonians can only wish that their soap opera of a team could just get there act together once in their lifetimes so that they could have that experience, as t he leafs have the longest continuous drought of ALL current NHL teams of appearances in the Stanley Cup Finals, which will reach 48 years this spring.

Rask kept Thomas' seat warm in the playoffs.
Why no mention of superstar-in-waiting, Jared Knight? |

wow, you mean to tell me that rask didn't replace the vezina winner during a cup championship run, when he was 23 years old................that guy must suck.
and why would you need to mention jared knight.....pretty sure mentioning a vezina winner, likely hart finalist, and a potential future norris candidate would be enough. |

Could have been a leaf, and so could the future Norris finalist..........what's his name?
There seems to be a LOT of former leaf first round picks (traded or used then traded) floating around the NHL.
2000 used then traded
2001 used then traded
2002 used then traded
2003 traded
2004 traded
2005 used then traded
2006 used then traded
2007 traded
2008 used then traded
2009 -
2010 traded
2011 traded one (used two others)
2012 -
2013 -
