Whoever the sens draft will be the greatest prospect ever. Spatso will tell us for the next 3 years - senstroll
No it's Nylander, no one selected this year will be better, according to leaf fans here, he tore up the SHL emerging as the best player in it's history, dominated the WJC and is killing it in the AHL and next year he'll be a sure bet to win the Calder. |

Eichel and everyone knows it. - Shutdown
And then most likely Hanafin. Maybe Edmonton goes for need instead of BPA and takes him second... That'd be pretty sweet. |

the oilers need eichel WAY more than they need hannifin. they have some solid young D prospects, but are weak up front. obviously goalie is the biggest need, but nobody is wasting a top 10 on a goalie this year. |

Ottawa's prospects are at a point that many of them are now playing on the NHL squad.
Step one: draft prospects
Step two: Develop prospects at the AHL level
Step three: Insert prospects into NHL team and continue development
Ottawa is now at step three, the leafs are returning to step one, as they would have us believe.
Take a quick look at the rookie scoring leaders, two of the top four are Senator prospects. |

I can't wait to see the next failed Leafs core. It's always exciting to see the old garbage shipped out for brand new garbage. Bring out the blue box! |

leaf fans just don't get it, when it comes to prospect development.
Erik Condra, Mike Hoffman, Patrick Wiercioch, Zack Smith, Eric Gryba, Jared Cowen, Mark Borowiecki and Robin Lehner all were drafted by the Senators, they all played together on the Calder Cup Winning AHL Binghamton Senators.............and ALL have made their way onto the NHL teams current roster. |

It's kind of difficult to tell what people do and do not understand if you're just basing it on things they say in these online troll-fests. It's hard to say anything good about the rival team. I've tried a few times here to be objective and even complimentary, but the response tends to be prock-like.
If the team starts really performing well, getting back into contendership, it's going to be hard for people to argue against us. Right now they would simply point out that our draft picks made their way onto a non-playoff team. But man, we really do have a lot of solid NHL players drafted by us, playing for us... |

Next week (out west) is going to be quite a test for the younger players on the Senators. This is the same trip the leafs did and were shutout three times I think. |

I wish the senators the best of luck in their efforts to devalue their pick, and fall further away from drafting an impact player. |

According to Bob McKenzie and others, who know way more than most about the upcoming draft, there are two can't miss potential generational picks at the top of the prospect rankings, then they forecast the 3rd through 10th pick as strong picks with very good chances of making the NHL, and after that the quality of the prospects drop off.
I don't see the Senators moving pas three teams in the overall standings, by the end of the season.
They're reported to be heading out west on Monday, for the road trip, without Lehner or Anderson.
I'll admit I don't know enough about the prospects ranked after the top two, so if you or anyone would like to share their insight on any of these players, I and other would welcome it.
BTW, when does the leafs scorched earth re-build begin?
I've heard leaf management say that's what they're planning, but have yet to see anything concrete to lead me to believe that is what is going to actually happen?

Well, they've started trading with Franson and Santorelli for futures. The majority of the work will likely be done in the summer though.
Here's an interesting article on the Senator's situation:

Seems the globe and mail agrees with what I and others have been saying about the impending mediocrity of the Senators.

After 17 games it would appear that the Senator's rebuild is proceeding rather well. If anything Senator fans should be concerned that short term success will lead to a loss of a potential lottery pick.
The Leafs on the other hand are now 7 years into their rebuild and you have to wonder if they really have an overall strategy that will see them actually emerge as a serious competitor at some point.
The Oil are now in the third year of their rebuild and it is clear that they will be a serious team in the very near future.
Overall, I think that it would be wise for the Senators to move Spezza and some other pieces in order to better accelerate their rebuild. If the Leafs do not find a better means of being competitive they should seek a more traditional form of rebuild. The Oilers do not need to do anything other than continue in the direction they are headed. I am at a loss to try and figure out what the game plan is in Calgary. - spatso

I do like this article. It's nice to see someone writing about the issues in Ottawa instead of what a mess the Leafs are.
I've said all along, Melnyk is really, really bad news for Sens fans. You can't win with the NHl's lowest budget. Both on and off the ice.
I'd much rather have the Leafs situation. |

Really? Trading a couple of impending UFA's is proof that the leafs are undertaking a scorched earth, strip to the wood, bow it up total re-build. When they trade away someone like Phaneauf or Kessel, then it will be a clear signal they're talking the talk and walking the walk.
Read that article yesterday, typical article written by a toronto based writer, for a toronto based readership to divert their attention away from the mess that the leafs are. Means nothing in the grand scheme of things.
Next season the Senators payroll is going to jump up over the 60 million mark once they resign all their RFAs.
Funny how a toronto writer bemoans the low payroll in Ottawa, while the team he covers has been spending to the Cap ever since the Cap came in, and there's nothing, absolutely nothing, to show for it............what a hypocrite. |

Where do you come up with this stuff? The Toronto media is doing nothing but laughing and crapping on the Leafs 24/7. You're acting like they are ignoring the Leafs situation and only concentrating on the Sens. This is a very rare example of the Sens even being talked about right now. The article even mentions that in the very first paragraph.
I have no idea where this myth comes from that the Toronto media is biased and doesn't knock the Leafs. Every time I turn on the TV/Radio, all I hear is how much the team sucks and every player sucks and has no value.
iIt's the media in Ottawa that are massive homers. |
