So, you think they're meaningful because "the team tries real hard, but still can't do it".

Last night was their first regulation loss in their last 10 games. They have earned 17 of 20 available points in those games.

That's not bad, when was the last time the leafs managed 17 points in 10 games, and this time of the season?

the Sens "Rookie" is older than Kadri
- senstroll

But Hoffmann can tell what time it is, can Kadri, or is this just another ploy by the leafs to decrease their odds of winning and tanking even more?

It was a yearly phenomenon, when people would claim "the Leafs only win when the pressure is off".

2006 - JS Aubin goes on a tear, Leafs go 9-1-2 for 20 points in 12 games, missing the playoffs. Eerily similar to the Hamburgler or whatever his name is.

2007 - 16 points in 10 games, middle of Feb

2008 - 15 points in 10 games, into the middle of March. 21 points in 14 games going towards the end of March.

2009 - 15 points in 10 games, through to early March.

Such a short memory. Before "the Leafs always collapse", it was always "the Leafs only win games when it no longer matters and the pressure is off".

Hell, last year they went 11-1-2 going into the Olympic break, which was February, and 50 or so games into the season. And followed that up with points in 5 of the first 6 games after the Olympic break, also into March.

So, to answer your question, the last time the Leafs did that.... was last year.

Playing and winning games at this time of the season is much different than going on long win-less streaks that the leafs are doing.
- Doppleganger

of course the sens failed playoff push is different .. yup..they mean more than when the leafs made some late pushes

many examples of this over the past 10 seasons

in 2011 the leafs went on a 8-3-1 run in March 17 of 24 points

Coincidentally, the sens are desperately trying to win, because of their playoff delusions, and won't use karlsson on the PK.

So if trying to win games you mean using certain players with offensive skill-sets on the PP and at even strength...........and other players with defensive skill-sets on the PK and trying to shutdown the opponents top six forwards, then I would agree with that.

I guess it's really hard for you to relate to a team that has every player on the same page, and taking pride in the way they play, by playing to win games.

Clearly there are two "camps" on the leaf roster, as was discussed at length (Sportsnet) after the struggles to get by the Sabres in a SO. One group of mostly veterans who've thrown in the towel months ago and are going through the motions, and the younger group who are playing with some pride.

Didn't we just go over this? "When was the last time the Leafs were playing games like this?" Answer, last year. Why would it be hard to relate?

I'm sure that's exactly how you would have described the Leafs last year (and 06, 07, 08, and 09), too. Playing for pride. Players on the same page.

Was it this intense pride that caused two captains to jump ship? Is that pride?

Spin away my good friend, I would be trying to deflect away from the dismal performance your might maple leafs turned in last night vs the Sabres.

When was the last time a leaf captain retired as a leaf Captain??? They've been run out of toronto for the past five decades if my memory is correct.

You're putting a lot of faith in who ever the leafs select in the fourth or fifth spot in the draft?

http://sports.yahoo.com/b...-your-team-181303868.html

5. toronto maple leafs (58 pts.)

Current Draft Lottery Odds: 9.5 percent

Current Projected Finish: 15th in Eastern Conference (41 percent)

Key NHL Tank Games Remaining: vs. Sabres (3/11); at Sabres (4/1); at Blue Jackets (4/8).

Strong move by the leafs to scratch Nazem Kadri for being late for a team meeting, and thus giving his teammates a clue how to get out of playing in any of these 15 remaining disasters on ice.

Chances The NHL Fixes The Draft For Them: The NHL is already bringing every event imaginable to toronto in the next few years for the 100th anniversary of the first pandering to toronto, so they might as well bring McDavid too.

Yes, I am hoping they finish as low as possible...it goes a long way in starting the rebuild.

thought that was obvious

It's gong to take a lot more than a first round pick or two (see Edmonton) to rebuild the leafs from the ground up, as they claim they are going to do. Do you know if they've improved the scouting staff?

Out of curiousity, has a Sens captain EVER?

I'm not sure what your point is. We haven't had too many captains in the past 10 or 20 years. I know you're on three in the past 2 1/2 seasons or whatever, but that's because they keep jumping ship. We haven't had that problem. It's not spin, it's a fact.

Gilmour retired a Leaf.

Edit: so did Clark, actually.
Edit2: neither were captain when they retired, but both came back to the team to the joy of all the fans. Hard to say under those circumstances that they were "run out of town"
