many examples of this over the past 10 seasons

in 2011 the leafs went on a 8-3-1 run in March 17 of 24 points
Reimer did what hamburgerhelper did

You know what the Sens loss to the Bruins reminds me of?

In all those late season runs, when the Leafs had games against the teams they needed to pass, they'd invariably flop.

Yet another similarity. Very interesting.

it feels like that for sure... but part of the problem is you really have no room for error
you have to reel off a bunch if wins just to get back in the hunt and be 3-5 points back...then, keep winning to overtake 2 or 3 teams.

it just brings back terrible memories of failed late season pushes.. that just wasted the season

Gilmour retired a Leaf.

Edit: so did Clark, actually.
Edit2: neither were captain when they retired, but both came back to the team to the joy of all the fans. Hard to say under those circumstances that they were "run out of town"

Many Sens fans seem to want Alfredsson to come back as front office personnel.

It's clear the recent Leaf captains were all fond of the idea of coming back to Toronto.

Will Alfredsson, or Spezza for that matter?

You'd think a team playing on the same page, with so much pride, wouldn't put up a stinker against the team they're chasing (they're not really chasing them though, some fans just think they are).

Senators just beat the two teams in the Eastern Conference with the best "Home" records, in back to back games.

Yes, the game vs the Bruins was a stinker, I was at that game and did not see the urgency in their game as I did in the previous 10 -15 games.

Ottawa now only has to pass one team to clinch a Wild Card spot, but they're running out of race track and will definitely need either the Bruins or the Capitals to falter.

Five points behind the Bruins and seven behind the Capital (with two games in hand) and would need more points than both teams (to pass them in standings) as both will likely still have the edge in ROWs.

The Capitals looks to have the tougher schedule of the three teams, and Ottawa has the most home games of the three and they also have three games vs the leafs.

Boston .597
Washington .594

Ottawa .560

It's kinda funny how you keep hinting at the senators making the playoffs, and yet are too afraid to say it and have them miss, and be mocked for that.

Given all the things you give us to mock you about anyways, you may as well fully embrace the futile run they're on. Have some fun.

You know me, I've been posting here all season, and have always maintained that they're not going to make the playoffs. Their PO Chances are about 27%, and rarely do teams in playoff spots at Mid December drop out of those spots, and allow another team to move into the vacant spot.

The Senators cannot win thier way into the playoffs ontheri own, they need other teams (Bruins or Capitals) to lose their way out, to allow Ottawa to get in, and that is an extremely long shot.

http://www.playoffstatus....sternwinmagicnumbers.html

The teams in playoff spots (Eastern Conference) in Mid December were

Montréal
toronto
Tampa Bay
Detroit
NY Islanders
Pittsburgh
Washington
Boston

Only the leafs dropped out, to be replaced by the Rangers, it's highly unlikely that another team will muscle their way in, and knock out either the Capitals or Bruins.

Tonight is feeling a little strange to me. The Senators have not beaten the Hurricanes yet this season, and have only won once in their last 12 visits to North Carolina.........so I'm feeling an end to the Hamburglar streak tonight, and the Sabres will probably beat the Bruins.

Again, I pose the question, if a team can lose that many games in a row, what does that say about teams that STILL can't amass as many wins as them?

It says that as of today, the mighty maple leafs are officially eliminated from the playoffs.

I wish they were eliminated sooner, they would be closer to the bottom
i got several messages telling me about the leafs being eliminated from other fans who follow the leafs closer than their own teams...

Leafs and Sens still play 3 times still.. looks like the leafs will factor in the Sens playoff chances very much

Sorry but it's not all Hammond. When Cameron took over, the first thing he instituted was his method of practising, which was a lot more intensive than the previous coach, and changed up the system as well.

This took some time, and then all the injuries hit, and younger players were given bigger roles.

Then he finally left the lines alone, which the previous coach rarely did, and the players began to develop "chemistry" and shortly after the all star game things started to fall into place.

So it's a much better system than before, the players are playing with the same line mates, and with the older players out of the line up the team speed is way up.

So the team is playing so much better that before the all star break, and Hammond is along for the ride, and has admitted that his style is much more suited to the structure that Cameron has established with the Senators.

Do not make the mistake of thinking this incredible turn around is 100% Hammond, because it is not.

You saw it last Saturday, and will again this Saturday.

also not putting crappy players on the ice like Phillips and Cowan helps and Methot coming back.

I heard they recorded videos to tell fans to stop throwing garbage on the ice.

Yeah, there's always the idiots who want to leave the game early to beat the traffic, so they throw staff and leave.

Some off these idiots, in the higher sections in the end zones, are just hitting the netting, and the crap falls on the people below.

It's already getting old, and should just be stopped.

Veteran Bruins team won today, putting the pressure on the much younger Sens.

leafs should be looking to knock the Sens out of playoff contention, and with the lesser injured of the goaltenders playing tonight, the flirtation with the playoffs might not last too long.

Looks like the preemptive excuse was justified.

It's really funny watching you hide your expectations for fear of looking more ridiculous. I guess it's an improvement though.
