Looks like the preemptive excuse was justified.

It's really funny watching you hide your expectations for fear of looking more ridiculous. I guess it's an improvement though.

Here you go again, trying to spin something out of nothing.

I've always maintained that to get into the playoffs would be a long shot at best for the Senators, and have not wavered from that position.

You go ahead and believe whatever you want.

Boston's "magic number" is 10, Ottawas' is 11.

probably for the same reason that hoffman has been demoted to the 4th line, and zack smith takes his place in the top six..............the coach is (frank)ing crazy

From what I heard, Weicioch was somewhat responsible for a couple of goals in the previous game, but I don't know he figured that, but I guess after viewing the game tape.

Plus he probably saw it a s reason to get Cowen back in for a game. But now I see Gryba as a possible press box visitor after two penalties that lead to a couple of PP goals, however the fact that he's a right hand shot might work in his favour.

The weird thing I saw was Greening on the first line?

I think Cammeron just needs to go back to the regular lines that worked well in the the wining streak...............if they have any chance of challenging for the playoffs.

Ottawa needs to pretty much win all of their remaining games, and Boston needs to lose a few.

The "magic number" for both teams is 11.

its seems the sens had a pretty good formula that was successful... why coaches react to a 1 game sample over 10 or 15 good ones I dont get.

I hope PW is traded by the sens...is underrated... Leafs should try to get him

Cowan might be done as a top 4 player... he is signed long term but... could be traded I think still..

Wiercioch is the better option.

Cowen is still young as an NHL Dman with only having played 212 games at that level.

Last year the colour Guy on Sens regional TV broadcasts said you'd need to see at least 300 games in the NHL before having a good feel on how a young Dman will do in the NHL, so I'll go with that assessment before giving up on Cowen right now.

the league has not been nice to big...slower, stay at home type D..whatever you want to call them.. the odds of him being a top 4 D are slipping down... being a healthy scratch for a bunch of games

the other day on tsn1200 one of the talking heads said they wouldnt trade Cowan for Kadri

Again, I'd wait for at least until the end of next season, when Cowen would have played 300 games plus, before making any assessment on his NHL viability for the long term.

This is what the colour guy of the Sens TV broadcasts (last season) said is the minimum number of games Cowen or any Dman should be given before making any decision.

You do realize that being "young" is not defined as "playing less than ___ games", right?

that's called inexperienced.

He's 24, which really isn't that young anymore.

You have your opinion, but I'll stick with what the colour guy on the Sens TV broadcasts (last season) said is the minimum number of games before giving up on Cowen.

dude.....cowen sucks.

i would maintain some hope if he'd show even a little improvement..........but if anything, he's getting worse.

cowen has the physical tools to be a decent shutdown d-man, but he has the hockey IQ John Scott.

he was drafted high because big physical d-men were the "flavour of the day" at the time. he'll never be more than an average bottom pairing guy.......if that.....and right now, he's probably not even an NHL calibre d-man.

You're entitled to your opinion too, but I'm willing to wait for at least 300 games at the NHL level, as the former TV Colour Commentator for the Sens regional TV games suggested when discussing Cowen on air last season.

Sure he's 24 years old, but has had to deal with a couple of serious injuries early in his NHL career and has never really had the chance to gain some rhythm by being moved in and out of the line up over his 218 games in the NHL so far.

So he's played 6 NHL games in the last few hours. He can't be that bad.

This isn't a matter of some idiot Sens TV guy. It's a matter of you defining young in terms of how many games one has played. It's a language issue. It's a comprehension issue on your part.

Yeah whatever, I didn't look it up every time.

Point is he needs at least another full season to reach the 300 game mark, as suggested by the Former Colour Commemorator of Sens broadcasts.

The point is Patrick Wiercioch was the "odd man out" for most of last season and most of this season...............he was trade bait and always rumoured to on his way out of town, but he finally was given a chance to play a significant number of games in a row to find his "footing" in the NHL and now is seen as a decent NHL defenceman.

Cowen will need to come to training camp ready to roll next season and the coaching staff will have to give him the same break they gave Patrick Wiercioch

Wow, you're calling three time Norris Trophy winner Denis Potvin an idiot, that's a bold statement, putting your knowledge of the game, over a guy who played over 1000 games in the NHL.

Well, I'm a baby compared to him. I haven't even played any games. You would probably not give up on me as an NHL prospect. Not yet anyway.

And yes, there are some serious idiots out there that have played more than 1000 games.

So are you in fact calling three time Norris Trophy winner Denis Potvin, and his thoughts on assessing a young NHL Defence-man, an Idiot.

If yes, then are you telling us you know more than him?

Ottawa totally Dominated the game vs the Wings last night, and made the Detroit goaltender look like the re-incarnation of Hasek.

Rookie Mark Stone could have had three or more goals last night, and was the best player on the ice for the entire game.

He now leads the NHL in takeaways, is in the top ten in over scoring in the NHL since the beginning of this year, is fourth in points among rookies, not bad for a Sixth round pick.

it must feel great to be 18th in the NHL, 5th in the division and picking 14th in the draft

I know the Leafs have been very successful with that strategy
