It's true. Without exception, when it's an important game, the Leafs will beat the Sens.
So if trying to win games you mean using certain players with offensive skill-sets on the PP and at even strength...........and other players with defensive skill-sets on the PK and trying to shutdown the opponents top six forwards, then I would agree with that.
I guess it's really hard for you to relate to a team that has every player on the same page, and taking pride in the way they play, by playing to win games.
Clearly there are two "camps" on the leaf roster, as was discussed at length (Sportsnet) after the struggles to get by the Sabres in a SO. One group of mostly veterans who've thrown in the towel months ago and are going through the motions, and the younger group who are playing with some pride. - Doppleganger

Skittish Leafs fans have been worried about this sort of run for a while. They remember all-too well how J-S Aubin went 9-0-2 at the tail end of 2006 to drop their draft pick from eighth overall to 13th. (They took Jiri Tlusty and missed out on Kyle Okposo and Bryan Little, among others.)
They also remember 2009, when former GM Brian Burke claimed Martin Gerber on waivers in early March and Boyd Devereaux scored a hat trick in the final game of the season.
Six points out of a top five pick and fading when they claimed Gerber (with 11 wins in their previous 31 games), the Leafs finished the year 9-9-0 and narrowly missed being able to draft Matt Duchene or Oliver Ekman-Larsson.

Don't you find it concerning that the Sens had a chance to take control of their fate, and blew it against a team picking in the top 5?
I recall you making fun of he Habs for losing to teams beneath them not to long ago, when you were gung ho on the playoff wagon. - Feeling Glucky?
I've never once said they'd make the playoffs at anytime this season. Prove me wrong and find and post a quote were I did.
And still do not believe they will, as the odds of coming back from a 14 point deficit at the all star game and making the playoffs were extremely long, and now they need a team to lose two or more of their remaining games, while the Senators need at least 5 of 6 points.
As for the Habs, I still believe they will be first round fodder for whom ever they face. |

That's right. You never said it, you just posted the odds when they were in the Sens' favour every day. |

Spin Spin Spin, not everyday, once in a while when they were interesting in relationship to what was happening in the incredible run the Sens have been on since the All start break.
Fun fact, the last time the Penguins played the Senators, they were 20 points ahead of them in the standings. With a win tonight (regulation) the Sens would be tied in points with the Pens, and if the Pens win in regulation, they cannot be passed by the Sens in the Standings.
Senators playing games that actually mean something, in the playoff race, in April, while the leafs are in the middle of their pretend 7 game series. |

Lead by Rookie of the year Candidate(s) Sens keep their season alive.
The Four teams that, Mathematically the Senators could possibly catch, the magic numbers to eliminate the Senators are...............
Islanders (2 games left) 1
Red Wings (2 games left) 2
Penguins (2 games left) 3
Bruins (3 games left) 4
The Odds for the Senators to make the playoffs are just over 31%, and need a team (or two) ahead of them to lose a game or two (in regulation) while getting a minimum of three points in two games themselves.
It's been a great last three months of the season, but all those one goal losses in October and November, have now come back to haunt them, and there will need to be a miracle for the Senators to make the playoffs this season.

Solid Solid Solid Road win tonight by the Senators.
Ottawa is the hottest team in the NHL, and if they make the playoffs, it will have been an incredible run since the all star break, when they were something like 14 or 15 points out of a playoff spot.
Still need a team (that they are challenging with) to lose a game between now and the end of the season.

Looks like the re-build has taken a big step forward.
A good number of the younger players on the Senators have already experienced an incredible Playoff run en-route to a Calder Cup Championship, and now they've been a part of an NHL record making up of a 14 point deficit to walk through the front door of the 2015 playoffs.

Ryan must be injured, and he cannot seem to shoot the puck anymore. Will have to wait until after the playoffs to know for sure.
Doubt Ottawa would be further ahead with Silfverberg in their line up. Ottawa was not going to keep both Stone and Silfverberg in their system, so I think they kept the right prospect.
So as a re-build move keeping Stone and using Silfverberg to acquire Ryan may end up being good for both organizations.
Still a better move than shipping out picks ( Seguin & Hamilton) for Kessel, in terms of a re-build.

conveniently left out Rick Richie
I dont understand why the choice is between stone and Silfverberg. you can have both. Right now you have Ryan and Stone, whats the difference?
The longer this goes on, its looking worse as a trade for the sens.
Just like Kessel, these trades are not working out for mediocre teams.
You add a Kessel or Ryan once you are a contender not a pretender |

J.S. Aubin V2... Leafs missed the playoffs by 1 point when he came in on his run, Sens made it in by 3.
Pretty similar situation, IMO.... wouldn't be surprised to see their follow-up year go the same way. |

Don't be so bitter - Feeling Glucky?
No bitterness here, it's not like the Senators were some crap bottom feeder team with a dysfunctional locker room that decided to bail on the fans (#stickgate) midday through the season.
We here in Ottawa have seen a little NHL history unfold in the past the 2 1/2 months, and might see a couple of players come away with some NHL hardware.
We've watched more meaningful games in the past month than some basement dweller teams have seen in a decade.
The Senators were, at best (at the beginning of the season) were given an outside chance at challenging for the bottom wild card spot. They managed to do better than all the so called "experts" predicted and the long term outlook for the team is much further ahead than expected.
Altogether it was a good season all around. |

Like I said they were given"outside chance at challenging for the bottom wild card spot" and managed to exceed those low expectations.
Doubt Murray will make the "mistakes" that you assume he might.
BTW what might those be? |

Lots of opportunity for mistakes
Travis Yost @travisyost
Ottawa's at $58MM. Say their true cap is $66MM. It's really tight. Lot of dead money. And look at names pending!
Travis Yost @travisyost
@travisyost Starting from Cowen and ending with Borowiecki, that's $17MM in just totally dead $. Not good for a budget team..
