Lots of opportunity for mistakes

Travis Yost @travisyost
Ottawa's at $58MM. Say their true cap is $66MM. It's really tight. Lot of dead money. And look at names pending!

Travis Yost @travisyost
@travisyost Starting from Cowen and ending with Borowiecki, that's $17MM in just totally dead $. Not good for a budget team..

- senstroll

There were rumors that Ottawa it's looking to shed salary, and they're no where near the cap.

Melnyk is milking that team for everything it's got.

it's not nearly that bad. phillips is coming off back surgery and a year where he was a constant healthy scracth. i fully expect him to retire.

neil and smith can easily be moved.....teams are always looking for guys like that. return wouldn't be great, but still pretty easy deals to make.

i imagine legwand would be the same.....maybe ottawa eats some of hte contract, but still moveable.

if it comes to it....gryba and boro can be put on waivers and buried in the minors. you can bury 1 mil in salary per player, which would be almost their entire salary.

there are tons of moves that murray can make to re-sign all his RFAs, and keep the core of the team together, while not being right up against the cap.

Wiercioch was 5 minutes from being dealt at deadline. Other team involved never called back becuz they had another deal fall apart. #Sens

If thats true I really question what the GM is doing.
Yost has been high on PW for a long time.. fancy stats help..this is why
http://www.tsn.ca/patrick...-vs-eyeball-test-1.223118

So basically the sens kept PW by accident
do they make the run they did without him and say Phillips or Cowan in his place?

wiercioch is a good player, but certainly not a "make or break" guy. he was good as a #4 guy...........although if you look at the possession numbers, even during that run, him and ceci were usually the worst pair on the ice....in terms of shot attempts for vs against.

i can't imagine he would have been the difference in winning or losing any of those games.

that being said, i'm glad they held on to him.

Players like that are often undervalued and contributions minimized.

Here are the raw corsi stats i see from March 1 until the end of the season

Methot 54.32
EK 53.84
PW 53.30
Ceci 51.98
Grya 45.69
Boro 44.18
Cowan 45.38 (5 games)

I think swapping PW out for Cowan or Phillips who were about 45% players makes more of a diff than you give credit for.

who knows, you might be right.......and i do agree that PW is a very very underrated player, at least until cameron took over. many sens fans were perplexed by maclean's unwillingness to play PW, instead parading out cowen and phillips in the top 4.

seeing as the sens had almost zero margin for error to make the playoffs..its a good bet he was a diff maker overall.

I hope Murray still wants to trade him... to the leafs

this is good news for the Sens making dumb off season moves

Bruce Garrioch @SunGarrioch
Can't see Erik Condra being back. No room for him unless contracts are moved. He can make a lot on open market. #Sens

Ian Mendes @ian_mendes
Bryan Murray says they will make an offer to Andrew Hammond. And if he accepts, there might be a change with one of the other two guys.

murray isn't going to open up the bank for hammond. sure, he'll make him an offer.....1 year, 2 mil, or something like that (just to make sure he wasn't just a flash in the pan)......but i have no doubt there are enough teams out there desperate for goaltending, that ottawa will get outbid (philly, edmonton, buff, arizona, etc, etc)

as for condra, i can't imagine him not getting re-signed. take what garrioch says with a grain of salt........he's wrong MUCH MORE often than he's right. he also guaranteed methot would be traded, said ottawa would make lots of moves at the deadline, etc, etc. as long as condra is reasonable with his demands (not trying to get 4 mil on a long term deal) i think murray will get it done.

Gonna take a bit more than that... And I'd want the 2016 1st, without Hammond's miracle run, it'd be a good shot at Matthews, Brown or Chyurnchn(however the (frank) you spell it)

I don't understand. Dopps insured me there's plenty of cap space, and Melnyk will spend to build a winner.

Hammond would be smart to take the best offer out there. He may give Ottawa a chance to match it, but I doubt they would over pay him if they believe it's too much.

No problem with Anderson and Lehner gong forward.

Keeping Condra would be nice, but at a reasonable third line price, but it would not be the end of the world if he takes a richer offer from another team. He may take a lower salary for longer term if he wants to stay with the Senators.

So I guess Matt O'Connor signed a deal with the Senators to play for nothing?
