Congrats Shawn, you fought a guy bigger then you. I applaud you for standing up to him. It wonderful you fought seven Canucks and still wanted to go again, you are obviously and man of extreme stamina. All the Canucks and their fans should kneel at your feet for that. And you have fought three times in one period, WOW!, although I'm not sure I buy that, three times in a game maybe. What's next to come out of his mouth, maybe he had a threesome with Jessica Beil and Jennifer Aniston?
Yes please! |

lets be clear on this. Thornton isn't being interviewed by espn, tsn, the hockey news, tmz, new your times, nbc sports etc. he has a spot on a local cable, half hour, 11 pm hockey show. he lives in charlestown which is walking distance to the Garden. the studio foir this show is right across the street from the garden. he is loved by bruins fans. loved. lots of people wanted him to get the "A" vacated by recchi. if its gotten to "big" it's not been done by anyone in new england. |

Yup enough with is stuff. There's a good chance they don't play again until next year and even then it's be only one game. The media has got to go back to reporting and stop cheerleading for "their team" One more reporter says "we" when talking about the team's accomplishments and I am going to lose it. You didn't win the cup, you did not stand up to he bruins, you did not raise a cup banner. You sat in a pressbox or in the studio or at home and watched it like the rest of us, you are not part of the team. |

This article just reeks of a status quo, Vancouver response, with really weird generalizations. Move on, or don't. But if you say you don't want to give "4th liners more minutes in the media than on the ice" or whatever, then ...don't make an article on him? |

Personally, it seems like Shawn Thornton is a great guy to hear from. When I watch most hockey interviews, they are boring and saying the same thing over and over again. Who cares fourth line players aren't always on the ice that much. They are on the ice more than you or I. The fact is that the NHL is trying to sell something and boring people don't sell that well. If Shawn is able to be approachable, I say let him speak. If he does pull an Avery, then I have no issues with him being told to cool it.
I'd rather be interested in what the players have to say instead of constantly hearing, "We just have to get a better forecheck and put the puck on net." There is a difference between over the top and entertaining. I really view this as I do goal celebrations. A little bit of enthusiam for actually helping your team is great, just don't pull a Theo Fleury. The NHL is doing a lot with 24/7 to make players seem exciting. There aren't as many players like JR that were stars and willing to open their mouth once in a while to stir it up. Guys like Tim Thomas and Jagr that seem like they have fun and are willing to talk about it come to mind. Let's be real though, Toews, Crosby, Chara, M. Richards and more all come off as boring(and they have all been considered face of franchise/league type players). |

He is a good energy player, but really anyone who plays on the 4th line of a cup winning team, only plays 9 minutes or so. He did his job very well, his teammates love him, and the fans love him. That Burrows stick to the throat was a real tough move by him And Weise like a coward backs away, Thornton would fight anyone on the Nucks, just because he's bigger than Weise, Wiese shouldn't fight? Pathetic. |

I'm shocked that Gallagher is dumb enough to go on a Boston TV show. What did he think was going to happen? - http://sports.yahoo.com/n...-tv-video?urn=nhl,wp22176
At least if you're gonna do so, you:
1. Need to be unbiased.
2. Have your thoughts clear in your head before you get on the air.
Why can't everyone just move on? As others have stated on this thread, there's so much more to be concerned with right now. |
