just listened to feaster talk about the goalie they picked up.
top goalie in europe he says.
so where does the over/under on kipper sit trade deadline july first?
and if if kipper is going does iggy go?
well congrats to all you flamers (jk) looks like you guys are going into full rebuild mode.
cammi brought in to provide some element of respectability some painful days ahead but it seems to be the obvious path to follow |

Rammo is a good prospect, but to bank on him to come over and make an impact would be foolish. |

They have Irving, it's not banking on anything. |

how is the Oilers rebuild going? gonna break 60 points this year? During a rebuild shouldn't the team get better each year not worse?
thanks for your input

whoooooa guess I touched a nerve there.
I in no way was trying to troll your thread
but the deal does not make sense
Cammi is a good player and you team is probably better today than yesterday
since the deal did not make sense to me i put my tiny gerbil wheel to work and thats how I got to where I did.
hopefully this deal can propel you guys into the playoffs but longterm this deal does not make sense for the flames.

Why is everyone so excited about a lateral move?

Moving Bourque for Cami is NOT a "lateral" move.
You'll see soon enough out east how much of a floater Bourque really is. |

This trade might be a big enough of a kick in the pants to get Bourque going for the next little while and everyone in Montreal will think they won the trade... then he'll begin his now you see me now you don't shtick. |

No, it's definitely not a lateral move.

Sorta is a lateral move, hockey wise.
Both players hated equally by most fans in the previous cities.
Numbers for both have been very simular last 3 years.
Under stifling defensive systems, both players have struggled
Opps almost forgot couple points, you are right it is not a lateral move.
Montreal picks up a big player, that has played defensively enough to actually know what his goalie looks like, not saying he is great, but does try sometimes
Montreal sheds 3+ mill
Montreal picks up 2nd round pick
Montreal trades a goalie that has no interest in playing in Canada, unless he gets his own way.
Montreal picks up a player selected to go to Canada's Junior camp this year.
Calgary clearly wins this trade!! |

Actually the difference is not 3+ mill. It's 2.67 for two years, then Montreal adds $3.33 for two years after that. The term in this trade is important. Also Patrick Holland is not considered anything close to a blue chip prospect and I believe he was among the first cuts for team Canada.
The goalie in this trade may or may not prove to be an important piece but certainly don't blame him for taking $2 million per to be a starter in Russia. |

You are so right, Holland may or may not make the NHL, but I would rather have a GM/Coach that would keep a prospect or 2 past 19 years of age. You never know what you get in , later rounds. Also, there is no guarantee that a top pick will pan out either, but.... There is this player in Detroit by the name Datsyuk who was drafted 6th round. I would rather have a GM/coach that would be willing to give him a shot, than trade em for a 29 year old that will not play defensive hockey and has 1-2 years max before his aging ass slows him down.
Now, on the other hand, Backlund has been given a long, too long, a chance to prove he can play, I would rather see him in Montreal than Holland. Its about growth and potential. Backlund has none. After 3 years, it is time to pull the plug on the slug. Holland, granted does not have much potential, but now we will never know. On the right team, in the right environment, you may find a gem and to give up before you even try is a big FAIL, one the Flames continue to make under the past GM and current.
You, not unlike our current management give up the youth long before they actually even have chance to prove themselves. I bet you put Holland on Calgary at 19 yrs old and give him Backlund minutes, he would out perform him hands down. Then again, 8 points in 30 games, that is hard to best.
Flames have to move the crap out, not the prospects.

Just because he didn't work out in Montreal doesn't mean he won't do well in Calgary, where historically he has done VERY well. |

Maybe, but the complaints about Bourque are the same Habs fans had with Cammalleri.
If Bourque was lazy in Calgary, Cammalleri was lazy in mtl. |

True but Cammalerri has had a much more successful career and did it while being a year younger than Bourque. I think he's a much more proven commodity and has been labelled as a fierce competitor in the past whereas Bourque has never been labelled anything other than streaky.
You have to admire the fire in Cammy, calling his entire team out for a poor attitude. No fear. |

Off topic, but holy crap did you see that Chi vs Det game today.
No way Flames can compete with those to bad boys
Third period onslaught was insane by Chi.
Howard will be twitching for weeks after that.
Holy Shyte
Man, would i ever like to see Beantown and Chitown in the Final
They are by far the 2 most entertaining teams in a long long time.
Van is close, but not quite as fun to watch, if they could lose the drama a rematch would be good too

Oh, please, I'm not giving up on the youth, I just stated Holland is not a blue chip prospect which he isn't. And no, I'm not willing to give up on Backlund yet as he does have the potential to be a good top 6 player. This year has been a setback for him but he still has a much higher ceiling than Holland. In terms of prospects in this deal, Calgary likely got the better prospect with the goalie. The 2nd going back to the Habs does hurt but we'll see how it all plays out.
I honestly think this might be a trade that helps both teams. Bourque was too comfortable here with that 6 year contract and Cammi obviously needed a change as well. Both players have the ability to make their respective GMs look good. |

Cammalleri was the biguest loser on the team and had the worst attitude out of all of them.
He sure did not care on the ice, where it matters most. At this point, he was a cancer. |
