I'm sure Pittsburgh is going to be just fine. They have some solid talent and I'm sure their GM will resign some of the guys, trade others, and let some just walk. That's generally what happens on teams. They have a pretty solid GM, so I'm sure Pittsburgh will still be competitive. - HonkFortheGoose
I'm sure given the current situation most people if not all, would rather have Ray Shero rebuilding a team over Darcy Regier.

Reallly... and the Sabres have had their whole line-up together??
Sabres have the most games lost by any NHL team this year.. And we don't have a player like Malkin to hang our hat on to keep us in the race.
With all of the games that the Sabres have lost due to injury I'm actually half way satisfied with where we are at currently and the teams in front of us
You say that injuries are not an excuse and that good teams find a way to win.. - MillerTime1130
Malkin was in and out of the lineup for a while too, so that argument doesn't really work.
Florida also has had a ton of guys out with injury this year, and they've managed to still put together a decent season thus far. They definitely do not have a "Malkin" on their team. |

Sports are cyclical, there will come a time when the Penguins will be down again. The thing not to do is wallow in mediocrity like the Bills and Sabres do. - Gunner Staal
I wouldn't generally call what the Sabres have done as "wallowing in mediocrity." They have made the playoffs and been competitive. They won their division 2 years ago. That's not exactly mediocre play.
Now the Bills on the other hand.......... |

Quick is having a good year.
Rinne is top 5. Lundqvist is top 5. Howard is top 10, he just plays on detroit which is a stable team. Fleury stands on his head.

The big difference with Pittsburgh is that Shero has developed a strong organization and is not afraid to make changes.

REALLLLLLLLY???
I am not even a Bills fan.. I am from Wisconsin.. so we won't even go there when it comes to superbowl XLV.. stupid comments like those should get you a curbstomp.
The penguins had their time.. and now they haven't made it to the finals for what 3 years??
And how about those Pirates!!?? worst team in MLB for the last what 20 years??
YOU GOT TEBOW'D.. now STFU |

I don't disagree but at the same time I do think that people assume that the Sabres were gonna walk all over the Oilers and I don't think that is necessarily true. The only reason the Oilers lost was because Roloson went down. - Gunner Staal
Roloson was unreal that playoffs.. but the sabres had no trouble scoring it was the depth of defense that killed them... maybe i am wrong but i think they were close to getting at least one of those guys back had they moved on. but oh well it is all over |

More than half the Conference makes the playoffs. They put together a nice little stretch with Drury and Briere, but thats about it. Since those guys left there have been two 1st round exits and two non playoff seasons. This season is looking like a non playoff year as well. Say they do sneak in, it would also look like another first round exit.
The problem with the non playoff seasons is that they are still picking in the middle of the draft. |

Well I am not supporting Regier....
I was just merely saying that there is going to be a HUGE turnover in Pitt in the next few years... so don't expect them to be the contenders every year going forward..
karma will come back to you when you kick other teams when they are down. |

I'm not sure I'd call the Sabres mediocre since the lockout. In 2006 and 2007 they were elite. They won the division 2 years ago. Have they been good enough? Absolutely not. However, even Boston until last April, hadn't shown they were an elite squad since the lockout. They were in 4th, had some significant bumps in the road during the season, and they came together at the right time. Even then, they needed 3 game 7's to complete the run. They didn't exactly blow the competition away last year. That's not to say they weren't a great team, but the stars did align for them somewhat, and they took advantage.
That being said, the Sabres' recipe of stability hasn't put them over the top, and they deserve criticism for that. |

There may not be huge turnover in Pittsburgh. Shero is a smart guy. I bet some of those guys get extensions before their current contract even expires. Pittsburgh is generally very good as far as depth in the organization goes as well, so the guys they do lose will be replaced by younger, cheaper guys who will fill the same roles as the ones that left. |

You are kidding right??
You think that Malkin or Crosby would come back for 8.7M.. no they would want pay raises..
Stall will want to go from probably 4 million to 5.5 a year if not more..
Kunitz and Neal will both want to be paid about 4.5 with the years that they have had recently..
Tyler Kennedy will be deserving a major pay raise from 2 million to about 4 or so..
Oprik and Letang included as well.. you don't think that them getting 3.75 now that someone would pay them 4.5 or 5 mil a year?
All of these players would get big money thrown at them in the open market so don't count on them taking hometown discounts to stay in Pitt |

IMO Howard is greatly overvalued.. is he a decent goalie, yes. But is he top 10 in the league i don't think so unless he is #10 |
