God Blog Bill, as usual on point. Hopefully Bryz can get in gear, which means he should get the majority of the starts here on out |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: 2/18/12 - bmeltzer
So, Bill, what are your thoughts on:
1. Trading for Nash?
2. Trading for another goalie options?
3. Changing coaches?
4. Other potential deals?
Sorry, getting bummed by all the negativity and idiocy |

You're not new to all this.
To be honest, I thought the 'fire Laviolette' cries would have started long before this (and they haven't been overwhelming - yet). |

beat me to it, im totally for a new coach right now...i still beleive bryz is better then what hes showing and im going to blame lavys system, its evident that the goalie is all by himself in this system and wears the team out..happened in carolina.
id love to have nash and would be okay with giving schenn, bob and a first |

There's no need to make a coaching change before the summer. Also, there's not a ton of viable candidates right now. |

Right cause Carolina has fared so much better without him..Listen I dont disagree that he handles goalies poorly but he is a good coach and Bob and Bryz arent even making routine saves. Cooke 2 goals, you kiddin me? Holmgrem has no choice but to trade for a goalie. Just have to hope someone else will take Bob off our hands for an upgrade. If Columbus has no other offers I bet you see :
PHI Nash/Mason or Sanford
CLB: JVR, BOB, 1st, and Gustaffson |

1. Against it. Goal scoring isn't this team's problem, and his salary cap hit is a tough one to work around.
2. I just want Bryzgalov (and Bobrovsky) to make the routine saves and a few momentum stops. I KNOW they're both capable of doing that. I'm not asking for miracles here. If another goalie would do it better (than Bobrovsky, because Bryz is unmovable), then sure.
3. Not this season.
4. I'd like to see the Flyers add a big, checking forward with some grit (Gaustad, Moen, etc) but they'll need a little more cap space and to balance off the reserve list to do it.

How does Schenn's contract work? Does he continue making the 1.7 or whatever next year or does he jump up to 3.whatever? |

Thats interesting, id rather take sanford. I agree with Lava as a coach. Guy is a excellent coach. I dunno what Reese is doing or isnt doing but Sean Burke in PHX seems to have corrected whatever has ailed Smith. |

if howson is trying to push the flyers to take nash if im homer then i would say the only way we are doing that is if you take bryz |

Not when the Flyers were guilty of 15 giveaways, including five by Marc-Andre Bourdon, to just 6 by Pittsburgh.

I don't want Laviolette fired tonight or anything, but I think I'd like to see a more pulled back, defensively responsible system from him starting next year. It's too late for fundamental changes at this point. I think the raw talent of the forwards would allow for the Flyers to score more goals than teams like say, the Kings, if they were playing much more defensively minded hockey. Goals will drop, but you have to hope that the goals against drops more. But that's all for next season IMO, again, too late now really.
Still, maybe everyone gets on the same page, goalies get confident/play better, new defense plays great, and things roll here on out. I don't know anymore. |

Right. Steve mason of the 3.47 gaa and .885 sv% is going to save the flyers goaltending. Not so much.
The Flyers should not trade for a goalie. I may be one of the few but I do not want to get rid of Bob just for the sake of getting rid of Bob. Bryz would be impossible to trade and it isn't going to matter who you get in goal if the team in front of them doesn't start playing better.
The Flyers need to ride it out this year and reevalute over the summer. |

Do you think it's a coaching issue? Is Laviolette the reason the team - as a whole - has a tendency to play with heads up their asses?
