As a defensemen, if you're not noticed, you're doing your job. Defensemen usually get noticed because they're doing things they shouldn't. He plays a quiet and effective game. To me, that's the most important aspect of a D man. If you can get one or two that are able to chip in offensively, great. But that's not their main purpose. - HonkFortheGoose
You are correct... Bill Hajt was hardly noticeable yet he was probably the best "defensive" defense man in Sabres history......... |

Interesting thought about Rochester:
I went to Saturday's game in Cleveland against the Lake Erie Monsters. McNabb looked exactly like we would think he should. He rips shots repeatedly from the blueline during the PP and was very solid defensively. He also had a few good hits and fought during the game.
The guy that really stood out to me though was Crawford. Nobody ever talks about him but he seems to have a pretty solid defensive game. He's very much no frills and I don't see any type of offensive play from him really, but he made a lot of really good solid defensive plays. He's the type of defenseman that after a game you say "Did Crawford even play tonight?" To me, that's a good thing. When you're a defensemen and you manage to get through a game without really being noticed at all, you did your job for the night. - HonkFortheGoose
We say that about stafford most games

When you're a forward who's expected to contribute offensively, that's not a good thing. |
|
|
|
Kind of like Vanek over his 20 games, but we dont notice the mistakes he makes because he put up 40 points in the first half of the season. |

I knew that's what you're doing.
It seems though that some people around here need a little extra clarification. |

You are correct... Bill Hajt was hardly noticeable yet he was probably the best "defensive" defense man in Sabres history......... - rapperray
Bang on Ray, well said. For the younger folks on here that never saw Hajt play, he was a master at playing the 2 on 1. IMO no other D man in Sabres history was better than him at the defensive part of it. He was respected around the league and I know on many nights he drove the Lafleurs, Ratelle's and Esposito's crazy. It's too bad this current crew doesn't have a Bill Hajt on it. |

4th place on the team in PIM - behind 8, 28, and 36. Soon to be in 3rd place if he keeps up at the same pace. |

Hajt was that stay at home defensmen that really never showed up in the box score at the end of the night, but did a solid job! |

The only reason i noticed that is because i specifically paid attention to it because we dont normally pay attention to people who take penalty minutes. |

most of the PIMS are completely unnecessary or lazy plays too.. |

46PIM is nothing. I don't even think he's in the top 100 for PIM. Getzlaf has more. I guess we don't want that guy, he must be lazy. Hartnell has 54 points and 100 min....not on my team! Pfffft, |
