With all of those high draft picks you would think that they would have gotten a #1 center..

Strike 1
Strike 2
Strike 3
Strike 4
Strike 5
Strike 6
F*** IT

The high picks only work if you get the right players around them. I'm really not sure how Howson still has a job. We all think Regier is awful, but that guy is the worst. At least we've made the playoffs more than 1x since the lockout.

For what it's worth:

Hockeyy Insiderr@HockeyyInsiderr

#Sabres update: GOOD Offer on the table for D.Roy. #Caps putting ball in BUF court. Sabres waiting bc trying to ship Roy in another deal.

Text your source please Homer

It would probably be Knuble, Aucoin (UFA), and a 2nd rounder.

Howson/Columbus has made the playoffs more since the lockout then Burke/Leafs

There has been talk that Knuble was on the table. Maybe they would put 21 year old Johansson in the deal.

WSH also has 3 of the top 5 AHL scorers, but all 3 of them are UFAs at the end of this year and one is 33 year old AHL lifer Aucoin.

Aucoin has 11 goals and 59 assists this season last time I looked in like 50 games.

Burke hasn't been the GM the entire time since the lockout. Toronto was a complete mess when Burke got there. He's done a really good job of rebuilding their prospect pool and is now icing a competitive team. When you step into that kind of situation, it's not something that's going to change overnight.

That being said, Columbus is in that same boat right now. They also play in a much harder division. Don't get me wrong, the Northeast is competitive, but the Central division is the hardest one in the league right now. It's going to be a good 3 years or so at least before Columbus will be able to compete for a playoff spot and that's only if they can start getting the right players in now. They'll be lucky if the team is still in Columbus at that point.

I would in no way give up Roy for Knuble. He's like 900 years old.

I like his age, he has decent size for a center.

He has only 1 less point than Roy does this season.

But at no point in any minor league team has he scored even 40 total points in a season. If Roy is moved it needs to be for a guy that is bursting at the seems with potential.

WSH does have Col's and their own 1st round picks to deal as well.

STL's Langenbrunner is out for 4 weeks.

I think someone just got a spot to trade for.

Boyes reunion???

Stafford for Stewart?? (two players that really need a change of scenery?

Like that one. Staff's ceiling is higher but Stewart's contract is way more friendly.

I am not rushing to trade Roy. He is still a productive center at a reasonable price. If the right deal came along, I would listen, of course.

Most likely scenario - Darcy does little or nothing, clinging to the preposterous notion that this team can either make the playoffs, or come close to winning something there.

DING DING... we have a winner.

I agree. Stafford's contract is not friendly and it is for another 3 years.

Stewart is an RFA at the end of this year currently making 2.875M.

Stewart like Stafford has one great year where his potential showed through.

I am not completely sold on selling Roy away for prospects or a draft pick.

I think I would only trade Roy if it was in a deal to bring back another NHL top 6.
