JJ. If Columbus had asked the Hawks for Leddy and a #1 or for Hjalmarrson and a #1 for Carter would you have made that deal. Have no idea what they wanted from the Hawks but Johnson and a #1 doesn't seem like much. - RetiredGoalie
Was a huge fan of Hjalmarrson, however I feel he is not living up to his potential. Yes he blocks shots, but he can not move anybody out of the crease. Feeling his value is decreasing as the years go bye. Should of let the Sharks take him over Niemi. |

I don't know what JJ's take is on this but in my opinion the hawks do not have the depth to give up a D man right now......without knowing if they will get someone you just can't give up a Leddy or Hjam if you have no other Dman coming in. - UnnamedSource
Agreed, and I actually brought this up in more detail earlier, that I would have made either of those deals, but only if the Hawks were able to get a d-man in another deal with another team to replace either Hjalmarrson or Leddy. Just for argument sake, what if they traded Leddy and the #1 to Columubs for Carter and then were able to get Allen from Carolina for, let's just say, Bickell and a pick or Frolik a prospect and a pick. Just curious if anyone who didn't want to part with Hammer or Leddy in a deal would have second thoughts under this scenario. |

Yep. But I think there are valid questions if he is too cautious/"thrifty" to do much then. Or if he has the proper judgement. After Campbell was dealt, he did nothing with $5+ million in cap room. Hawks are paying for it now. - John Jaeckel
Yes as I've stated before my issue was never that he got rid of Campbell because I always felt 7.2 was way to much (fellow hawk fans I am not saying Campbell wasn't good, just not for that amount).........but my issue was what he brought in with that money and......we were told in the offseason that the Hawks would be in a better position than most teams to make a midseason transaction......well........crickets............

stan bowman i wanted to let you know you get no credit for effort in trying to make a trade
results are what matters and right now you are failing
if stan was a commodities trader he would be actively bidding just below the actual trading price and selling just above the selling price and in the end he would go home without ever actually making any money
stan the hawks need more commodities and you have plenty to trade so get a sack and jump into the market |

No chance in hell. I would not have given much more than an old skate sharpener and a couple of rolls of tape for Carter. Carter was/is not what this team needs. |

Hjamarrson is watching is replacement in fellow teammate Olsen......with a 3.5 cap hit don't be surprised if he gets moves after next season when 34 is ready to go......

If Stan was a commodities trader...the Hawks would likely be in more capable hands and we'd probably all be In a better mood. |

Random thought......trying to juggle Eberle, Kessel, and Vrbata at my RW position on one of my fantasy hockey teams when they play on the same night is becoming a headache..... |

Yep...still waiting.
If the cap room isn't utilized, what was the point in trading Campbell? So Olesz could help the Icehogs STILL finish last in the A?
That's one reason I've suggested the Hawks should just be sellers at this point, stockpile more picks, shed more salary and make a big play in free agency after the CBA dust settles. It may sound nutz, but it doesn't appear that management has much interest in making a push this year.
Management seems to have chosen mediocrity. |

Rob,
The point of trading Soupy wasn't to free up capspace for later moves, but to save money.
