Yeah a guy who has scored 20+ goals except one season isn't needed.

Yet people drool over Dave Bolland.

- JoeHawks88

Goals for...191, third best in the league.
Goals against...178, sixth worst in the league.

They need more defense more than they need more offense...so yeah, not needed.

Yep...still waiting.
If the cap room isn't utilized, what was the point in trading Campbell? So Olesz could help the Icehogs STILL finish last in the A?

That's one reason I've suggested the Hawks should just be sellers at this point, stockpile more picks, shed more salary and make a big play in free agency after the CBA dust settles. It may sound nutz, but it doesn't appear that management has much interest in making a push this year.

Management seems to have chosen mediocrity.

Before I pass judgement on Bowman I will wait till Monday......but I do agree about not making a push.....and they will have 15 million in cap space if it goes up to the projected 70 mill.......I'm just not confident it will be well spent.

Rob,

The point of trading Soupy wasn't to free up capspace for later moves, but to save money.

- Beaver-Warrior

But Beav....SB expressly said...the move would create flexibility with the roster when it was needed. Are you suggesting SB was being less than forthright?

Agreed......they don't need more scoring. A better defense would create even more chances on offense.

That wouldn't fly in suburban Chicago...inspectors frown on that sort of thing.

Sad. The old cross contamination issue right?

To be honest I don't think Gaustad would be a downgrade. Bolland scores a LITTLE more than PG, but Gaustad is a MUCH better physical presence and way better on faceoffs than Bolland.

Bolland is hot property in the NHL from what I hear...

How about.... move Bolland for a top 4 d-man and get Gaustad to take Bolland's place as L3-Center.

I would never suggest that....I'm glad you can't see the expression on my face right now, I'm a lousy poker player.

That is a concern, but they need to choose one path or the other. Either make a deal or two to improve the current roster, or make a deal or two to improve the future roster.

Then again, I guess they could do virtually nothing and just wait for the prospects to develop. Wake me when that strategy pays dividends.

Can't Ott just stay in town tonight? Then Stan could save money on airfare at least.

Defense can be improved with the following:

-stronger forecheck that creates problems for opposing teams d-men rushing (basically with no fear) from their zone to our zone

-reduction of Nick Leddy's minutes to BELOW 15 per game.

I PROMISE YOU that will improve the defense...how much is hard to say and the hawks may still be a first round bump, but that's one way to do it.

To get a top 4 d-man, you gotta trade someone of significant value.

You no doubt realize the vast sprawl of suburban Chicago. So yeah, the storm and sanitary systems are mostly separate, although not really in Chicago proper where they are still mixed. Lake Michigan shoreline can get nasty after extreme rain events with sewage dumping.

The whole Chicago metro area could use an infrastructure upgrade.
