For you folks that can't get TSN in the States, Pierre Lebrun said tonight that the Hawks an Bruins are two teams showing interest in Sheldon Souray.

Well, now that Carter is all but done, here's some more grist for the mill. According to LeBrun on TSN tonight the 'hawks have interest in UFA Souray. More plausible in my mind.

I'm not sure how healthy or expensive.. it seems like he isn't defensively sound enough to get top minutes. I doubt he kills penalties...but

he's gotta help the power play, right?
he's tough enough
he's been humbled and would probably be eager to play in this town.

Based on what LA gave up, would anyone have been comfortable trading Nick Leddy, a 1st, and likely more to get Carter? Steep prices all around the league this season it seems, which simply means the Hawks will almost HAVE to overpay for someone. All that means is that they better make sure that someone is the RIGHT fit.

sure..i dont love carter or leddy. we traded cam barker for leddy. prospects are nice but carter's proven and he's another guy that would relish playin for a contender again

Absolutely.

Signed for 2 more seasons after this at a very reasonable $3.17 cap hit too.

Agreed.

Unless they see Stalberg as a cheap option.. With some additives of course.

That was a slow first. Need to start connecting on some passes and start dumping the puck in.

The scout probably lives in Toronto and is fighting with his wife. Going to Leaf games gets him out of the house.

LA & Columbus dealing would make a lot of sense. Two GMs feeling the pressure due to their respective teams' performance -- and one side trying to drive up the price on a contract they find unsavory & want to get rid of anyway.

I don't doubt the Hawks have been in on Carter, but definitely don't see them coming away with him. IMO, Columbus contacted the Hawks to help drive up the price a bit more.

I'd love to see the Hawks pick up a power forward or two (or simply PK-capable road graders)...if it can be done without creating more holes in the roster.

Why? He does nothing for the Hawks in my opinion. Hard to believe that Johnson and a pick were all that it took to get Carter. JJ said the Hawks made a fair offer, but if it wasn't better than that, then I'm not sure what Bowman is doing. I'm not broken hearted that they didn't get Carter, as I had concerns about his attitude, injuries and contract, but I'm beginning to wonder if the reason Bowman is unable to get a deal done is not because teams aren't willing to trade but more because he is overvaluing some of his players. There hasn't been a lot of deals, but in the ones that were made, I thought they were all pretty fair. I don't see one team fleecing another in a trade. Yeah, there might be some slight overpayment in some of these deals because it's a sellers market, but nothing that I thought was out of line. Still three days left, but I'm losing faith in Bowman being able to do anything to help this team this year.

Until realignment happens, they are still in our division. Higher price for us because of that?

You think LA overpaid? Jack Johnson is a good defenseman, but he's far from one of the league's elite and a conditional first round pick is a crap shoot at best. They are getting a 30 to 40 goal scorer who is probably gonna be playing his butt off now that he's out of Blue Jacket hell and reunited with his buddy Richards. We'll see how it plays out the rest of this season, but I think LA improved themselves with that deal.
