I'm certainly not saying to make a trade for the sake of making a trade. Make a trade or sighning to improve a team that has picked in the top five three years in a row! It ain't rocket science, he's a GM. Its his job - Cptmjl
its also his job to build a team for the future as well as the present. His stated goal has always been to be able to have a winning team basically forever, like the Red Wings have, the Flyers have, the Devils have.
They have done that by having a lot of homegrown guys plugged into their lineups, smart FA signings. The Red Wings and Devils make very few big time trades. |

well said.
I think however we can all agree that the Isles need to be more aggressive at upgrading roster, especially defensively this offseason and add some gritty 3rd or 4th line player(s) - Isles316
Eventually this team has to start giving up picks/prospects we as Islander fans have grwon accustomed to over valuing them bcs of our situation partly and the fact that we are "building through the draft". We have to start adding some good players not has beens and players that are past their prime. This has been going on for far too long |

I can go back and pick dates and signings and acquisitions but do I really have too? The guy has been sitting on his hands for years now. I get the whole rebuild thing but come on. This is not even a good argument/discussion. Its one sided(and not to your side )... - Cptmjl
ever think that owner might have something to do with it? |

I am not and never have said anything about "big time" trades. You guys are running with this! Make trades or sighnings that help your team. He has not done that. Barring Streit. The vets Snow has brought in have been horrible and I know you are aware of it. Just because he does nothing does not mean he is a good GM. I love the "stay the course" comments make on here. Does that mean do nothing to improve your team? |

I don't disagree with that, but it has to be the right time and player(s). They need 2 top 4 d-men. We all pretty much agree on that. If the Isles can't acquire them via free agency, then a trade would be the way to go. Signing 3 more bottom pairing defensemen along with hammer, streit and AMac (maybe dehaan and donovan make team) would surely set us up to have another horrid defense. Garth Snow needs to address that and they need a coach to wake up Okposo,Grabner and Bailey.
I think regardless of any other move, the Isles would be a playoff team with 3 legit defensemen, 2 of them top 4 on most teams . |

Could be? Don't say its your team and you have complete control then. It's on you if you do that, I'll never understand the blind commitment to Snow? The guys has not done a dman thing but draft in the top five for a few years and made some questionable moves through the draft as well. What has he done as Isles GM? We will once again not make the playoffs again in a league where it is actually hard to do so. How can any of you think he is doing a good job? |

In my opinion, major problem could be Wang.
Maybe bc he is losing about $20 mill a year, maybe Snow could only operate with a salary to reach the salary cap floor.
We have to stop believing what Snow an Wang say, it's all fodder to get our hopes up...
which is getting me |

What type of move do you mean? The one example I come up with is the trade Florida made for Brian Campbell. He could have been a great fit on the Island but I think he had a no trade clause.
Snow got creative and got exclusive rights to sign Ehrhoff but the guy didn't want to come here. He did try last year to trade and get creative.
I completely agree that this summer he can't just try, he needs to get 2 quality d-men here. Hopefully that can score. 13 goals from your defense 65 games in ain't cutting it |

He certainly isn't making money, but that number is b.s. He owns iceworks, the marriot next to the coliseum, gets the cable contract, now gets parking and concessions, the sound tigers, the bluefish all because of the Islanders.
Again, he IS losing money but that is an old school business man trick so you can write crap off and claim a bigger loss so you get money back. |

Come on, complete shots in the dark and you know it. I've said it before and I'll say it again if throw enough poop at all eventually something will stick. I'll give credit both players are good upgrades yet the team is in the same spot that it was the year before, the year before that, the year before that one, etc... This team cannot compete on a consistent basis. It does not have the players to do so. Every year its the same shat with next year is the playoffs and we are going to compete. How'd that turn out this year? What are you going to say next year when Snow does nothing, picks in the top five again, and signs a few retread has beens with nothing left in the tank? Its the GM's job to bring in the players to make a team competitive, no matter what anyone says or what excuses people on here make he is not doing that. |

It's not even the payroll of the team, it's the fact that you come out 4 years ago and want to do a rebuild. Cool. I'm with you. But then you skimp out on player development and help in the front office. They do have a poop load of scouts but I would think they would have a top of the line player developer which I believe they don't. They poop canned Jankowski and gave Snow no replacement.
Look at Nashville. Team has the same pay roll as us but has quality hockey people in all facets of orginization |

Thre are more holes in this team than that. These guys are a bunch of figure skaters and get their asses kicked night in and night out. I'm sick of the "its Wangs fault notion" . Some blame has to rest in Snow's lap, he is the GM. Yu're going to be waiting a long time for two top four Dman signings. Snow's track record says it all |

Disagree. Ask Kings fans about Moulson. They are still pissed. He got run out of town because of how he looks and because he is a bit doofy. He started the year before we signed him on the first line with Kopitar so someone in LA saw the same thing. He had one bad game and was sent down for the year.
P.A. was lighting up the AHL for years and was decent when he got chances in the NHL. They were under the radar signings.
You want to give crap to Snow, I get it. The team still stinks. But in fairness, you can't say the good things he has done were all luck either. That's not fair. |

Again, I agree with you on those holes. I still give Snow this offseason to improve this team. Someone said it before, they were essentially an expansion team when he took over and started the rebuild.
If we are having this conversation in October and we might be, I will be 100% on board with you.
I just don't see how Snow can sit through this offseason and do nothing again. If I am wrong, then I'll admit it and we can go to games together and look for him. |

He got run out of town bcs he looked goofy? Never heard that! Thats awesome, I'll have to look at the rest of LA's players to see if they are camera friendly? Snow has done some good but the negatives far out weigh the positives. Yes, we have a better prospect pool. Thats good, great even after what Milbury did. Anyone can draft where we've been. There is more to a GM's job then icing a shatty team and picking in the top five and giving players from other teams farm teams a chance. He has not done much else if anything and you know it. He needs to sign some good players. I'm not an idiot, I'm not saying Weber and Suter. Sign an impact player or trade for one. We are way past due. Keeping Capuano when he is not a capable coach, Rolston, not sending him down, etc. destroyed what was supposed to be a playoff year according to Snow. When is there some acountability? |

let me clarify, he definitely can come across as someone that isn't driven or who doesn't care. Kings took his personality as that. It was a wrong assessment obviously. |

These are two things I agree with you on. The Isles 2nd half play last year was actually a bad thing. It masked real issues. Albeit Grabner, Comeau excelled under Capuano last year.
The Rolston thing is still puzzling. At least Snow pulled the trigger eventually. |

OK, so you're saying you were expecting Mike Mottau, Brian Rolston, Jay Pandolfo to do well and succeed? The only one who you can argue about is Reasoner bcs he was a more consistent player before hand, those guys were done by all accounts before sighning here. Besides Streit name me one sighning where he improved the team and don't mention the "throwing shat at the wall" players and "see if it sticks" who we all know were shots in the dark like Moulson and Paranteu. The guy has top start improving this team, HE has not done that and you know it! - Cptmjl
I wasn't expecting them to light up the league, but i expected more out of those 3 vets, yes.
Staios, Jurcina, Streit, Hillen, Konopka, Roloson, Comrie, Guerin, Vasicek to name a few not named Moulson or PAP
