You can't necessarily use the projection of the current standings as a barrier, because with that type of point system, you'd probably see teams change strategies, be more aggressive so as to not get to overtime, etc. |

So not too many changes worth noting, might as well keep it as is. |

That doesn't really seem to change much. If you really wanted to make a difference, you would make every game worth 2 or 0 points, but then you'd have to have continuous OT. There's no perfect system. |

I like the current system and see no reason to change it.
YOU DO NOT GET POINTS FOR A LOSS.
The game ends in a tie, and teams battle for an extra point. |

Get rid of the skills competition and go back to the way it was before... 2 pts win, 1 pt for a draw, 0 for losing as it should be.

And why do they deserve to battle for an extra point? Because they tied? So it's better to tie. And we get boring ass hockey.
Your logic fails.

no (frank)ing 3 points for any win, keep a win at 2, change SO to 1 and a SO loss to 0 and OT loss 0, OT win 2 |

If you wanna get rid of the loser point you need to alter the overtime system. Can't be sudden death IMO, make it 10 minute period, keep going after goals. Then call it a tie after that. Idk maybe that'd fly. |

No...the one blessing that has come from the shootout is that the tie is gone. Ties are absurd. A "skills competition" beats the prospect of a tie any day of the week.

OK I actually looked at it. Why would you NOT get 3 points for a win in OT??? thats just retarded. - muffin_man
agreed
how hard is it to understand
2 = win
1 = shootout win
0 = loss |

No, ties are boring.. shootouts for an extra point add excitement and a different element to the game that i dont think people realize. Players are valuable now cause of their shootout abilities, i.e. Brad Boyes looks god awful on the ice this year but is very valuable in the shooutout |

I hate the current point system but going back to that system would be a step backwards IMO. |

Keep it as is or;
Regulation win 3 points loss 1 point
Overtime win 2 points loss 0 points
Shutout win 1 point loss 0 points
Change OT to 8 mins of 4 on 4 and 4 min of 3 on 3.
Or keep it as is but make shootout win 1 point and no point for an OT loss.
Or just keep it as is.
