Confidence is part of it for sure, but the team has also made some defensive adjustments and Bryzgalov is cutting down the angles better. - bmeltzer
It's so weird. He played like he didn't care for awhile. Now he seems to be just ridiculous. He is standing tall. Playing atop his crease more. I'm pretty sure he is playing the puck more. And, I maybe mistaken, but it looks to me that he is fighting for his space more. I could have sworn I have seen a few more hacks and pushes from him getting guys out of his house. |

I was very happy having him on the team the last few yrs, esp in the playoffs so I am very willing to see how this season plays out - nastyflyergirl
I'm not bashing him as a player the issue of contracts was brought up and no matter what you are going to say, he is overpaid and thus I have a problem with that contract. For what he does he should only be getting half of that cap hit. |

I don't think he ever played like he didn't care. I think he played like he was shellshocked imo, which stems from the terrible defensive play in front of him. Once that got better he turned his game around. Defense and goaltending are symbiotic. |

I think it was far more then just the defense in front of him. Bryzgalov himself contributed to his poor play, and was far more responsible for how he played for most of the Season then the defense in front of him was. He had difficulty with even the simplest of routine saves at times. He was full of holes. Other things contributed such as the the pressure, adjusting to a new team, etc. But Bryzgalov bears the responsibility for his early play. |

again he can't just mail it in all year then turn it on in the playoffs being the highest paid player on the team in a salary cap era. He can get 15 goals and 20 assists in this playoffs I don't care, I want out of that contract. |

I see what youre saying. The issue is he was brought in to help rebuild this team and the way to get him here was pay him big bucks. It was a necessity to get this team in the right direction, like kimmo's contract and at the time, hartnells too (which looks like a bargain now) |

If the Flyers win the Stanley Cup this year, no one will care who makes what.

For most of the season he actually played well. It was the 7 or 8 bad games that did him in. Goalies will have bad games, even Lundqvist has had about 4 or 5 bad games this year. If Bryz was so liable for that mess why did Homer go out and get two defenseman and not an insurance policy in net? There were goalies available. |

No they won't until next year Exhibit A the Philadelphia Phillies. I hear people going on and on about what those guys make and there's no real cap in Baseball. |

I understand all that I just want out if a mechanism is provided. His second line center replacement is awaiting in the wings too. |

I think losing #20 had more to do with that than the goaltending. |

Yea and losing 20 compounded the situation in net which goes back to my original point. |

He was horrendous. You could see it just by watching him. He had no confidence, wasn't seeing the puck, wasn't moving laterally as well as he is now. |

He was horrendously inconsistent... He would have 2 average games and follow it up with something out of a goalies horror story..
I think the biggest problem was that when he wasnt playing horrible, he wasnt great either. |

I've listed his numbers in wins and losses several times in here and broke down his games where he allowed 2 or fewer goals. I'm not doing it again but if you go and do it you will see from November to mid December he played really well. Before that he played good the first couple weeks of the season. You want to tell me he looked bad all year fine go ahead and exaggerate. I said from the beginning he wasn't getting all the support you need to give any goalie. Did he play bad at times sure, that's why I said 7 or 8 games where really awful outings by him, I'll even be willing to go up to 10 games. But I'll also tell you even the best of goalies will have at least 5 bad games through the course of a season. |

Looking at his monthly statistical break down... October and December were his only truly bad months... |
