But that's okay if the guy scores in the playoffs did I miss something? - JoeRussomanno
You conveniently avoid the fact that Gomez doesn't produce to a level even close to Brière. |

So Briere is the opposite of Jeff Carter when he was here. People blasted Carter (including myself) who averaged 35 goals a game during the regular season but didnt produce in the playoffs (for whateva reason). What good is that when you cant get it done when it matters most? Goes both ways imo.
I completely understand that you feel like Briere hasnt lived up to his contract. I'm not going to change your mind on that. For that type of money your expecting 40 goals and 80 points (at minimum). |

Briere has 258 points in 323 games as a flyer in the regular season or .8 points a game. In the playoffs he has 59 points in 57 games.
Yeah, he's worth it. |

Isn't he also "mentoring" the younger guys like Giroux and more recently Couturier by having them live with him and poop like that?

Problem with all that is Carter can still mature into a dominant playoff point producer. I doubt it but still. Also no I would like 70 point minimum a season |

Briere is a pure scorer that's it. Gomez brings other aspects to the table like this thing called checking but we conveniently forget that. However Gomez has never been a big goal scorer yet he does find ways to produce points in the playoffs. 99 points in 140 playoff games as a mostly defensive forward isn't too shabby either. |

He's basically a point per game player in the regular season and over a point per game in the playoffs. You don't think that's a good player to keep around? You may still want to shed that salary, but you can't deny his success and contributions to the team. He's done it consistently. |

So would you rather Gomez at 7.3 over Briere at 6.5? |

Nope second year. The second year he was big in the playoffs so he got a pass.
Ok so what I've learned today is a player can do jack squat all year as long as his team gets into the playoffs then he can perform. Got it. - JoeRussomanno
Briere's second season here was injury riddled; he only played in 29 games - yet was still on a 30+ goal pace.
As I stated before, Briere is an exceptional playoff player. A player who plays better when it counts, which is exceedingly rare.
His career PPG in the playoffs is .99 - good for 36th all-time in the history of the league. With the Flyers, he produces at a 1.04 clip, which would be good for 26th all-time - right behind stiffs Phil Esposito and Guy Lafleur. |

Oh, stop. The guy's obviously a stiff. The only reason Couturier is staying with Briere is Flyers' brass hopes that Briere will somehow become infused with Couts' defensive responsibility.

the one playoff season where carter was actually healthy (08), he produced at the exact same rate he did during the regular season. just sayin'...
