What good does a high draft pick do the Penguins? So they can try and draft somebody like Staal again? They already have him. - Gunner Staal
No, to draft the next Crosby or Flower... that is much cheaper. |

"With only kaleta & ennis needing re-signing....
I'd say we are in good shape"
Yeah we have a few million for next year but in 13-14 we have Hodgson to resign, RR and Leo will be up, so we'll have to spend on 2 top 4 D and a possible 1B Center.
Unless you think, Myers, Ehrhoff, Sulzer and McNabb are your top 4 D.3
When the team was healthy... yeah look how long that lasted, 2 guys went down in the end and they fell apart.
Roy is a cancer, his interview today showed that 100%. Anyone who can't see that just hates Lindy to much to be objective. - Chipd
That's how I see it. It's like he's trying to pass off blame for his incredible shortcomings this year. He was counted on to be a huge part of this team and was incredibly ineffective. He had plenty of opportunities to succeed, but he failed miserably.

we shouldn't need to bring in any top 4 d men, we have a plethora of D prospects in the pipeline, also a good reason not to sign Sulzer
Mcnabb and Brennen will be ready next season - billyk
I'd sign Sulzer and get ride of Weber... I don't see Brennen playing on the team next year, McNabb will be the 7th.

As I said before, 44 points in 80 games... TC had 37 in 70.
Not to mention he played a big part of the year with 29 and 26... our to highest goal getters! |

Keep you eyes open for when Jason Botterill moves on from the the Penguins. - Gunner Staal
I know they talked about him when Pegula bought the team
Shero (like any good Gm) knows what his team needs and when they need it and he isn't afarid to make a deal
Darcy seems very out of touch with the needs of the team and is afraid to make a deal that isn't a winner for him
Lindy Ruff has the 2nd highest playoff winning percentage of active coaches who have coached over 50 playoff games
Darcy has drafted badly (1st round) and made bad trades at the deadline
Darcy, you are the weakest link, goodbye |

I agree with this. Sulzer was def a pleasant surprise and I'd be surprised (and disappointed) if they don't resign him |

A lot of times we fall victim to the "authority is always right" sentimentality. It is why we defend Ruff for a decade and a half while dismissing the players as "soft" or "cancerous".
We also completely fall in love with anyone who is perceived as "gritty", and this leads us to totally overlook his faults, whether they are on the ice, or in the coaching position. Ruff was a "gritty" player, so it follows that any player that fails in his system, must lack grit. Same reason teams keep hiring the Sutter brothers to coach, despite a history of failure in that capacity.
I just think that, after 14 years, it is time to consider that Ruff, despite his "grittiness", might actually suck as an NHL coach. Or might have at least worn out his welcome here. |

I'd like Don Luce, but he does lack GM experience. |

we will see Brennen is a late starter, and has done exceptional well in the 2nd year each time he has moved up a division |

I'd like another physical presence, then again, I'd like more of that throughout our lineup. |

That will depend on how bad a team wants a top pick-
Another sport, but look at what the Rams got from WSH for their #2. - Purple Eagle
Of course I can't be sure what it'd cost,
But we can likely get Galchenyuk at #5 and I think that'd cost less than getting a proven NHLer like u want |

Hughson does play-by-play for the primetime game, usually. Mark Lee does play by play for the 2nd, less important game. |

Well with the number of hurt players we get, he'd be playing by game 35! |

if you think the team can win it all next season you go big and try to land a proven guy
if you think they are probably 2 + years away you move up and get Galchenyuk
personally I think they should move up and get Galchenyuk

We might not NEED a top4 D-man,
But counting on BoTH McNabb AND Brennan to be ready to fill those roles after next season is pretty risky
If we were to get suter (for example) then u can pair him with Myers...
And next year McNabb moves up to take regehr's spot with ehrhoff
That puts Brennan on the 3rd pair with weber or a re-signed Regehr at a cheaper price... Or maybe bring back Leopold or pysyk could be ready by then
I'd feel much more comfortable with another solid vet in the top4 though
And with Regehr on the decline & Leopold average (at best) defensively,
I actually think we do need another top4 guy in the next year or two |

Good point
The Sabres are thinking "win now" I'm sure
So maybe they do go after a "getzlaf" type if available
I want Galchenyuk badly
We do have enough possible trading pieces to do BOTH though
That why this offseason could be very interesting
I doubt we only make ONE move
It's likely we make multiple moves
I'm interested to see if we target a goalie with that late 1st we got from Nashville
Miller isn't getting any younger |

Hodgson has a ways to go to proove he is a legitmate #1 or #2. 8 points, -7 in @0 games. He played on the #1 pp.
The potential is there but he needs to skate better and produce more consistently with 18 minutes a night |
