So, call me a stupid Canadian but I think that Ryan Smyth is the exact type of player that Buffalo needs on their roster. Even crazier yet I think he's worth $3.5M per for 2 years.
This team would have looked a lot differently if they had a Arnott/Langenbrunner/Smyth type of player in their lineup. - Pairo11
I was pushing for Arnott all summer. It made too much sense, but given the comments this morning about Ruff not wanting a strong leader, I'm beginning to see why he wasn't considered. |

Wonder if Ben Eager would be a good pickup on the cheap?

how long did it take karlsson to become the best all around d man in the nhl? - homiedclown
He was a nightmare last year, wonder where he goes next year?
IMO Myers is the best young defensemen we have in our system and its not that close but thats just me.

The concept isn't that crazy. For one the Sabres need some kind of value player on the roster. We don't get bang for the buck out of any contract except the youngest guys.
They also desperately need to shake up the complacency of the Slug era "core" that wallows in mediocrity. |

I'd like a lot more productive player. Also, for his size he's not that physical of a player. He was drafted as a player that would run defensemen through the end boards. He still hasn't played an injury free season yet. |

I wanted Arnott 3 years ago. Smyth would be perfect right now. Still has a few years left, productive, a leader.
Problem is that he a WC guy and loves (gulp) Edmonton. |

I'd still rather have Arnott because he's won a cup before. I want guys that have done it, and know what it takes to get it done. |

He's less productive and a little older. I like him but I like Smyth more. |

He would probably retire before leaving Edmonton.

For criticizing Lindy Ruff, Roy just earned more respect from me than I have given him in years.
How can we properly evaluate just about anyone on this team until there is a coaching change? I have been saying this for years - Ruff is a below average coach who lucked into a great situation with Buffalo upon being hired. He then lucked out by having two consecutive owners who did not care enough about the franchise to make changes. Before you know it, he has been here for over a decade and is now an institution in Buffalo.
His teams consistently underachieve. His defense is consistently error-prone. His powerplay consistently is terrible, no matter who is on it.
Fire Darcy and Ruff immediately. Enough with the annual excuses. If these guys wore a few championship rings, I would be a little more willing to listen to excuses. |

karlsson is a +16 on a team that only scored 9 more goals then they allowed
hardly lacking in the d department - homiedclown
Using +/- as an argument is a joke. He's exceptional offensively, but mediocre defensively. Chara/Weber/Lidstrom are the best all around dmen. They bring quality offense and shut down the opposition.
Edit: that being said, I'm not happy with where Myers is at, he needs to be better. |

Roy was probably right in his assessment. However, I really hope that punches his ticket out of town as well. |

Actually +/- isn't that bad in relation to the teams overall goal differential if you strip out the PP and PP against from the overall numbers.

I have no problem with dealing Roy either. But I am really hoping that his criticism of the usually infallible Lindy Ruff starts a conversation in this town that finally convinces a Sabres owner to consider parting with the guy.
Here is where Pegula can really make a difference. We have an owner willing to spend ridiculous money in a city that is crazy for hockey, and which would make a god out of the first person to coach the team to a Stanley Cup. If he fires Ruff, there should be a line of interested candidates lining up around the arena. |

Make that 3 consecutive owners... Pegula is a Hockey Dunce who is married to Darcy and Ruff..........

Really, four, if you count the Knox family, who still owned the team when Ruff was hired.
I didn't include Pegula because I believe that he cares. Being suckered by Darcy and Lindy doesn't mean that he doesn't care - just that he is gullible. |

If we ship out part of the core, I'd push for trading for Iginla. I know he's doesn't have a whole lot left and his cap hit is not the most favorable, but he is someone I want around the youth coming up. He's also the type of winger this team has needed for years. |

His injury could be a full two year recovery. Not so sure we can get much out of him.
