Keith didn't jump, leave his feet and wasn't coming at him full force when the hit happened. That right there is a huge huge difference in the hit.
- CaptainBlackhawk

Sure its a difference in the hit itself but both plays are disgusting and have no place in hockey. The hits should not be compared nor should they be condoned. Both are perfect examples of what is wrong with hockey today.

After reading some of the posts on this topic, I have never seen such blatant homerism in my life. After watching the hit a bunch of times, I've changed my opinion on it. It's a tad late and he does launch himself upwards. However, justifying Keith's hit and subsequent short suspension by saying Daniel "hit him first" is disgusting.

I remember JJ saying in his blog that Keith would maybe get 1 or 2 games, most Hawk fans agreed. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, Torres should be lethally injected.

The only thing different between the two hits was that Hossa left on a stretcher. Hopefully he's ok.

- hertzman

Most wanted 1-2 games, but not much crying when he got 5 games. No one was justifying anything with Keith, he deserved what he got. I don't blame him for what he did. How long are you going to cry about this?

Anyone want to speculate as to why Torres would want to defer to Friday?
- Anaarkey

Maybe to let things calm down a lil bit. There's a lot of uproar right now and attention on Shannyban and Betty so maybe they fear they'll overreact to pressure.

No NIMROD the difference between the 2 hits is that Daniel hit Keith in the face with his shoulder 6 minutes prior to Keith exacting revenge. Yes it was a bad it , yes suspendable , but it was in retaliation and was an elbow.

Torres , flying leaped into Hossa's head. Big difference pal , at least the Canucks got a 5 minute power play , the Hawks ended up shorthanded.

And might have cost the Hawks this series...

You are right, because Keith and Torres are the same player...

Yes, you are correct. I blame the fact that I am on the East Coast, watching a later game and the Hossa hit and the GWG made me so sick I couldn't sleep.

I also blame the man with one arm.

The fact that the NHLPA is involved and Raffi voluntarily deferred the hearing makes me think this could be the BIG one people have been talking about. If the NHLPA is involved directly with the hearing they may think this ruling may affect torres and his right to his profession.

Lets just hope the the department of PLAYER safety finally decided to do its job, stand up tot he union and really set a tone. If the instigator rule is here to stay and third man in's are being called and the league really wants to water down fighting to a staged act only between tough guys, then DO YOUR JOB and protect the players like the enforcers used to. Torres has done this over and over and over with almost complete immunity throw the effing book at him.

I'll also add this that was the first time Keith really did something like that and I think everyone deserves a break or two (raffi got many) BUT if Keith effs it up again and losses his cool burn his ass also. Heres the underlined shout from the top of a mountain STOP HITTING PEOPLE IN THE EFFING HEAD.

I'm gonna get flamed hard for this but What Torres did isn't nearly as bad as the other stuff in the playoffs this year. The hit looked pretty clean besides the fact that he left his feet "I love real hard hits!".

The asham and weber stuff was much much worse and that's the stuff that needs to be eliminated from hockey.

I wan't Chicago to win and it stinks that it took out a important piece but if that was keith doing that to one of there guys you guys would have been like nice friggin hit!

It SHOULD affect his profession. The guy has continued to play this way.. fines, suspensions don't seem to matter. At some point the NHL has to remove the player who is doing this - it's that's simple. He has an obvious disregard for player safety and playing within the bounds of safety.

I hate agreeing with a Canucks fan, but I do. Whole-heartedly. The fact that Keith's heinous elbow was retaliation doesn't make it better. It makes it pre-meditated. It was a blatant example of intent to injure, and doesn't belong in the game at all. Torres' hit was also dirty, and is exactly the type of hit that the new rules are designed to remove. He has a history of cheap shots, and as such I'd like to see a 10 game suspension or more... but there is no justifying Keith's elbow.

JJ especially... Hold yourself to a higher standard. That's embarrassing.

Raffi Torres suspended indefinetly until his in person meeting Friday.

Most people are talking double digits suspension.

>You can be sure the NHLPA will be crying to limit his sentence

I agree but the NHLPA will fight for torres because thats what they are there for.

And you are missing my point and that was IF the NHLPA is directly involved it may mean they are expecting something big from the NHL.

The difference is simple..

Keith's Elbow was run into by Sedin's head..
Hossa Chin was run into by Torres Elbow as he left his feet.

Keith's play was a good hockey play... And Sedin is just a baby... and milking it
Hossa was blindsided, and might have nerve damage..

Do you see the difference?

So Keith's hit was premeditated? He actually sought out Daniel Sedin and went after his head? That clearly makes it even worse.

Saad is "Black Aces"ing it up at practice. If he plays he needs to be good on the Hawks side of the center line. We'll see.

But show me another professional sport that is as fast and complex as hockey. I'm not try to justify the brutal reffing but having done so myself (even at a Pee Wee level), its tough.

Torres should be gone for the playoffs-even if to say enough is enough to the rest of the league.... He's a repeat offender and maybe the long term suspension would finally get the message to all the teams that the bs will no longer be acceptable.

Oh c'mon....then invest and train refs to deal with the complexities and speed of the game!! Require and demand high competency levels!
