With Torres past history he should get no less then 10 games. That won't happen but it should

I will tell you, and it might not come as a total surprise, this was escalated to Bettman last night.

And there are going to be serious consequences, if not now, then later.

Agreed.

There's no justifying that hit. He's turned his direction to come straight at Hossa and planted a clearly late hit with no intention of avoiding him. At least 10 games if Shanny decides to do what's right.

So yeah, you're probably right...he'll get a $2,500 fine.

The funny thing about all this...I hated Scott Stevens for every second of his career...called him dirty and that he didn't belong in the NHL with those hits.

I got yelled at, called various names and that I "clearly don't understand hockey if you think those hits are dirty"

And yet here we are, years later and if Stevens was in this league he'd have been suspended so many times he'd have been kicked out and/or would just be another Matt Cooke and a waste of a good defenseman.

I was rooting for Phoenix to win the series but every time I see Torres on the ice it's hard to root for the underdogs. I really hope Shanny bans him for at least the remainder of the playoffs or even a Burtuzzi type ban. Classless piece of fetus.

How do four on-ice officials miss this? Especially when one of the linesmen literally has to move out of the way of the play as it's happening so Hossa doesn't fall on him.

Torres is a worthless piece of crap.

As are the officials hired to monitor this great game.

Either you are trollling or there is no point in even engaging you on this. Get up to speed on the series.

It's sad to see a guy like Shanahan, who is clearly a good hockey guy, get so lost in this job.

He's over his head and some people could see that from day one. The unpredictability of his supplemental discipline system makes me yearn for Colin Campbell.

Refs had no problem with 6 skaters on the ice this series too for a Coyotes goal but that doesn't make it legit

My guess... the wheel of suspensions lands on five games.
Just a guess though; as there is no consistensy!

I thought the Shaw suspension was right on.

That said... Raffi Torres deserves a very long ban. That hit was very dangerous. And he has a rap sheet a mile long.

There also needs to be some consequences for refs who allow this nonsense. This hit is a perfect example, and there have been plenty of other examples as well during this year's playoffs, where the refs missed an obvious chance to set an example. If they're not going to let the players police themselves, the refs are responsible for doing it... SOMETHING has got to give.

Can Shanahan fumble the ball on this one too? He needs to make a strong statement right now and give Torres a severe suspension and IF he is smart state that the NHL has a zero tolerance for the garbage we've seen in the playoffs and put the teams on notice that suspensions going forward in the playoffs could be for the rest of the playoffs.

How's this for suspension guidelines:

Minimum: As determined by a quorum of team-chosen representatives from all but the two teams involved in the incident; taking history, intent to injure, severity, etc into account.

Pending after initial decision: Match the injured player's games missed up to a season.

Not trolling and I think there definitely should be a suspension but I don't see this hit as being as bad as the Keith elbow.
