Not trolling and I think there definitely should be a suspension but I don't see this hit as being as bad as the Keith elbow. - Cfser
No you're right - Sedin plowed into Keith's head.. Keith retaliated.
Unprevoked, Raffi Torres took a running start, left his skates plowed his shoulder into Hossa's jaw. You're right - completely different.. this was monumentally worse.
Funny, you say Keith got a penalty? Ya a 2 min penalty that was a complete joke. He should of had 5 and a game, so the refs blew that one too. Not only that, but Keith got a nice 5 game rest before the playoffs started while Daniel sat at home for a month with headaches. Hit was dirty and late, but join the club.
My Hawk hate aside, what's funny about all these incidents is the players and coaches of the victim are all outraged and the players and coaches of the offending team claim "I haven't seen the hit". Hypocrites.
It's the players doing these things to each other. Not Shanahan or Bettman. Players have already proved that suspensions don't deter them. If they don't care about each others safety why should fans give a sh!t
I think Torres gets the book thrown at him. Multiple repeat offender.
Now, can I implore you guys to lay off the Shaw suspension? Not withstanding the 3 games or the Smith flopping, that too was a cheap shot. - Bud[/quote]
Cheap or no, there is almost universal condemnation of the 3-game suspension, and that is the point.
Was Weber's face plant on Zetterberg cheap? Was he suspended?
career ending? i know you're pissed but stay objective. that said, this should be a major suspension, but let's see what shanny comes up with this time. if neal only gets 1, and that 1 wasn't even due to the hit that was very similar torres (except coots wasnt injured), I have no idea what to expect here.
Shannahan is a complete idiot. Everyone that has ever played with and against him, cant stand him. He is useless. The league is so messed up that they took a man who slept with his team mates wife (Craig Janney) and then married her. He is so lost in that job and in his life.. There is ZERO consistantcy in the manner things are being dealt with.
Torress did this to Doug Weight in the 2006 Stanley cup, Seabrook last year and now Hossa.
What needs to happen to get someone banned or 10 plus games??
The hit wasnt the only call missed last night. Clearly the officiating has been bad in every game in these playoffs but last night the game got away from the refs and they had no answer for it. The Coyotes were constantly clutching, grabbing, holding sticks and face washing after every whistle. The refs want to protect the goalie yet Crawford gets interfered with and there is no call, than at the end of the second period Smith goes after sharp behind the play with a stick to the face...so we have to protect some of the goalies and they can do as they please with no punishment. the whole incident at the end of the second was a joke, you have kane getting punched in the face, sharp getting hit by a goalie stick and all hell breaks loose and the only penalty goes to toews . The refs could have sent a message much sooner by dishing out off setting penaties earlier in the game but instead let it become a goon fest.
How do four on-ice officials miss this? Especially when one of the linesmen literally has to move out of the way of the play as it's happening so Hossa doesn't fall on him.
Torres is a worthless piece of crap.
As are the officials hired to monitor this great game. - bcallaway
Oh and catch this fraudulent spin from the NHL: The NHL situation room said no call was made on Torres hit on Hossa because it "went unseen" by the officials on the ice--Stephen Walkom, Ian Walsh, Brad Lazarowich and Jonny Murray.
One linesman was 10 feet away looking right at the play. Didn't Hossa just play the puck? Arn't the zebra's following the puck? The linesman reacted to Hossa hit when he saw the hit that he didn't actually see!!
Nice try NHL situation to spin this one....you are as incompetent as the refs, Shammyhan and the rest of the NHL hypocrits.....brutal just brutal!

You're right.
It should be Feet left the ice , you dont actually leave your feet ! I love the grammar police ! - mrpaulish
Sorry, I'm never a grammar guy...but that one is just funny. Someone pointed it out to me a while ago and now whenever I hear it, it's like a flashing light of "doesn't actually make sense".

Whoa, easy there big fella.
Never mind, I'm not gonna bother discussing it if people can't debate calmly.
Minimum: As determined by a quorum of team-chosen representatives from all but the two teams involved in the incident; taking history, intent to injure, severity, etc into account.
Pending after initial decision: Match the injured player's games missed up to a season. - busmaster
The NHL can use instant replay to determine a goal so why can't the "War Room" let the refs know they missed a blatant cheap shot so the questionable hit can be penalized in the game.
And trolling is a part of Hockeybuzz unfortunately.
But the good thing is we can ban the trolls. - Juice
I'm not trying to troll, but i'm a bit tired of EVERY aggressive play going through the wringer now. If you guys want payback, someone should go fight torres, thats how hockey is/was played

Your argument is duly noted, but consider the contextual argument I put forth in the blog.
Did Hossa hit Torres (late and to the chin) just prior (as Daniel did to Keith—whether you want to admit it or not)?
Had league discipline utterly screwed the Canucks earlier the same day?
No and no.
The Hawks could have lost ALL 5 games Keith was suspended and missed the playoffs.
