My Hawk hate aside, what's funny about all these incidents is the players and coaches of the victim are all outraged and the players and coaches of the offending team claim "I haven't seen the hit". Hypocrites.
It's the players doing these things to each other. Not Shanahan or Bettman. Players have already proved that suspensions don't deter them. If they don't care about each others safety why should fans give a sh!t - stuckey
The see no evil Coyotes claimed the 5th. Tippett claimed he has to see the video...looked ok to him. Doan or Vrbada gets run like that....I suspect their vision would have been lazer sharp 20/20. |

Whoa, easy there big fella.
Never mind, I'm not gonna bother discussing it if people can't debate calmly. - Cfser
I am 100% calm....
Torres took a running start, jumped and plowed his shoulder into Hossa's head. Completely different plays and one was monumentally more dirty than the other. |

Now, can I implore you guys to lay off the Shaw suspension? Not withstanding the 3 games or the Smith flopping, that too was a cheap shot. - John Jaeckel[/quote]
Cheap or no, there is almost universal condemnation of the 3-game suspension, and that is the point.
Was Weber's face plant on Zetterberg cheap? Was he suspended?
Context, pal.
There was only condemnation coming from Chicago.
Personally, I find plowing your shoulder or elbow or stick into someones head a little more dangerous that pushing someone with one hand. I would have given Weber a game. Shaw deserved the three. |

I'm not trying to troll, but i'm a bit tired of EVERY aggressive play going through the wringer now. If you guys want payback, someone should go fight torres, thats how hockey is/was played - cnugget99

Call me a homer, but I simply don't understand how 4 officials could stand by and watch a player get carted off on a stretcher. And they had plenty of time watching this. And NOT call at least a 2 minute penalty. So let’s try and think about the 4 officials and their conversations while the player is being strapped to the stretcher, seemingly unconscious with his eyes rolling back into his head.
Referees: Stephen Walkom, Ian Walsh
Linesman: Brad Lazarowich, Jonny Murray
“Ok guys now let’s realize that no matter what we call right now, Shanahan is going to make his own ruling. If we toss Torres, and there is no further penalty, than we look like stooges. If we don’t toss him, and he is suspended, we look like stooges. So we are screwed in all circumstances. So let’s just do nothing. And by the way, where are we going for dinner afterwards?”

Fighting Torres is inevitable. But he can't get away with hits like that.
Hitting is part of the game, but deliberate late hits to the head with your feet leaving the ice are not supposed to be part of the game...and that's why Torres should and will be suspended. |

It really doesn't matter what Shanahan says anymore. The "discipline" levied on Weber set the tone for the postseason and just made a joke of the whole player safety debate. Teams are just rolling the dice now. As a repeat repeat offender though, Torres should be sitting for a long time. |

Its clearly a deliberate shoulder to the head, initiates contact at the head, the players jumps to ensure contact at the head, recieving player taken off on a stretcher, the optics are bad, the result is bad, the player in question is a repeat offender... even the NHL can't screw this one up, can they? |

Can I ask a question from another point of view? First, I, like any reasonable person, thinks Torres should receive a long suspension and I thought Shea Weber should have sat a game. However, my question is, at what point does the players union have a responsibility to stand with the league in putting a stop to this? I only hear crickets chirping from the NHLPA. What are your thoughts?

You and I were watching different tape. His shoulder made contact, hard to tell if it was intentional. You are in the extreme minority on your assessment of the infraction and the punishment. |

I know Weber should have probably gotten a game for what he did, but Weber's actions are no where near any of these other hits JJ. While Weber's headlock/facesmash looked bad, there is no way he could have done half the damage that some of these hits are doing. This garbage about Zetterburg helmet being cracked in two places is complete BS. Weber had no momentum on the play. I have no doubt it hurt Z, but lets stop comparing that play to plays like the Torres/Hossa play. |

I'd say 40 games should drive the message home. What's this like his 3rd or 4th in the past year?
gotta stop some where
7 suspension in 2 monthes last season
8 in the first week of the playoffs with 3-4 that have been blown.
