Welcome to Shanny's NHL. Goodbye Order, Hello Chaos.
- HajdukChicago

I bet the NHL office is an ugly, stressful place to be today. They have to be bracing themselves for tonights Flyer-Pens game.

Very true. I don't like or agree with what Tippett said, but I understand the natural tendency to stand by your guy...even when he F's up.
- Ogilthorpe2

Well you have to take the comment in context as well. I mean if you can somewhat dodge or deflect the question, you don't really have to answer it. If you get asked straight up you have to say something. Torres is gonna get a healthy suspension. Seen the Torres hit this morning and thought he,s getting 6 games. Then I though of the whole hawks, Torres history. Then (and not trying to be a jerk with this) I thought, man the hawks should just sign Torres and get him away from hitting their players
I honestly have no idea of the lengths of suspenions anymore. The whole Philly/pens series of events, Keith, Weber who if you ask me should have gotten a ton of games. No consistantcy what so ever

John Jaeckel: What Now, Shanahan?
- John Jaeckel

Totally agree John

what would it take for these players to truly finally get the message?
Does someone need to be banned a full season for the message to get across?

That seems too harsh?
But what about the players having there seasons or careers cut short?

Eye for an eye?
Do we need the instigator rule back so players can police themselves again?
Many say thats too primitive, but primitive is what we are dealing with now

Can you find the clip? 'Cause that's not how I remember it at all. I'm as mad about the Keith hit as anyone (think he should be sitting the first round), but my recollection of the Sharp post game interview was that he as very honest about what happened, and without throwing his teammate under the bus, stressed player safety and mutual respect.

I became a Sharp fan after seeing that. Did we watch different interviews?

- snepts145

I tried to you tube it. I like sharp, I have a slight problem with his comments but that's the canucks fan in me. He,s just defending his mate.

Patrick Sharp is generally a boring interview when it comes to the game. Very politically correct, generally speaks in cliches...bland. I don't recall Sharp defending the Keith hit, just some bland comments about needing to see it again...probably no negative intent, will accept the league's ruling...blah blah blah.

Agreed. As stupid as it sounds the sit as long as the injured player or suspensionis 5 games or whatever but only starts when the injured player returns(indefinete until then) may be the best way. Now of coarse that can't be for everything. Just the obvious intent to injure stuff. Such as Asham, Torres, Keith, bertuzzi on Moore, March and etc

OK, this is getting out of hand.

I didn't post the video, and that's not what I want to see hapen. Quite frankly I'm sick of talking about it now. Agree or disagree, I don't care. I'm done with this topic.

sorry Ogil... I didn't think it would go on either...

I agree that guys have to be taught to respect each other. However there is some responsability the other way as well. Henri getting decked by brown or seabrook by Torres, and countless hard hits on savard. Clean hits, that guys have to learn to keep their heads up. Sometimes I think the thought among players is that guys can't hit them if they are vulnerable and they take advantage of that

I think one of the main things should be a players repeat attempts at injuring others.

...pretty banal, you're right. But I think it goes to my earlier point—this doesn't look like Sharp defending Kieth's actions to me.

I hate the depends if the guy is hurt crap. I mean shouldn't we stop the action before injury? The Weber on zetteberg one is a perfect example of such thing. I don't care if zetteberg skated down and scored a goal. Weber tried to baby hurt him and got nothing. Torres in an idiot. Or Neal clearly wanted to hurt somebody the other night and gets basically nothing

Are you sure he hasn't done something like this? Torres is pretty a pretty wild and crazy guy. He did the whole "blackface" thing for Halloween.

As Shanahan loves using the word: The onus in on Shanahan and Bettman to restore order and end the chaos. (not only speaking about the Hossa incident)

Uh uh, not worth the time to type 'em out.

I've posted a few comments about Leddy's game already, I'll leave it at that. Only 1 D man had a good game, that was #7. We don't score the 1st goal without Leddy's nice pass to Kane off the draw. Was even on the night and had a rough 3rd. Going with a 5 D rotation is a recipe for disaster, especially when a game goes to OT and you have 2 guys (2 and 7) that already have huge minutes.

- savvyone-1

The first goal was a nice set up.. and never said he wasn't a good player with puck or skating skills... He does it very well for a young def.

If you look at Coyotes 1 st goal Leddy was trying to find his stick in the coner somewhere instead of going the net to help out.

I just said he scared to go into the coner and he needs grow a set and become more physical... thats just my 2 cent

John,
First post here and I must say I really enjoy you blogs and all of the regulars who post on your blog...too many to name. I've learned alot.

Sadly, this may also be my last post. I thought all might be interested in what I posted in the feedback section on NHL.com I don't have the interest or heart to watch the playoff games tonight. I'm still sickened by last night. I hope and pray Hoss fully recovers.

Post to NHL>>

I am rarely compelled to make a comment but I am still angry and outraged (especially) by what happened last night but the playoffs in general. As a young man I grew up watching some of the great ones: Hull, Richard, Howe, Mikita to name a few. I quit watching the game when it became fighting rather than hockey a la "I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out". I starting watching 4-5 years ago and noticed the game had (mostly) changed back to the game of hockey. I became interested in the game again and starting watching and going to a few games. However, last night may have been the last straw. I am referring to the Hossa - Torres incident. Here you have one player (Hossa) that is everything that is right about the game of hockey and you have another player (Torres) that is everything that is wrong about the game of hockey. I'm sure I don't need to elaborate that point. So, which product is it going to be? If it is the later, then I will spend my precious time and hard earned entertainment money elsewhere.

Thats powerful. I dont have the ability to walk away from hockey. I think its impossible. Its the connection hockey bring to my dad my brother and me, its the old stadium's roar, i understand what you're saying but unfortunatley hockey has me by the balls. I fear there are millions like me and few like you.

We lose if we'd walk away - but we don't have to.

The casual fan may be on board this year - apparently ratings are way up - but THEY will walk away, and they're more important to the league than we are - they're at the margin driving the ratings - if they leave, ratings plummet.
