Don't know if anyone mentioned it but Torres tried to run Hossa in one of the games in Phoenix but Hossa side stepped him at the last minute. - jhawk159
2 years left on Crawford's deal at just a hair under $2.7 million. - EKolb13
crawford goes with them, i was just looking at it from vanc's standpoint. probably of the mindset; someone please take this contract, we got to get schnieder in there!
that is where the squeeze gillis's nuts come in: you take frolik, rusty o & cc, we'll take bobby lu!
told ya, he'd make the list of hated than loved once he put on the tomahawk.
bowman adds a thumper in back on D plus a guy like lu ??? i don't know. i think the guy, emotions and fandom aside is an elite goalie with a stupid contract which pputs even more pressure on him! but... he signed up for it so now honor it!
I dunno....why would they stick with what is not working - bogiedoc
His contract may keep him where he is. He's still has 10 years left on his deal. While his cap hit is reasonable now, he's 33 years old. realistically, Luongo might have 3-5 years of top teir preformance left in him before he really starts regressing. Also, his salary is $6.7 million through the '17-'18 season. Most small market clubs will not be willing to pay someone that kind of money. He's also got a no trade clause, so he would have to be willing to waive it, and thus Luongo can sort of control where he gets traded too.
Can you find me a positive as to why it's a smart idea for any team to try to make a deal to acquire him?

Ok, what really makes you think Gillis is just going to dump Luongo for Bowman's organizational garbage? Beyond that, who has a "squeeze" on Gillis? Seriously, if Gillis can't get anything of value for Luongo, he can easily flip Schnieder and get a haul for him in a trade. They've got Eddie Lack in the minors, and while he's not Schnieder, Lack is a far sight better than just about any other goalie the Hawks have in the organization.

Ok, if that's the case, what is Pittsburgh going to want in return for Staal? I can tell you right now, the price to trade for him isn't going to be cheap at all.

What will it take but Toews and and Staal will be nice down the middle.
But there is still a playoff sereies going on and we are already talking summer.

Gillis has a team at or just past the apex of its potential. Their time to win is now. If you don't trust Luongo, and Lack is anything but a proven commodity, how in the world can he flip Schneider?
BTW, hell no I would never want Lu on our team. Mental midget...
Your argument is duly noted, but consider the contextual argument I put forth in the blog.
Did Hossa hit Torres (late and to the chin) just prior (as Daniel did to Keith—whether you want to admit it or not)?
Had league discipline utterly screwed the Canucks earlier the same day?
No and no.
The Hawks could have lost ALL 5 games Keith was suspended and missed the playoffs. - John Jaeckel
Premeditation is actually grounds for more severe punishment....Keiths hit coulda ended up at the sheriffs office rather than Bettemans desk.....it comes full circle.....karma is a b!tch.....no shortage on hypocrites around here.

I see everyone talking (at length) about suspensions in this thread, but no one is really thinking outside the box on how you could punish a team for a dirty play within the game...
What about adopting the soccer red card rule where a team loses a player for the entire match after such a play? I know that removing one player from the ice in hockey (6 players including the goalie) is much different than soccer (11), but don't you think that would get player's / coach's attention?
Essentially I'm saying that the offending team would only be allowed 4 skaters on the ice for the entire game, after such a hit.
Even if you had to implement some kind of video review for that type of penalty, wouldn't it be worth it in the long run?
I bet 85% of the hits you all are talking about don't happen if this rule is in place. - rrhawk11
This.
I have been saying this all year. Punish the team in game. If the team loses a player or players in a game, ciaches and GMs willnot let bad actors (like Torres) play for very long.
I would also increase the monetary fines. $2500 is NOTHING to Shea Weber. $75,000 is.
