Waitaminut: are you guys really having an argument about the ball and chain security blanket that should have retired long ago and that was taking the spot of a another player who might emerge come playoff time if guys like peverley, lucic, seguin and horton happen to not show up in a series/the playoffs, a la Marchand who was around and key for the Cup run what was it, like a couple of years ago? Dress "just a depth guy" like Pangolfo instead of Marchand for most of that year and nose's vital playoff brillance likely doesn't happen. Just a shortsighted suggestion that wasting icetime or a roster spot is no big deal. That is all.

who was better stan? we've seen caron, spooner, bourque and macdermid.

who else are we missing? who's emergence has pandolfo gotten in the way of?

if you say so. caron's goal aside, he's been terrible. spooner? meh. not yet. who else? macdermid when he was here? what's the diff? Claude trusts and so does the front office guys that have experience in the league.

- Fountain-San

The "diff" is in having someone who is hungry on the ice as opposed to having someone who is tired.

And if Caron has been "terrible", then what the hell does that make Pandolfo???

If Caron has been "terrible", that pretty much puts Pandolfo in the coat hanger abortion category.

well, again, it won't likely be a concern in the post season.

maybe the goal last night will give caron a lift and he'll take this fricken job finally.

We might never know cause he got in the way, that's the whole point. You see these guys emerging in Ottawa now, getting their shot because of misfortune but nonetheless getting the opportunity to show something and performing?

We don't really know what's the real value of some of these guys in the NHL, save maybe for Bourque. Caron's 22, first rounder in 2009 and he's played 14 games this year. Yeah he's had games in before this year but sometimes these young guys emerge at the NHL level one year if you give them a sustained shot.

No, Pando it was. And for what? To put his whole line down a man every shift and be in perpetual PK mode? To never ever put on any semblance of offensive pressure? To suppress any possible offensive flow? To be 100% certain that his inclusion in the lineup in playoffs will be a nuisance? How freaking Pandolfo made it this long in the lineup is mindboggling.

You named some names, the real answer might very well be Sauve, Tardif, any other P-Bruin with a heartbeat really. MacD already did more in 9 minutes of icetime since the trade than Pangolfo has all year. Just need a timely contribution from one of these guys somewhere down the road once the real season starts. None of them can be expected to replicate Marchand's incredible 2011 playoffs but that one bit of real help in the postseason - something Pandolfo is no longer equiped to provide, that is painfully obvious - is all the team needs because as you point out, the bulk of the responsibility is rightly on the shoulders of others.

Caron had several good shifts yesterday. Had Brick highbeaming.

look pandolfo is done. like dinner. i get it. but no one, no one, has taken that job by the horns. gave caron and bourque both an opportunity to grab it after letting pouliot walk. did not happen.

is that fair?

Sure, that's fair. Certainly no one has been miles better ... and he does have pretty good PK stats which is likely where CJ sees his biggest value. Merely pointing out that there is 3rd party, non-biased, empirical evidence to suggest that Jay Pandolfo is significantly worse than any other player on the roster 5 on 5

We were waiting for that to happen with Bourque, and it didnt

Caron should be flipped in the offseason for another teams waste of a former first rounder to see if a change of scenery is beneficial.

Pandolfo is awful. Are you remembering him from his Hockey East days where he dominated and that's why you think he's ok? He's awful, even by veteran depth standards. Even by Claude short-leash-for-Seguin, but Looch and his streaky half retarded twin keep getting rolled out there...at least in Hortons case he seems to be warming up.

As much as we mock Soderberg, I hope he helps us out. Kelly coming back was great last night(ignoring that fact that Carolina is a rudderless ship)

The real question is Bergy. People keep saying "when he comes back" Nobody is asking an unfortunately "if"...and what shape he'll be in mentally.

Underachieving forwards

4 lines not clicking like that have in the past, especially the 3rd

Ference playing like poop, Z and Seidenberg making more mistakes than normal at bad time

Claude being Claude

Harvard didn't pick up a top 4 Defenseman at the deadline

Well at least the Yeti further bumps Pandgolfo out of the picture ... At least to start anyway

At very worst, he'll match Pandgolfo's torrid production stat line of 0-0-0 and -2

Cam was on 98.5 today

Said he projects to be a top 6 forward in the NHL

If it pans out, not bad for a deal we made back in 2007. Which is why you always have them throw in something else in a deal.

I'll trade you a pick and 2 guys for Jagr AND some 5th round draft pick from Boston College back in 2009. Never know when it might pay off.

Any guesses on the Yeti's cap hit?

I'm going to say it averages out to around 2.5 per over 3 years. And of course a full no-movement clause

Yeah. Since Pan-awful is most likely going to be relegated to the Press Box, and Baby Bourque is in the A, we need some Petr Tenkrat type hatred for the new guy
