Talbot had to have a root canal after the mishap yesterday. He's OK now. It was from a shot by Carle ("good thing it was him -- it was a muffin") but deflected by Wellwood ("I'll get him back"). - bmeltzer

will never understand this line of thinking. it's the player judged to be the most valuable to his team. but because tampa is mostly brutal besides stamkos, that somehow devalues the fact that he scored 25% of his team's goals? i think it makes it more impressive, imo. - OrangeBlack27

I missed this mishap.
lol @ muffin
Bill, are you going to do a round two preview on WHYY with Dave Heller?
Tell him hello for me if you do. Dave is hysterical, I don't know if that side of him comes out when's he's working.

Don't know. I will certainly try to if I'm invited (as long as schedule works out). Dave was very nice.
I didn't see it when it happened, either. I was watching other end of ice at the time. Lisa Hillary saw it happen and immediately alerted everyone that Talbot had taken a puck to the face and was skating off.
Not all but I watched the game yesterday and Rangers played exactly the same way they played all season. Able to generate forecheck pressure with 3 forwards hounding the D (D men rarely pinch unless they see breakdowns). A shotblocking machine. Winning most puck battles near the boards. And horrible on the pp. - PT21
im sure you watched them also pinned in their own zone for three minutes...they were lucky to escape that series.
The second half of the third was all Sens until the penalty at the very end.
They had some very good chances to tie it up
Krieder looks like a player

yeah i had my idiot brother in law(stupid smurfs fan, I HATE LIVING IN NY RIGHT NOW) yesterday tell me that. I told him lets see what he is after 82 games. Im not so sure i want to make up my mind after 4 games. 1 goal in 4 games does not prove anything....lol now 14 pts in six games thats something to marvel at!
Some folks, including Kerry Fraser (an official I have always appreciated and respected because he is generally good and fair), have been making noise about the Ward goal (and alleged Knuble interference on Thomas) that clinched the series for Washington. I've watched the goal several times now and I think that is a good non-call. Fraser (and others) think it is interference. Knuble does make contact with Thomas, but it is as he goes after the rebound on his initial shot. He doesn't just run Thomas over and the contact was pretty incidental. Thomas barely moves backwards as a result of Knuble's presence. It was a bump of the sort that happens all the time around the crease. Knuble just misses the rebound (it goes under the heel of his stick blade) and then Ward was in the right place at the right time to pop it home. It was a bang, bang sequence, but Knuble has every right to be there going after that rebound. If you're going to call goalie interference on that, then you are going to be calling interference on about 90% of the shots that happen around the crease. Sorry Kerry, you've got sweet hair and all but that is a good non-call.

That's the big question, and it also bring up team success. Without Stamkos, the Lightning still don't make the playoffs. Instead of 10th, they probably finish 12th or 13th. Still no playoffs.
Remove Quick from the Kings. My guess is, you do that, and Richie and Carts are playing with Nail Yakupov next fall. - Jsaquella
It's tough. I dont think anyone argues any of the selections as they were all very important to their own teams and Giroux should have absolutely considered. I think the topic stared veering towards whether or not Stamkos should be considered, which he should be and I don't think anyone is arguing that.
The regular season is such a large sample size that it's hard to narrow it down to just 3 candidates. Someone was bound to be left out and in this case its Giroux. Something tells me he'll be in that conversation for many years to come, anyway.

The five on three power play given to the rangers during game 6 was atrocious....I had my idiot brother in law swearing up and down that despite OTT paying off the refs they won....my response was: yeah they also payed them off to go down 5 on 3 in a crucial time in the game. I despise the rangers for their idiot fans....
I was working and the "snub" conversation has sort of passed, but I wanted to make the point that Giroux played 10% of his total minutes this season short handed. Stamkos played 2.5%, while Malkin played 0.2%.
Malkin will win anyways and is deserving, as everyone is saying, but I wish stats looking at a player's overall game were more considered in talking about "valuable players".
The devils a good team please that is a joke, they almost lost to a rag tag team of nobodys....The rangers who almost lost it until the refs gave them game 6 please...ill respect them when they beat us. Personally i think it flyers/caps ECF. Flyers in 5 caps in 7. - Philly1980
The Devils had more wins than the Flyers and one less point than the Flyers in regular season. The Devils are a very good team like the Flyers, as evident by them splitting the regular season series.
