The Florida hitkeeper seems like every minimal contact is a hit. If you look at the hits in the Devils home game compared to the Panthers home game, it seems like they are playing two different games in two different arenas. Devils don't get physical unless they have to, and generally, they prefer the cycle and wear you down that way rather than checking every chance you get. When you do the latter, you ask to open up the game into a wide-open end-to-end action. - _Zippy_
I expect that Philly will politely invite them into this style.

She's worked really hard on that now that she's on TV more on NHL Live. Still slips up from time to time, but much better than she used to be. - bodiva88

Good lord can Sunday get here already? - Lexington Flyer
Put the Devils won't. When you finish a check on a defenseman in the defensive zone, you take yourself out of the play. The Devils would much rather have that guy back still and come up the ice 4-on-5 rather than 4-on-4.
Some folks, including Kerry Fraser (an official I have always appreciated and respected because he is generally good and fair), have been making noise about the Ward goal (and alleged Knuble interference on Thomas) that clinched the series for Washington. I've watched the goal several times now and I think that is a good non-call. Fraser (and others) think it is interference. Knuble does make contact with Thomas, but it is as he goes after the rebound on his initial shot. He doesn't just run Thomas over and the contact was pretty incidental. Thomas barely moves backwards as a result of Knuble's presence. It was a bump of the sort that happens all the time around the crease. Knuble just misses the rebound (it goes under the heel of his stick blade) and then Ward was in the right place at the right time to pop it home. It was a bang, bang sequence, but Knuble has every right to be there going after that rebound. If you're going to call goalie interference on that, then you are going to be calling interference on about 90% of the shots that happen around the crease. Sorry Kerry, you've got sweet hair and all but that is a good non-call.
That should be a penalty or the goal should be disallowed IMO. I dont know how the game went from not even a skate in the paint to that. Plays like that should be penalties. And goalies who are outside the crease for any reason should be treated just like any other player IMO, whether their playing the puck behind the net or just way out challenging they should be fair game. This would eliminate lots of gray area. If the goalie's skates are in the crease....any bodily contact by a player or stick pushing (Neil) should be a penalty.
I think this series is tough to predict because the devils are so different then the pens. I think the Flyers have the edge in the series, but if they fall behind I doubt the devils give them the chances the pens did.
Between all of the injuries and minutes logged by the d I think this week off will really help the boys. There might be a little rust the first few shifts but the boys will get the jump quickly. I'm looking forward to them sending the devils to their summer vacation.

This wont be an easy series... I say 6 or 7 games, but I don't really understand why everyone's saying that a week off is going to kill us.. I think it actually helps as you say.

I think Sunday will be a grueling game that the flyers might even lose. Don't worry if the Flyers get down against them. Panthers came back from down 3-0 to win and 2-0 to lose game 7. Flyers will be just too much for them, as long as they pay attention in their own zone we should be ok. But the foot will have to be on the pedal as always.

The Devils lost a game they were leading by 3 goals to the Cats in round 1.
The Devils last night surrendered a 2 goal lead in the 3rd period.
This Devils team doesn't shut the door like years past.
I am not saying I want the Flyers to play from behind but I have seen enough of the Flyers this season to know that being down a goal or 2 wont mean the end of the game.
I know every player wants to win the cup, but I think this team really wants it and is willing to do whatever it takes. I just did't get that feeling with the team last year. I think this is where a player like mad Max brings so much to the team. Not to mention G, did you see him last game he is on a mission. This team didn't have that last year. I don't see this week off being anything but a blessing.
