Enroth to Chi for Dave Bolland. Maybe 1st round swaps. I want Bolland here, people in Chicago think they are shopping him. I would love our centers to be Hodgson/Ennis/Bolland. - sbroads24
I'd like Bolland too
Plays a good defensive game and is usually matched up against other teams' top center
That's something we need to think about
What center do we put out there against guys like Stamkos, etc
Right now, Roy is probably our best "defensive" center...
Yikes!

Hodgson could be a good shut down type player because he is such a smart player, doesnt make too many mistakes in his own zone.... but I would swap bolland for Roy in a heartbeat.

But I don't want Hodgson forced into that role yet...
He's still very young & putting too much on his plate too soon could have a very negative affect in his development
Roy for Bolland...
I'd do that too...
And I think Chicago would have to give that some serious thought
Stoll would also be a guy that can fill that role
And with his offensive #s way down this season, we can prob get him at a decent price
That would allow us to use Roy in a deal to trade up for Galchenyuk

Not a chance... his foot speed is too slow and he isn't strong enough on the puck. He is a smart player.. but right now.. his inexperience will still cause mental lapses.. and occasional poor decision making. So add that to his slow skating and lack of physical strength and there is no chance he will ever make a good shut down 2 way centerman.

Roberts seems to think that now that he can really focus on Cody's foot speed there should be significant improvement in that over the summer. He expects Cody's game to be at a whole new level next season. It'll be interesting to see, that's for sure.
EDIT: I also think Ruff is planning on using him more in the defensive areas. He already had him getting a decent amount of PK time. Think of Ennis as Briere and Hodgson as Drury. That's the way I see Ruff planning this out.

I should have clarified.... with hodgson offensive ability... you would never want him to be a "shut down" centerman. His foot speed will make gradual improvements... much like the sedins. It will take him time to be able to use his stick and hockey sense to be solid offensively without being a defensive liability. It will take him a few more years for that to happen.. he will continue to make mistakes.
What you want to see him improve on over the next year or 2 is... 1) better at faceoffs 2)quicker acceleration
Those are his 2 most important areas to focus on in the next few years. He should be a 50-60 point guy next year assuming he gets top 6 minutes.

Who says he couldn't fit into a Chris Drury type mold? Drury was facing the top offensive players on the opposition while he was here while also putting up 67 and 69 points in each of the years following the lockout. It can be done.

As much as I loved Drury he wasnt great defensively, he was a minus 11 in 05-06, and a plus 1 in 06-07, great clutch player and was our guy against opponents top lines but I dont think he was ever Selke worthy or anything. Pommer is a better defensive forward IMO

Pommer isn't out against the top line of the opposition every night. Don't get me wrong, Pommer is one of my favorites, but Drury was a better defensive forward IMO. He also played a position that has to pay more attention to detail defensively than Pommer does. It's much more important to play well defensively as a center than it is as a winger.
Besides, +/- is a lame stat. Pominville was -7 this year.

Pommer plays more PK than any forward on the team, including Goose when he was here. The reason he is not in a shut down role is because he is our leading scorer and put on a line with Vanek and Roy for a part of the year. When Hecht was healthy Pommer and Hecht were always out against top lines, Ruff does so much line juggling its ridiculous but in the last minute of the game Pommer is always out there.
I wish we had the luxury of having Pominville in a shut down role but apparently he's our only consistent goal scorer.

Goose had more PK time than Pommer. I can't prove it because he's listed under Nashville now, but I looked at it earlier in the season and Goose was the top forward for the PK. He was on the 1st PK unit, Pommer was on the 2nd. And this is by no means me saying I don't like Pommer or any of that. I was one of the people saying he was going to get the C last offseason. He's one of my favorite players on the team. I just think you're selling what Drury did while he was here short. Those situations you see Pommer put in right now, are the ones that Drury was in while he was here. Everyone didn't call him Captain Clutch for no reason. If we were down a goal late, he was the go to guy. If we were protecting a late lead, he was the go to guy.

No he did not. I think he meant that he won the WHL Championship and just didn't think about it. It's typical Garth, but it is what it is. - HonkFortheGoose

I don't care what he writes about to be honest. I barely read them most of the time. I did take the time to read today's, and thought it was interesting that he says the Sabres need to figure out what to do with Knapp. Last time I checked, Knapp signed his contract before Lieuwen and finished out the last few weeks of the AHL season with Rochester. Seems to me that Knapp will be spending his time there next year as well with Lieuwen. Leggio seems like the odd man out to me.
