Let's wait and see how good Schultz actually is.
- TheTaoOfSemenko

Ummm, what? If we wait, that means someone else signs him. Which might mean, we'll never get a chance to do it.

Give him the $900K entry level deal with a stack of bonuses and make him an Oiler. Very little risk involved.

how are you going to wait and see..... there are no try outs before he plays. His stats were great and has been compared to gardiner. its a college signing, so was Fedun and i believe Gardner was a NCAA player as well. I'm willing to take a chance on him. Send him to OKC if he's not ready. It's time to take a chance and improve the defense

I have a feeling you were talking about this blog http://www.oilogosphere.c...lk-chris-stewart-edition/, eh clouts. Seeing as to how you quickly shot it down in the comment section.

Although, it should be something the Oilers should attempt. I could see the Blues having interest in Hemsky. They've got a lot of big guys and not so many talented playmakers. Why not?

Now why does one poor season with Stewart not lower his value but one poor season of Hemsky lowers his to almost nill? Understand the injury scare, but he played much of the season last year. Is he really damaged goods if the Oilers are playing him in nothing games?

He would get the best chance of ice time here and he is from western canada. On his website he stated his favourite city to visit is edmonton, also the team is young so chances are he will make some good buds.... nuge/eberle ext. Chances are looking that he will want to sign with the oilers

Yes to Stewart from STL. STL fans wants a pick for his RFA status, but truly believes he will get another shot under Hitchcock next season being resigned in this offseason. Otherwise he may get the same $$$ as this season and probably traded as a add-on piece for a bigger splash player. I would suggest not to trade MPS, but at some point EDM got to pay to play. I would suggest starting MPS, Teemu, and Lander in OKC as call ups for the injuries of next season. Otherwise, MPS starts on second line with Gagner. Let Smyth and Petrell go. Try to sign gritty forward like Moen for 3rd line LW, not sure about Vande Velde for 4C, probably just starts in OKC too unless injuries in EDM. Trade Belanger and sign a guy like Konopka as 4C and Adam Hall as 4th line RW. Curious to see is there a buyout on new CBA. Maybe bye bye Horcoff and try to sign Gaustad or McClement as 3C.

Why does everyone want to buy out Horcoff? He's a great 3 C who gets ripped for his contract. There is no point in thinking of buying him out until the kids start having to be re-signed, so he'll be an Oiler next season.

maybe its hemsky + for stewart... Moen/Horcoff/Jones as the 3rd line. I'd like that 4th line but i have a fealing that Konopka will be resigned. Tootoo would look good on the RW. Can't Adam Hall play center as well?
- Killbot460

Adam Hall can, if no Konopka, try for Blair Betts or David Moss

the point is that offering him minimum won't cut it. they have to offer him what everyone else will, and it's still not a guarantee. I hope they try, as his NCAA numbers and potential look good. even so, he's not the answer. the Oilers still need a real NHL dman.

I don't. It's a bad draft year. Not much depth. Omark for a 4th makes sense for both parties involved. Considering the weak draft class, it could be a 3rd if two or more teams are interested.

If you're bored, vote for Nephew Tim's band Tanner Gordon and the Unfortunates to play at Sonic Boom in Edmonton.

I think it works out closer to three with all variables involved. whatever, a 1st year NHLer isn't going to solve everything. he could be Brunnstrom v2 for all we know.

Omark is worth nothing. Id be amazed if a team gave up a salary dump for him.

You're kinda grumpy tonight.

If the Oilers come away from the summer with Nail Yakupov and Justin Schultz, they're the winners. No team will improve more. So be happy.

thats the cap with bonus. Its time for Tambi to take a chance on defence.... if it doesn't work out waive him... his contract wouldn't effect the cap in the AHL since its and entry level deal. If you have the money there really isn't much risk in giving this kid a shot. Who know's he could be the next top pairing dman in ETown

I am not 100% sold on buying him out because of his leadership abilities and yes, as a 3rd line centre, he gets the job done. Workhorse and EDM don't have to adapt to another new face. Depends on the situation of the new CBA.

Problem is, no one is trading "proven help" of the top pairing variety. Teams need to develop top pairing D men. With respect to that, you can't find a much better prospect than Schultz.
