Despite Kuli's low scoring totals this year, I still believe that he was one of the better players on the team. He is by far the best defensve forward on this team. He may not quite get what he is asking for in terms of contract but, we'd be stupid to just let him walk or be traded for next to nothing. This team is dying for a little bit of veteran leadership and solid goaltending. I think Kuli stays! If he cant get it going next season, put him on the 3rd line in more of a checking role. Nothing wrong with a 3rd liner that can net ya 10-20 goals.

So how does a guy like burrow, or anyone for that matter actually make it out of there?

What league would you go to if you were in your early 20's and trying to play competative and make it to the Pros?

In Canada or the US I mean

AHL. One player out of several hundred is a great story, but not a sign of a general trend.

Well that I agree with, but what I meant was how do you get to the AHL if you are in your early 20's and want a chance?

the CHL, WHL, OHL, etc.. you are all too old for.

Is the BCHL, IHL, and ECHL all that is left?

BCHL is junior. ECHL, CHL (Really poop league) and the AHL are the available ones. You get signed to try-outs or contracts by any of those leagues.

Ok, well then I mean the ECHL wouldn't be a bad place to go, right?

I'm curently not playing in competative hockey, but want one last chance to make it. I'm trying out for the Toledo Walleye in August, and wanted to know if that is an acceptable way to get scouted IF I end up being good enough.

Basically, does the NHL look at the ECHL at all to draft players to their farm?

That's what scares me... Thomas, Scrivens, Reimer, etc... There are far more stories of goalies coming than players

There's scouts everywhere: I would think if you're playing head and shoulders above your peers in any league, you're going to get a look and maybe an invite to a camp. I'm not a scout, but that seems to me the most logical. If you're severely undersized, you may get looked over, but I don't know: there's been a lot of small, yet effective forwards in any generation of the NHL.

From what I've read, not much diff in goalie stats between ECHL and AHL...but I haven't researched this in depth so I might be wrong

Well, the quality of scoring chances, shooting accuracy, velocity, etc. has got to be lower in the ECHL than even the AHL, so I don't think comparing leagues is really that accurate. The quality of players, on average, are going to significantly lower in the ECHL: if not, they'd all be in the AHL.

Well, undersized is not a problem.. I guess I just better work at being the best on the team, but the way Toledo did last year, it may be easier than I thought,

Thanks for the responses though guys

And I promise in the incredibly unlikely situation I end up playing for the Leafs one day, I wil come back on hockeybuzz and talk to the real fans

I'd be right there with you except for the 5th overall.... I can see a deal for a couple prospects and a roster player + a lower 1st.
- Mr_Smokey

Maybe...

I can also see Howsen going for the 5th overall + Gardiner...

But even that's too steep.

he means kulemin drastically underperformed, while Schenn also did underperform, it wasn't to the degree that kulemin did
- Nastradamus

I fail to see how Schenn underperformed.

The kid is 22 years old, he plays defense in the NHL and is a stay-at-home style defenseman...show me one stay-at-home dman at the age of 22 that was shutting down the top players like everyone expects Schenn to.

Schenn didn't underacheive, the fans just over-expect.

I love how Leafs fans say they're ready for a rebuild but have zero patience to let Schenn develop. Dude won't be meeting fans expectations until he's 25 at the earliest...probably more like 27.

We'd have to unload 2 of our overpaid slugs just to absorb Nash's contract......no wait....

David Desharnais, Jack Combs.....to guys who were in your situation, went to the ECHL, and worked their way up....obviously Combs is in the AHL, but you get the idea.

Actually...we'll have to unload 3.

Assuming we'd be able to unload 1 of them to CBJ, as they'd be looking to add salary...but 3 of the following would need to go to make Nash (or even a Parise) happen:

Komi
Lombo
Army
Connolley

No one expects Schenn to shut down top pairings...just 3rd + 4th liners like he was supposed to this year...

Near the tail end of the season, a lot of Schenn's mistakes were directly resulting in goals...
