think we could get jvr for schenn? Im sure phily would love to have the brother together - Sherratt0204
Take the 1st out and that offer looks plausible. TSN is saying Van will have to give up something in order for someone to take Lu's contract. I've said before, Reimer + Armstrong.
No interest in JVR, especially for Schenn.
Looking at Philly, they have 13mil coming off the books, 13mil... and they have 3mil of cap space gping into next season.
There better not be a repeat from last night with the same participants or I will clean house here, i already seen it earlier, don't let it continue. - LeafMan

I would really like to see BB unload not just one, but two bloated deals if he does get Luongo.
well we need a goalie, we need size up front, hope burke can sign ufa Schultz then he can trade schenn/franson to bring in some size, and I would take a chance on penner, 1 year 2.5 mill see if he still has it

Don't need a crappy contract like Luongo has for 5th overall. Absolutely not.
Penner scored 7 goals this year. He's finished. Not worth 2.5 million.

I highly doubt the Leafs would finish out of the top 8 if they had Luongo in net for 65 games next year.
Plus you can always get those picks protected if top 1, 3, 5 etc - AngryWhiteMale
If the Leafs were to trade a first for Luongo, they can sure finish in the lotto if they have key injuries. Like, say, Luongo and Kessel both go down for long stretches. They would still be a team that needs to fire on all cylinders and catch some breaks. Like last year, they were doing very well for 60 games, but they also had their best players healthy.
If the Leafs were already a playoff team, I'd maybe, maybe consider trading a first. But at this point I wouldn't consider a first until they've been solidly away from lotto territory for at least a couple of seasons.

Trade size for size? I honestly don't believe Burke will trade Schenn, his price would be steep in his eyes. I do hope we can sign Schultz, Gunnar and Liles would be gone I would think if that happens. I don't mind taking a chance on Penner with Carlyle at the helm tho, especially at that price

He won't trade Schenn (package) unless he gets a #1 center or #1 goalie in return

he has a cup with this coach and he has found his game in the playoffs, if he came into camp in shape he might be the size we need.
so what do you all think we do to address the size issue and the goal tending issues???? - Sherratt0204
Penner is worthless. He's 30 years old, he's usually out of shape and lazy. He has absolutely zero value to the Leafs. I would rather the Leafs play Ashton for 82 games and give him a chance than waste time and money with Penner.
The Leafs don't need to trade 5th overall to get a goalie. They can get one for free via UFA. Or they can play Reimer and Scrivens.
The Leafs also don't need to trade guys like Schenn for SOFT players like JVR. Makes no sense.

You know, Schenn struggled defensively, as did the whole D corps, but I personally thought he didn't get enough credit sometimes for his outlet passes. He's not thought of as a puck mover, but I thought he was often quietly a solid part of the Leafs' rush attack offense. If the new coaching regime gets the D zone settled down a bit I think Schenn can still be very solid.

I pretty much figure Lu's on his way, its just for what. You might see Colborne come up (I mean Carlyle used Steckel in some wierd lines) Penner is a good option for cheap, but you have to unload to fir him in. I would trade some assets for Stewart. I don't thinkOtt or Brown are available tho.
I would be happy if this was our starting libe up. is it ideal? No, but contracts are gone, goaltender is addressed and there's size. Give Colborne a chance just like we did with Bozak and worst comes to worse Bozak goes back in.
Why in the hell would Luongo come to Toronto after getting torn to shreds in Vancouver? Of all the places in the NHL, why would he do that to himself?
Also, why would Burke acquire him after fighting against the exact type of contract he has?
Luongo is not coming to Toronto nor should anybody hope he does. At any cost. Even for free. - Unholy_Goalie
Burke said he has no issue obtaining a cobtract like that, he just won't offer one. They have history together with Nonis and he fits the bill for what Burke is lookibg to acquire in a goalie. He's perfect if you think about it however the contract is ugly ugly. however TO can afford it. Even TSN says Leafs would be on Lu's list.

I totally agree with these points. I also think that Burke will be even more wary of such a contract than he already is because it's Vancouver. It's very risky, and I don't think he wants to on the bad end of a deal with Gillis that blows up in his face.
I think some Toronto fans are talking like trading for Luongo is the only avenue on this planet available for a team seeking a good NHL goalie, and this makes no sense to me.

Well, big surprise, Burke is a hypocrite again. Acquiring a contract like that and handing one out are pretty much exactly the same thing. It's still a "cap circumventing" contract whether he acquires it or whether he hands one out. Exactly the same thing.
Nonis has nothing to do with this. Gillies and Burke pretty much hate each other. Pretty well known fact that there is friction there. Burke also said he wants a "four year" goalie. Luongo has a 10 year contract.
TSN has a job and that job is to create hype. If Luongo put the Leafs on his list, it's for one reason and that reason is to increase his odds of going where he actually wants to go.
If Luongo lists four teams he KNOWS Gillies and the Canucks can't send him to (for example Toronto, New York, Nashville and LA) and then the one team he DOES want to go to (Tampa Bay), his odds of going to where he wants to go are way higher. It's just a tactic being used by him and his agent.
Luongo would be an idiot to want to play in Toronto. And the Leafs would be pretty stupid to take him, even for free. Let somebody else make that mistake.

No way Colborne is ready for top line minutes. Im not even sure hes ready to play consistently in the nhl. Penner is terrible out of shape pancake man I dont want him for anything even if he cost nothing. All he would be doing is taking up a spot. You have Ashton playing over Frattin? This roster looks bad.
