Now if he ends up in Toronto my opinion probably changes.

I know he was up in Rockford for the last couple of games of the season. I don't know if he saw any acton though.

I wonder if they do sign Simpson or not? I would think the Hawks wouldn't just want to let him walk away. I guess the question is do they buy out Richards? Do they re-sign Hutton? What about Salak? is he staying or going? Then there's Johan Mattsson. What about him?

They have only so many slots for guys under the 50 contract limit.

I'd think Richards and Salak are the closest to the block...as neither (at least Richards at this point) appears to be NHL quality down the road. Not sure who's better between Carruth and Simpson, though Simpson originally came with more accolades. Have you seen much of either, EK?

I saw Simpson dress for a game in Rockford, but he never made it off the bench. I haven't really seen either play.

I think they'll end up buying Richards out. I don't know if that will count against the cap or not? If it does, Capgeek reports that the buyout was something short of $90,000 against the cap, so that wouldn't make much difference at all.

If the Hawks buy out Salak, that would be $112,500 against the cap.

I guess the team could get away with buying out both, if it comes down to it.

Wouldn't surprise me one iota, if the Hawks say goodbye to a couple of the older guys. Aren't Richards, Hutton and Salak all 25 or so? Wonder what Phil and Rick think about the OHL tender, Mattsson.

I've kissed this guys keister too much today, but I'll do it again. He's right. The Wings have shown the ability to re-tool better than anyone over the last 20 years. How many other franchises have been as successful/consistent? I agree that the Hawks core has a higher ceiling for a number of factors (age, ability, etc). The Hawks are in better position to be more successful, but whether they are or not remains to be seen.

All this hype, speculation and hysteria where Suter is going to end up is interesting. Now... I've read that Detroit News article, and I don't buy into it, nor do most of the serious Wing's fans. I don't see enough facts here to support the statements at this point in time. I think it's a lot of wishful thinking until I see otherwise. I completely disagree with JJ's assertion that "every Wings homer" is buying into this and spreading this rumor. That is complete nonsense.

Also... to say that the Wings have a "massive rebuild" coming as JJ stated is not likely either and not how Ken Holland and the Red Wing's front office / organization operates. The Wings will continue to retool and continue to scout, draft and groom their draft picks. They're the best in the business at it and that is what's made them arguably the most successful NHL franchise for the last 15-20 years. The Wings do have a bunch of good prospects in their system right now. The current bunch is the best they've had since the early 90's (I'm not counting Brunnstrom). Hopefully some of them will be NHL caliber like some of Detroit's former late round picks.

The Wing's core is getting older... no doubt about it. But I do have some faith Ken Holland will bring in some talent through free agency and/or trade.

Really? In 3 years, Lidstrom will be gone, Datsyuk will be 37, Zetterberg and Franzen will be 35, Kronwall will be 34.

ALL of them have had as bad or worse injuries than Hossa has, who is the only Hawk core guy who will be over 35 then.

Sorry, I'm not that sold on Gustav Nyquist, Fabian Brunnstrom and Brendan Smith (albeit potentially good players) as the building blocks of a dynasty.

So yeah, I'm sure.

Seriously JJ? I hope you are kidding or you know nothing about the Wings prospects. Jurco, Jarnkrok, Pulkkinen, Tatar, Sproul, Ouellet, Sheahan, Tvrdon, Jensen, Mrazek ect... This is the deepest the Wings prospect pool has been since the early 90's. No i don't think they will all make it but there is a lot of potential there. Brunnstrom was just a one year signing to give him a shot, not someone for the future.

As for the person that compared Jurco to Hudler, well they both are skilled but Hudler is small and slow while Jurco is bigger and faster already. Most people don't compare Jurco to Hudler, they compare him more to Hossa (yes he has a lot of work to do before he is in that class of player and might never get there).
