Maybe, if it went up a lot. I kind of think two $3-4 million guys would be money better spent, and if the cap goes up significantly then I think I'd rather add 3 solid vets than one overpriced D-man. For close to the same money, I'd rather have Matt Carle AND Bryan Allen.
Seabs/Keith
Carle/Allen
Hammer/Leddy - Ogilthorpe2
I guess it depends on if the front office actually goes after Suter or not. Really, I think I'd prefer Carle over Suter. At least Carle might cost $2 million less against the cap, after it's all said and done. I figure Carle would sign for something between the $4 to $5 million mark.
As for adding another defenseman at the $3 to $4 million mark, I guess the Hawks would have to figure out a way to trade Montador first. If they can't do that, I guess you might as well assume that he'll be here.
What about using that other $3-$4 million on a wing like Jagr? I wouldn't mind seeing him with the Hawks for a season at that price. |

Totally agree. Those two would work for me or swap Carle's name for Wideman. I also agree with some others about Suter's contract putting us in a situation where too much money is being committed to too few players. - HawkintheD
Not sure about Wideman but Allen would be my first choice, then add either carle, Jurcina or schenn and I think that's a solid 2nd pair. Smid would be a great add, but I can't see him available

Jäger is done and adds nothin to what the hawks need, unless your looking for another soft top 6 forward?
David jones is a better bet, imo |

Will the hawks need one more 5/6 d for depth since there losing OD and lepisto - southernhawk
They'll need at least one, maybe two more guys to round out the roster as the 7th (and possibly 8th) defensemen. You're talking about players with salaries less than a million dollars, probably closer to the $750,000 mark.
Also, I believe that the Hawks will need one defenseman in Rockford with NHL experience on a two-way contract. Beyond Dylan Olsen, the blueline corps in Rockford seem a bit thin. With the problems and injuries over the season, it wouldn't hurt to have a little extra insurance there. |

What about Sharp and Crawford for Lucic and Thomas. Sharp could step in if Horton is not 100%. Crawford will replace Thomas' spot. Have money to sign Rask. - powerenforcer
i would look at that, but how good will thomas be........just keep thinking columbus........ok! |

Jagr had 54 points in 73 games this season. From what I heard, he looked like he was out of gas in the playoffs, but that doesn't support the arguement that he's washed up, or "done."
At best, he provides a stop-gap as a top 6 wing for a season. Someone the Hawks don't have to make a long term commitment to. At worst, he probably puts up close to the same numbers as he did this season, and is out of gas again in the playoffs.
I do agree on David Jones. Let's see if he's available come July 1st. If he is, there's a guy I like. |

They're crying about that in Esplen's thread. They're really going to cry if Schnieder gets traded, and they're still stuck with Luongo and Ballard! |

He doesn't fit what the hawks need, at all!
I watched him in every playoff game and he is done. We don't need more guys who can't deliver in playoffs , especially in top 6.
Jones would be more than worth the bet |

JJ knows something. If he doesn't, he's sure got an angle on the Suter thing, enough to get me to believe that it's a likely possibility that it could happen.
I guess we'll see what transpires over the next month. In order to get Suter, somebody has to go. Bolland? Hjalmarsson? Frolk? All of the above?
With the Luongo and Nash trade talk, and some of the other teams at the cap ceiling, there could possibly be some interesting trade activity around the draft. |

I can agree with you on Jones.
As for Jagr, he had a good season. It's the playoffs this season where he disappeared. He's spent the last three seasons in the KHL playing a shorter schedule. Maybe after a good full season back in the NHL, he might come into next season a bit better conditioned?
I wouldn't just judge his playoff preformance as to Jagr being completley shot. There's still some more left in the tank. |

Was thinking get bigger with Allen and get some pp help from Wideman. With you on Smid; wish we could have done something to pry him away last year but since EDM resigned him I don't think he's going anywhere either. |

What do you guys think of the rumor my jets fan buddy heard last week. Kane and Stalberg for Dustin B., Ladd. And chi 2nd. Also I highly doubt Suter signs with hawks but right now you guys and 29 other teams have a chance. I say Gagner is a hawk at the draft. - Bieksa#3

He had a decent season, not good.
He also played with much tougher players than the hawks had this year.
The hawks need toughness on the top 6, not another soft player. Jägr is about as soft as they come. I would take Penner before jagr and Im not suggesting Penner either. |

After the season Garrison had, I'm not sure if he's the "real deal" either. Just how inflated are his stats while paring up with Campbell?
I'd hate for the Hawks to shell out $3-$4 million to find out he's a dud. |
