I don't care if it was 15 years ago or 15 minutes ago. I will NEVER cheer for that franchise. I hate all the Atlantic Division franchises for what they've done to the Flyers over the years. And I hate the Devils the most.
Isn't Pawed Lemieux cheering for the wrong team then? - rockychocbill
That was kind of the point. I'd have though the brighter uniforms would have caught his eye. But there's no accounting for him. |

Im putting aside any bad blood with fric & frac, dry island..and.the trade speculation. All im thinking about is the legend #27 ron hextall getting his name on the cup. That right there makes me pretty damn happy. |

I wonder if there are other players who won the Conn one year when they did not win the cup and later ended up getting their name on the cup?
EDIT: Leach won it in a losing cause after he won the cup. |

Let me preface this by saying that I like the trades of Richards/Carter and I think they are great trades for the future as I love the players we got in return.
However, while watching the game last night I couldn't help but think... would Flyers be in the cup if they only traded Carter, which would have still allowed them to sign Bryz.
Love him or hate him, Richards is an absolute force in the playoffs. Brayden Schenn had a pretty good playoffs but Simmonds was mediocre at best during the playoffs.
So I float the question which will drum up much debate I am sure... would the Flyers have been better off THIS SEASON if they had kept Richards and only traded Carter?
One thing is for sure, the Kings would not be playing in the SCF without trading for Richards, which resulted in them trading for Carter as well. - Flyers2821
Would they have been better this Season? Absolutely in my mind. Good enough to win the Cup? Who knows. The Goalie would have had to have been much better. When you compare him to Quick.

I don't buy that keeping Richards gets the Flyers to the SCF. The three biggest reasons the Kings are where they are are Jon Quick, Dustin Brown and Anze Kopitar. Those 3 had zero to do with the Flyers and the trades.
Richards and Carter have helped, but they haven't been driving the bus. - Jsaquella
For some reason a lot of Flyers fans want to minimize Richards and Carter's contributions to LA run. They have been big factors in it. Adding those two players, especially Carter late changed the dynamic of that team.

I'm not minimizing a thing. Richards filled a valuable role this year, as did Carter when he came over from Columbus. That said, neither guy played as large a role in LA that they did for the Flyers, not even close.
I listed the players I feel that have been more valuable in the Kings' run than both Carter and Richards have been. Quick is probably the Conn Smythe winner. Brown has scored big goals and provided leadership and physical play. Kopitar has shown signs of becoming a superstar. Doughty has been a beast. Mitchell and Scuderi are playing 27 minutes a night and are defensive anchors. |

And Carter and Richards are playing top minutes in all situations. Richards is 2nd and Carter 5th among Kings Forwards in total ice time. Richards has added grit and leadership. Carter has added a dangerous offensive threat with solid 2 way ability. And both are solid defensive forwards that fit in well with the Kings style of play. And the Flyers losing that two way ability showed up in the Flyers defensive issues this past Season. It's true that the Kings aren't built around Richards and Carter. But that doesn't make them any less valuable to the Kings and their playoff run. Adding those two players has been extremely important to the Kings. It has given them a legitimate 2nd line, and made them a much tougher team to play against. And it has also allowed them to place players in spots where they are more effective in roles they are better suited for. And that has made them much better through the whole lineup, and changed the entire team's dynamic. It takes a total team to win the Cup. And Richards and Carter are two very, very important players to that team. And what they're accomplishing this Season. And they aren't getting the credit they deserve from a lot of people. |

All true, and still they haven't been as vital to the Kings' success as Quick, Brown, Kopitar & Doughty, and possibly Mitchell and Scuderi in the playoffs, IMO.
Not going to beat a dead horse here. I like both Richards and Carter. I know they're important and I have never said they were not. But they're not the guys who have been the focal point for the Kings. |

There a list of players that you can say the Kings wouldn't win the Cup without them. And Richards and Carter are on it in my opinion. They were the key acquisitions by Lombardi that put that team over the top.
