This is the year that he needs to make improvements in the standings.

To do that they need another, an additional, Top-4 D.
Plus, another Corey Powerpotterplay for depth.
Re-sign Smyth, or a comparable minute muncher.
Stop over 91% of shots against every week, or almost every week. So no more Khabi.

+1

This was the reason why I think that Renney should have been given an extension also. 2 years. In the first 2 years they gathered the talent and made definite improvements, let the coaching staff ride it a little longer.

There is no cover for Tambi/Lowe now. If this team regresses they take the brunt of it.

Thats just it. Didnt he just get extended!!?

Yeah that must be it. I just didnt get it. Seeing as im such a glass is half full type fan already!!??

12th in the west was my hope, and attainable with a few of the garbage teams like anaheim and minnesota that finished ahead of us.

Anyway, top ten in the west this year or he should be axed.
And That finish wont happen with this team unless he makes some power moves.
Even with furthur steps taken by the kids.
We'll see...

So you expected a 19-26 point increase from last year? Because that's what going from 15th to 12th would've meant based on the standing the past 4 years.

10th which isn't too far fetched could still be as much as a 16 point increase.

Thing is Belanger was not signed to come in and be 4C. He fell to that because even Horc out produced him and Nuge+ Gags are definitely more talented. So while yes there may be some teams that have a 4C that is paid less it is not like he is outrageously paid.

Sutton is in the same boat in a way. May he be over paid? Maybe. But not like the poster said, over paid by 1 mil.

Edm is still getting over the stigma of being a poor place to play. they will need to pay more to get people there. They are showing their willingness to pass out the dough and if I remember right Sutton also wanted to stay even though the Oil had people apparently willing to trade for him at TDL. Plus from my understanding he is a good teammate.

this team is gathering a bunch of guys that are making the room a better place. Schultz was loved by his mates in Minny. Whitney, Ebs, Hall and Gags are all good friends. Sutton as i said is supposed to be a good guy in the room. To keep a good atmophere in the room will cost some money right now and will pay dividends later.

I don't really have a problem with Belangers $'s... he's maybe 200k over paid. It was the term where Tambillini was bent over.

Sutton however is deffinitly way overpaid.

They are both workable given their contracts, but there are a lot of better options out there. By no means did Sutton do us a favour when he re-signed. He should've at a lessor base salary and more bonus.

Ya, it's not a big issue... but he's deffinitly overpaid compared to his peer group.

Just find it funny that people defend Sutton, but don't want Smyth to get a couple 100k overpaid.

And Smyth is the guywho spent the year at the sharp end of the stick.

But i agree, term is important in Smyth's next contract.
What he gets paid this coming season in a one-year deal not so much

I'd put it to him this way: he gets a one-year deal worth whatever (within reason) he wants, but every subsequent year he wants to come back it's for peanuts.

Why not sign him to a one-year contract at 3+ million, and then immediately sign him to a one-year extension at 1 million? <---- I actually don't know if this is allowed in the CBA.

Smyth wants 1mil more and 3 years. The guy is a little female dog. Cries to come here, but only wants his money.

Don't you read ON anymore or anyone? They countered with a 2 year deal at 1mil more than what the Oilers offered. Doesn't sound like the Oilers original offer is available anymore either.

Yeah, but grocery prices have increased a fair amount. The guy has to feed his kids you know! It's not like his career earnings of $52,232,013 has made it possible for him to take a hometown discount.

In all seriousness though, $myth is the definition of greed. The quicker we can get rid of him the better. He's a heartless (frank)-face.

That does not bother me... After this year there likely would not be much room for Smyth anyway... and if he indeed was being a problem in the locker room buh bye... If it was a 3-3.5mill for 1 year deal then sign him otherwise he can go retire a flame...

Are you serious? The man has heart- he is just (frank)ing greedy about it... IMO - we should have fuct him over by trading for a 1st rounder at the TDL if we knew he was going to be greedy about things now...

SO you get what i am saying- he has heart but is a greedy (frank) face

Where did this start?

Probably Stauffer, he never liked Smyth.

I'm thinking 3.3ish as I don't think we offered dead on 2mil, but for arguement sakes we can go 3mil.

Stauffer, Brownlee when asked made it sound true.

I don't think he's a problem, his deal is he isn't the Captain Canada that everyone thinks he is.
