It's high, but that's how negotiations work. they now work their way down from each of the offers.

He was offered a Bertuzzi like deal, but wouldn't accept it. He isn't worth more than what Bertuzzi got. Then you get a guy like Hejduk who signed for 2 million... (frank) I hate $myth.

I think he's disgusting. I think he gave many Oiler fans a false belief that he actually cares about the team.
- laughs2907

The game is a business, he's got a very specialized skill set with the ability to do what only a few hundred people in the world can do.

Caring about the team doesn't mean you have to take whatever is offerd, you negotiate for what you feel you are worth.... typically starting high in the negotiation.

You're doing your MBA right? You'll see this first hand when you get into the work force and work with/for proffesionals that know their value.

What exactly is that? Because Shawn Horcoff was standing in front of the net quite well this year and I don't even like Horcoff.

Smyth is no minute muncher...

2011-12 Forwards
The only forward to play all 82 games.
5th most ES minutes per game
4th most PK minutes per game
5th most PP minutes per game
2nd most Total minutes per game

Most total minutes played 1525
Horcoff second 1520 [Horcoff missed one game]
Eberle 3rd at 1322

Of the regulars, only Hemsky & Horcoff had tougher match-ups

It's not a normal business situation... We're not talking about pencil pushers who are negotiating over 60k-70k a year... $myth has made over 50 million dollars in his career and cried his head off to return "home." One would assume that an emotional outburst (such as the one $myth had) would result in him accepting fair market value at the very least. $myth was offered fair market value, but wanted no part of it. He's in an industry driven by emotions, and I feel that the guy is toying with the Oiler fans who still actually look up to him. He's a disgrace.

He's not really that good though. Started off on fire 30 in 37 and cooled right down. He can't put those numbers up consistently over 82 games. Streaky player, where the hot is done at x-mas.

That's the problem with Smyth. 5 goals post x-mas doesn't help the team that much.

(frank)ing racist.

Seriously though, I did find myself getting winded several times while typing out that last post.

Winning teams have depth, period. Smyth can not only still play, but it continues to give us options throughout our top 3 lines at least for the next year or two.

Him not being signed by now is a bit ridiculous if you ask me.

All the more reason he should be pushing for every penny he can get. He's potentially leaving 100's of k on the table vs the 10's of k of the average guy.

Katz is a billionaire, look at the deal he's trying to get with the city/province. Just because you are already rich doesn't mean you don't push for more.

Lets wait until he actually signs before we get our panties in a knot, this is a negotiation.

I don't know why you use our? How many teams do you pull for 24?

So you are on board with just giving Smyth whatever he wants?

I'd love to have him back as I think we might need him to play #1 LW for the first 10 games, but I'm not just opening up the cheque book for him.

Got lots of bounces to start and then didn't get any to end the year.... that's how the game works.

Sure he's going to get a little worse all the time at his age, but he's still without question one of the 9 best forwards on our team.

Nah, he doesn't have the stamina to be a top 6.

I do agree on the last part though.

I still don't know why he doesn't take 1 year 2mil and then 2mil in bonuses. I see Gregor finally suggested this as an option now. (frank) it give him 8mil in bonuses I really don't care.

I just don't understand how the guy could be so emotional about coming back, and when he does come back, request more than comparable players throughout the league are receiving. It stinks of dog sh1t to me.

Anyway, for the average worker, 10k will mean A LOT more to them then 100k does to $myth. $myth has more than enough money to live comfortably... The average worker usually requests higher wages so they can afford the cost of living.

Sure, but but he is not top line...not even 2nd line material anymore...he is getting closer to 4th line/special teams material than top 6.

Laughs may take the the hateraide a little thick but he makes a point...Smyth made a big deal to get out of LA to come home to finish his career...if he really wants to squabble over less than halfmil after the team paid him an exaggerated salary for 1 year to have him on the team then he can pack up for a year and play in Calgary.

Tambellini is the GM, is he not? How harder could the negotions get?

Either give Smyth his money, or tell him your pursuing other options. It just should have been resolved by now.

Management has been in-excusably quiet since the season ended. This team needs to make the playoffs next season, or at least come close. Progression is a must, period. They have been way to lackadaisical thus far in my opinion.

But Tambo got his extension! So woop-di-(frank)ing doo for us. Thank god.

after rescuing him from LA at his request and paying him his 6+mil last year for non-20goal, 46 point season I think he can stand to take the hit.
