The salary cap next year is $70,300,000? - laughs2907
The LAK have those salaries already and the cap is expected to be shrinking after the new CBA comes in. Edm will still have to deal with new contracts and have a chance to work around a lower cap.
As I said, when the team gets there it is time to see of there is a problem, until then there is none. I am sure team management has this in m ind already.
But what im asking is, whats the difference? Its safe to say an accident is not a good thing right? and when your playing hockey, and if accident happens, your going to get hurt. accident prone, injury prone. - Deadmau55
Well sure you do have a point if we're getting deep into the merits of psychology here.
I know I've definitely wondered about the Oilers room over the past few years in that respect. How can you not when the man games lost have been just insane.
Im sure. I wouldn't want to trade kopi for anything right now. Is that stupid beyond reason? Yes. But being a fan will blind you at times. I think its fair to say, oiler fans will, and do feel the same about your core. Some players in that core will be traded, and oiler fans wont be happy about it, no matter who comes back. - Deadmau55
Trading players who you drafted 1st overall is fun. Ask Quebec/Colorado.

We need the occult. - Salvo
Just part of a growing team man, they will get bigger and stronger.
He scored 20 once, 3 years ago. He may have 20 goal potential but I would act like he is a consistent 20 goal scorer. He is closer to a 15 g/yr guy than a 20. - OilHorse
Sorry, you are absolutely right. 1 time 20 goal scorer, usually good for 15 goals per season. Doesnt change what I think his trade value is though.

I couldn't give a sh1t if we can't afford all of these guys to be honest. Any player who warrants big money, will attract offers. Assets FTW!

Who's next? Lou? Or do you just stay the course and hope for the best? - Deadmau55
I wouldn't trade for Luongo, especially if Burke really believes that Reimer can still be the #1 if he continues progressing as he was before his injury. Vokoun would have been good to fill that gap until that happens, but we have to go another direction now. If it's Lu, it's Lu and I'll still cheer for my Buds and hope they do well. But hopefully, they can find some cheaper veteran help for the meantime.

With the goalie market like it is, you take a superstar ten times out of ten, even if his contract isn't great. He wasn't terrible in the playoffs, and he played in front of a sub par D (Sorry canucks fans) And if your defense, and your system, is as good as other leafs fans say it is, well that gets the ball rollin.

I dont know why Leaf's fans are acting like getting Luongo is like catching the plague, despite his contract, he will make the Leaf's a better team, give them a chance to win every night and make the playoffs instead of the team melting down in the second half.
I can hear it now. October and November are brutal months for Luongo, he is always bad the 1st two months of the season and Toronto will want to murder him and all involved in trading for him. Come December when he heats up, T.O. fans are going to be acting like Luongo is the best thing since sliced bread.
Come April, they will be calling Luongo Jesus with his long flowing hair and playoff beard leading them into the first playoffs in ages.
13th overall for Gagner.
13th, Daley and a 4th for Gagner and Hemsky.
The only thing that will get you guys Souray is the 1st overall and Eberle - NoobasaurusRex

you are always entitled to your opinion... unfortunately many will not see the same value...as an Oiler fan I understand, look at Hemmer and Gags...

I wouldn't do either of those deals. With the 13th pick we're not gonna get anyone as good as gags and Hemsky is worth more than Daley and a 4th. If you want Hemsky and a 3rd for the 13th overall you've got yourself a deal.

For us to take Souray you guys would have to give up your next 5 years of first rounders, oh and we might throw in Horcoff. The first overall and Eberle isn't going to happen, not even in your dreams.
these blogs are getting better and more realistic, but one thing that strikes me odd is the continued over-valuation of gagner and hemsky. gagner isn't worth a first round pick ever, and hemsky might be worth a first for a contending team at the deadline, but certainly not at the draft. teams would have to see production and durability to trade that kind of asset. anywho, good luck with yak... the oilers are going to be a fun team to watch! only wish the pens played them more times a year

It will cost more than Komisarek and a 5th or 6th rounder to get Luongo. I stand by the notions the Canucks wont give Luongo away for free.
As mentioned in previous discussion, it would maybe look like:
Fransen or Gardiner + Armstrong or Komisarek + a 2nd rounder.
For
Luongo
Gillis may not have alot of GM's interested in Luongo, but there will be more than just the Leaf's trying to get him draft day. If the Leaf's get him, it will cost a roster player of value and a bad contract back. - CanuckforLife
ummmmmm theirs no way in hell gardiner is getting traded
