3. The Edmonton Oilers send the 1st overall draft pick in 2012 to the New York Islanders for their 1st overall pick in 2012 (4th overall), Ryan Strome (C) and Calvin de Haan (D).
i'm a mind reader, i can predict EXACTLY what travis will say to this trade offer.....
" are you (frank)ING KIDDING , send me some of whatever it is you're smoking"
honestly, that's EXACTLY what he's gonna say. hell, the islanders should just throw in tavares to officially make it the worst trade in NHL history. |

Hmmm
To Edm: Larsson
To NJ: Peckham, Omark and a 3rd
easy trade right, you are getting the quantity advantage there - ALEDDO
Omark is a negative...he cancels out the minimal that is Pecks...the 3rd is not officially a player yet.
So you trade Sutton and Peckham with the 3rd round pick for Larsson.

4 year, 16 million dollar deal for David Jones? Is Sherman on drugs? - laughs2907
I hope this doesn't screw up signing Gagner, I was hoping he would would sign for less than that crap contract. |

Hmmm, fair enough, though i actually like sutton. Maybe belanger instead. We should have our own trade wars, this is already turning out better than cloutiers |

I knew you would, but I don't wanna give away our best face off man...
And as I said last night Clouts should have stayed away from the #1 pick in the trade wars...he should be looking to try and get another top 10 draft pick.
If Yost is paying attention he should be countering with that kind of proposal, no one wants to talk about trading for the #1 anymore. |

Oilers 1st 2012,Khabibulin to Boston
Bruins 1st , Hamilton and Thomas to Edmonton
Not sure what else B's add for us to get rid of their Thomas problem? We have the cap room to deal with it for 2 years. Maybe add Gagner for Krecji and another D prospect?? |

That is one of the better proposals I've seen involving #1 overall.
Opinions - do you think I'm misjudging Thomas when I think he is just flaky and selfish enough that his issue could be "I don't want to lie in the bed I made in Boston" not "I want a year off"? If that's the case, he immediately makes us a playoff team.
But UGH... what an assclown. 38 year olds who take "a year off" very, very rarely make any kind of impact at all. And how dishonest and unprofessional to totally dishonour a contract (and one worth five freaking mil!). Not to mention the disloyalty involved in leaving his teammates of the past few years to deal with his mess, yet again.
lol I think I just talked myself out of it. Screw Thomas! Fantastic goaltender, total assclown! |

Did you mean their 1st in 2013? I hope so.
Khabi only has a year left and a lower cap hit I think. Our first in 2013 will almost certainly be betterthan Boston's. Hamilton looks pretty good but still doesn't give us immediate help on d. I don't do it.
Gagner and Krejci? Meh. Still leaves us too small at #2C. |

If the B's weren't painfully thin in defensive prospects that could make some sense. Seems quite fair. |

maybe its just me, but that seems like a deal that Oilers fans might form a torch carrying mob over. we get a goalie that wont even be playing, a much lower draft pick and a pretty good defensive prospect in exchange for a goalie that can actually play and an elite level forward prospect.
am i taking crazy pills or did i read something wrong? it doesnt strike me as fair at all. |

Does Thomas' cap hit count towards Boston if he takes next year off? If it does then why not trade Khabibulin straight up for Thomas? If Thomas isn't going to play next year then Boston loses nothing and gets Khabibulin as a back up (albeit a poopty one, and I'm not familiar with Boston's depth behind Rask).
And even if Thomas wouldn't play in Edmonton next year then at least Khabby would be gone. |

I kind of viewed it as 1st overall for Hamilton and B's 1st, with a bunch of other crap that neither team really needs.
Khabibulin is redundant with Rask & Khudobin already in Boston. I'm assuming the guy suggesting it is assuming the Oil have enough cap space to easily absorb Timmy's contract without handicapping them this year.
"Pretty good" vs "Elite" is kind of a stretch considering Hamilton is largely considered one of the top if not the top defensive prospect not in the NHL. Both are prospects so clearly if Edmonton is looking for immediate help on the blue line Hamilton's not the piece you want. |

that is kind of the prob. also Timmays cap hit is worse, and i have no delusions of moving him to a cap floor team. teams can look to other options that will actually play.
its not a horrible deal I guess but I just dont see it happening. Thomas is what kind of kills it for me. |

Yeah I think the cap floor trade is far fetched too. There's an obvious benefit if you know you're going to be under otherwise and you don't have to actually pay the guy, but I don't see too many teams fitting that bill. I also think there's a decent possibility that the league would kibosh it for having no actual sporting purpose.
I think he'll get moved if he agrees to play for a specific team and they can iron out a deal. Otherwise I think he just chills in Colorado for the year. |

Only trade I would make if I were going to trade the 1st overall pick. Would be to Montreal for subaan and the 3rd |

Dammit, I completely (frank)ed up the one I meant to say was reasonable, I fully agree that the Isles-Oilers deal is (frank)ing insane. I don't know why no. 3 was there, it's probably the worst of the bunch, only no. 6 is the only semi-sane one |
