It seems to me that Gagner may be a good asset, far better than his reputation. The larger question is why has his image suffered. Do you think the problem is more about Edmonton fans and media constantly promoting his being shipped out of town? If you keep putting an item on sale and there are no buyers the price will be reduced. Perhaps it is time to stop trying to push this sale for awhile and the value might actually increase. - spatso
Probably cuz anyone who has ever gone out to a bar in edmonton sees all of the guys on the oilers under the age of 25 out every night... Im not saying they should enjoy themselves cuz everyone in the league does... but when you see guys like hall gagner and smid at a bar wearing grey sweatpants and loaded out of their minds stumbling around it doesnt look great |

less homer, more realistic view
gagner- potential number 2, undersized, more likely a solid 3rd linermps- potential top six, but stock has fallen
peckham-looking like a bust, seems edm can;t wait to run him out of town
2nd rounder- is what it is
visno- aging top d man- overpriced at this point, but a very solid 3-4 guy on a team with legitimate condender depth.
6th overall- probably a good to great player. but... should pan out to a top 4 d or a top 6 forward
despite visno's limitations, ana could get a much better return than that - ChrisMS
Just STFU already.... |

whats wrong with what he said? he is slightly undersized... and yes he could get 70 like you say but since his totals have gone something like 49,41,42,42,47 (with an 8 point single game which yes he did do but you cant count on that happening every year) its more realistic that with better players he hits 55 points this year which is an average 2nd-good 3rd line center |

35 centers had 50 or more points last year.

so that would put him around an average 2nd line centre or a good 3rd line centre on a stacked team... is that not what i said? |

It's been proven time and time again that Gagner is an average (not great or spectacular) 2nd liner center. This bullpoop about being a 3rd line player is out to lunch on so many levels.
Stop with the 8 point game excuses.... I could see if it inflated his usual offense totals but it didn't. |

I was trying to be a little conservative by calling him average. I swear to god nobody watches Gagner play. |

Puts him in the top 40 point producing centers.
Seems little better than average 2nd line C

Oh ya, I'd say he's an average 2nd line center as of right now, myself.
Just saying that if you are 35th for scoring at your position you arent an average 2nd liner. |

You have zero proof that those player do that... trust me in a city like Edmonton the media would be all over it.
I could just as easily say the Kessel, Phaneuf and Grabovski like to frequent gay bath houses on a nightly basis and participate in all male gay orgies. |

k from what i can see the 2nd line centres that had more points
Seguin/Krecji/Bergeron (2 are 2nd line or lower)
Fillpula
Couture
Deharnais
Oreilly
Statsny
Legwand/Fischer (1 has to be lower)
Grabo
Stepan
Henrique
Hudler
KEsler
J. Staal
Lecavlier
all had more points that gagner at 2nd line or lower... seems pretty mid pack to me

While it's nice to see what the rest of the league thinks of your team's players every once and while, I tire of reading about how Sam Gagner has maxed out and isn't a top six forward. I for one vote that Sam Gagner and his status not be mentioned in any HB discussion thread until at least the mid-point of the next season of regular play (whether that be 2012-13 or 2013-14). This is getting ridiculous.
Sam Gagner is a top-6 forward no matter what his size. His size is only mentioned on this board because we the fans of the Oilers would rather have a larger center behind Nuge to give/take the beatings. Are Pavel Datsyuk, Joe Pavelski, Mike Richards, Matt Duchene, and Stephen Weiss too small for the top-six roles they fill? No. Being in the top-six of an NHL team has far more to do with skill and consistency than anything else. Gagner has one of those in spades and, at 22, is still developing the other.
If you'd like to continue this argument, please, for the sake of everyone else here, send it via e-mail or a private message.

The 2nd line center claim (even the average part) isn't the issue, it's the retarded claim that he's a 3rd liner. |
