now that i would do but not gardiner
- P-Nut

The skill level between 1 and 5 isn't as great as other years. There are no franchise altering players in this draft. There are just good star players. If there was a year to do a 3 step tradeup, it's this one.

OK, one for you Hab fans. Knowing the Leafs pick 5th, would you trade for that 5th pick in exchange for your 1st rounder next year? Think about it!

Absolutely, poop, i wanna (frank)ing trade down.
- Leafland

And why?

What are we going to get by moving down from 5th to, say, 7th?

And wouldn't it be the ultimate Leafs draft fail if we pass on a Forsberg and wind up with a guy that doesn't pan out to be anything other than a 2nd liner.

I think Kessel's trade is still fresh enough in BBs memory that he keeps it to spare his ego another wet towel in the arse

Not a fan of the Russian player?
- mfreedman

Not very much, im all for the single Russian that is 2nd threat kind of guy, but building the Leafs around Russians seems like an Ottawa or Montreal thing to do.

I'll be happy getting Galchenyuk, I just think that we would be better off with Murray on our D for the future. Just my opinion, which makes me a loser who love Connolly and Lombardi.
- yea-ok-buddy

Toronto seriously needs a superstar we've been dead since Sundin's been gone.

Yak would be a winger... Gal would be the big centre we needed.

Not understanding the question..

I think we simply need a physical two-way centre that would open up room for Kessel, that's why they say there is a need for a bigger guy.. If Kessel wasn't playing for us, then a centre wou plays all ends of the ice and puts up points would e sufficient regardless of his size imo.. Then again it's Burke, so we would probably get a big guy anyways

- mfreedman

I know that, the question is the common thing around here is "leafs need a big number one center" im asking big, in the sense of scoring, star player? or a guy who can hit, and score 25-30. Im asking what the need is. obviously both would be great, but I was just wondering what we preferred.

That sounds like Jordan Staal.
- yea-ok-buddy

Agreed, but I also needed to add the point that trading for one would defeat the purpose at the moment.

We need the centre to grow with the young core, not result in the young core being shipped out for them... Draft the centre

It would cost less to move up and draft a guy like Galchenyuk than to acquire a guy like Staal who could easily end up bolting to Carolina at the end of next year.

Our team is not competing for a cup in a years time, so we might as well be patient and draft the guy while we have a pick as high as we do now.

By trading down id mean grabbing TBs 9th and 19th, or Washingtons 11th and 15th. I just like more there. Being able to get Gaunce/Faksa plus first choice at one of the goalies, or even T. Wilson. Just my opinion though.

Luongo would make the leafs better, ya duh
you could dig up terry sawchuk, freeze his body in a block of ice and put that in net and it would make them better

- wingz4life

Giving up on reimer now seems stupid to me, he had one great season, one bad one where he missed mega time with a concussion. Stick with reimer if he pans out we get a good goalie for nothing, if he flops who cares we still don't have a great team that's overly competitive and could use another lotto pick!

Oh, sorry, misunderstood.

They want big in terms of size... Moreso that they want a guy who can pummel the offense and get into the dirty areas. Kessel doesnt do that so he needs someone to do it for him.

Like you said, it would be great if we got scoring too, as having a guy that could dish to Kessel while doing that would be ideal.

Other than for Yakupov none of the forwards in this year's draft are expected to make their NHL clubs next year. So, good chance that a team trading picks for next year could finish even lower in the standings.

ya obvs it would have to be franson plus others, the most he would get in return alone is a 2nd rounder at this point..

I find it amusing as to how people think moving up costs an arm and a leg..

Burke moved up 4 spots to 2nd overall to get Pronger and all he did was give up his 1st, 2nd, 3rd picks...

- peddy-93

move him at the deadline and you can almost guarantee a first

Depends on who's there at 5... if its Galchenyuk i think we should take him, we need top end talent. Faksa and Gaunce look to me like an excellent second and third line center respectively and we already look to have enough mid level prospects in the system. But certainly an option if the best we have at 5 is Dumba or Forsberg

Not sure anybody has suggested trading Reimer. If nothing else he's likely going to be a very good backup - has the perfect mindset for it.

It's more a question of who plays with him. Reimer's the only goalie in Leafs system currently under contract for next season.
